I love this! interestingly, it informs me too. This is before the "Soul Train Line." How nice! I actually love those sedated kids. Was that song by Elvis? I could look it up, but I am being open and conversational.
Baby, baby come on sway me, drive me crazy Do the cha cha cha Somethin's missin' when we're twistin', let's start kissin' Do the cha cha cha.
And when you see the Wah-watusi you'd go a'ha ha ha The Hully Gully isn't nothin' When you compare it to the cha cha cha So oh baby come on sway me, drive me crazy
Do the cha cha cha, come on and sing it now (more la la la's) Mmmm let's start kissin', do the cha cha cha The Locomotion in the ocean and I go ha-ha-ha
The Mashed Potatoes ain't the greatest When you compare it to the cha cha cha So oh baby come-a come-a sway me, drive me crazy Do the cha cha cha--- and let me hear it again
1. This was filmed aboard the U.S. Navy Aircraft Carrier der Scherz upon General Douglas McArthur's triumphant return to the PHilippines during The Spanish American war.
2. For those unfamiliar with the Spanish language , the phrase "Bei Mir Best Du Schoen" can be roughly translated as:
Waiter I'll have the Chicken Tortillas with some Bratwurst on the side".
From film You Were Never Lovelier Columbia Picture (1942) Director: William A. Seiter Screenplay: Michael Fessier, Ernest Songs: by Jerome Kern and Johnny You Were Never Lovelier was Rita's third and last film released in 1942 and her second time as Fred Astaire's dancing partner.
Except for "The Shorty George" number, all their dances were rehearsed in the attic of a funeral parlor! They had to stop every time a funeral procession came through and couldn't start up again until all the mourners had left. But if those conditions disrupted rehearsals, it didn't show on-screen. The results were fabulous.
Rita later called this movie one of her favorites, but it was also memorable to her for another reason. During rehearsals of "The Shorty George", Rita experienced one of her "most embarrassing" moments when she fell down during the dance and knocked herself out cold! The film is set in what was one of Hollywood's favorite locales at the time, Buenos Aires, and also features Xavier Cugat and his Orchestra to add to the Latin flavor of this memorable musical.
Very catchy tune. After a while it seemed you couldn't tune in to any radio station (that played music) for more then 10 minutes without hearing it. (Eventually it became a much much).
If I had a dollar for every time I danced to this song whilst completely shizzled, I could afford to buy my brother's beautiful lakeside abode and have his foolish behind thrown out of it.
I think I should point out that I love this dance scene emphasizing the powerful dynamics being exchanged between male-female attraction, but I detest the homophobia "stylized" and woven into the fabric of this classic movie!
