56 percent in new poll say Trump does not deserve reelection
More than half of registered voters say in a new poll that President Trump does not deserve to be reelected.

More than half of registered voters say in a new poll that President Trump does not deserve to be reelected.

Fifty-six percent of voters told Gallup that the president does not deserve a second term, compared to just 43 percent who said that he is worthy of another four years in the Oval Office. The findings come less than two weeks before the presidential election as Trump battles critics over his handling of the coronavirus pandemic and other issues.

The percentage of those who say that Trump deserves reelection has dropped 7 points since January, Gallup noted, and comes as the survey giant found that 55 percent of Americans say they disapprove of the president's overall job performance.

Just 43 percent of Americans said in a poll released Wednesday that they support the president's overall performance, with a 90-point gap between Republicans and Democrats, 94 percent to 4 percent, in that category.

Voters also showed displeasure with Congress at large in the new poll, with 68 percent telling pollsters that "most members of Congress" do not deserve to be reelected. At the same time, 60 percent said that their district's representative should return to Congress.

And Gallup found that satisfaction about the country's status in the world ticked up several points, from 14 percent to 19 percent, between September and October. It remains far lower than Gallup's historical average, 36 percent. The lowest it has ever been in a year in which an incumbent was reelected was 33 percent, when former President Obama won another four years in office.

Gallup contacted 1,035 U.S. adults between Sept. 30 and Oct. 15. Its results have a margin of error of 4 percentage points. Information about the percentage of U.S. voters in the poll was not immediately available. The Hill has reached out to Gallup for comment.

New York (CNN Business)

More than 700 economists, including seven Nobel Prize winners, are urgently warning against the reelection of President Donald Trump, citing what they describe as a "sustained assault" on democracy, a  fumbled response to the pandemic  and the spread of "dangerous misinformation."

"In just one term in office, Donald Trump has rendered the United States unrecognizable, and has faced no consequences for doing so," the   economists wrote in an open letter,   which is being updated until the   November 3 election.
The letter was signed by prominent economists from major institutions, including Nobel laureates Paul Milgrom (2020) and Oliver Hart (2016) and Alvin Roth (2012). George Akerlof, the Nobel winning husband of former Federal Reserve chief Janet Yellen, also signed the letter.

Yeah, Krugman predicted a global Pandemic in year four of Trumps presidency ......... NOT!

If it weren't for that we'd still be breaking economic records in a good way just like the first three years ....

Nope...A recession is defined as two consecutive quarters in negative range. That has not happened.

Factually, we were in a recession, but as of 9/24 we technically moved out of it

"The National Bureau of Economic Research has announced Monday the U.S. economy is officially in a recession."

"The U.S. recession was severe but also short and is now over, said Richmond Fed President Tom Barkin on Thursday."

"Even if the recession is over, Barkin said he didn’t think the economy would recover fully until 2021 or after."

"“I do think the economy is getting healthier but we’re not healthy,” he said."

How so? Was there a poll in 2016 that said 56% of Americans think Trump does not deserve reelection? The poll above is based on Americans experiencing four years of Trump, this isn't simply a poll showing Democrats ahead before an election.

How so?

Watching all the pollsters and media prognosticators pick Hillary more or less across the board.

Adamantly insisting Trump had no path to an electoral college victory, etc, etc  ..... so yeah, this is feeling very, very familiar.

Watching all the pollsters and media prognosticators pick Hillary more or less across the board.

They were pretty accurate when you realize that Hillary won by 3 million votes.

Pollsters were not, though they should have been, looking at the electoral college.

Oh horseshit.   Few including myself (because i had allowed myself to get brainwashed by all the anti Trump media coverage as well) gave him one chance in hell for any victory let alone an electoral victory.   Well ..... most everyone was wrong

So now they've spent the last four years rationalizing why, what they got wrong, was not really wrong.

Hilarious!

Watching all the pollsters and media prognosticators pick Hillary more or less across the board.

So you're equating it to Democrats simply being ahead in the polls before election day, got it.

I take it you also ignored this telling number:

"Satisfaction about the country's status in the world" is at "19 percent" and "remains far lower than Gallup's historical average, 36 percent. The lowest it has ever been in a year in which an incumbent was reelected was 33 percent, when former President Obama won another four years in office ."

This isn't 2016. Trump isn't running against Hillary. Trump isn't the "new outsider" who's going to come in and shake up Washington, he's the incumbent President who has disappointed the majority of the nation. Nothing about this election should be giving anyone deja vu as we've simply never had a more unpopular incumbent actual win reelection. The last incumbent with a lower favorability number of just 39% was Gerald Ford in 1976 who of course lost. Trump is currently at 42.7% favorability and no incumbent has ever won with less than 48% since 1948.

What really makes me wonder about the intelligence of SO MANY of the American people, their inability to think critically for themselves, their preference for following a "pied piper" to their destruction, is that the percentage is only 56%, and not MUCH higher.

If you assume two things, one that most people dont lie to pollsters, and two that voter turnout will be at least fairly close to equal between the two parties, this looks like game set match.

It also looks like what we tend to call a landside.  Even 53-47 would be a landslide by today's standards.
