President Trump announced on Twitter Tuesday night that Christopher Krebs, the head of the Department of Homeland Security's Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency, had been fired effective immediately.
Why it matters: Krebs, who is responsible for securing voting technology, has drawn bipartisan praise for his handling of the election and debunking of misinformation. Reuters recently reported he expected to be fired after he pushed back against false claims that Democrats "rigged" the election, a claim that Trump has heavily promoted.
Our thought bubble: Krebs is a universally respected figure even in the notoriously fractious world of cybersecurity and information security, notes Zach Dorfman, author of Axios' Codebook newsletter.
The big picture: Krebs' firing signals that Trump continues to feel unshackled in the post-election period to punish officials he views as disloyal, even if it's at the expense of his own administration's morale and ability to function.
- Christopher Miller, director of the National Counterterrorism Center, replaced Mark Esper as active secretary of Defense, after Trump clashed with Esper over a number of issues since the summer..
- Trump named Michael Ellis, a former aide to House Intelligence Committee ranking member Devin Nunes, who most recently served as the NSC official in charge of intelligence programs, general counsel of the National Security Agency.
- The Pentagon's top policy official, James Anderson, resigned in anticipation of being fired by Trump. Anderson was replaced by Anthony Tata, an administration loyalist who was denied the job earlier this year after his prior bigoted comments came to light.
- Trump officials named Kash Patel, another former aide to Devin Nunes, as chief of staff to the secretary of defense.
- The Pentagon's undersecretary of defense for intelligence was also forced to resign and replaced with Ezra Cohen-Watnick, another former NSC staffer and Trump loyalist.
Trump fired Chris Krebs for lying to the public when he issued a statement reassuring Americans that the election was the most secure presidential election in history.
The ''Biggest Liar'' has no credibility when it comes to the truth. This is simply someone that cannot accept that he is a one term president and by that measure a ''Yuge Bigly LOSER''.
64 days is a long time to let an unstable person like Donald Trump wield the powers of the presidency. Can't someone do something about it?
gee, I wonder if secret service protection can be removed with an executive order.
The 25th Amendment provides a remedy, but it's not going to happen.
I bet lots of inquiring minds want to know...
Also, Trump has cancelled all activities that take him outside of the White House, and that includes his Thanksgiving trip to Mar a Lago. Adopting a bunker mentality does nothing to put this country at ease.
I don't think that Trump has any intention of trying to put the country at ease. His favored method always seems to be to create discord and chaos.
Republicans would have to grow spines in order to protect the union sister, and you have to have balls before you can have a spine. The GOP right now is filled with eunuchs.
it might if they dig a burn pit in the rose garden for his use in the near future. /s
He has got to be the most exhausting person on the planet.
Would that be a trump roast ?
I'll pass.
Destroy from within has long been a goal of some.
I wonder if being "fired" "by tweet" has been challenged in court?
Oh well, here's a raised glass to Biden hiring him back asap.
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Chris Krebs just tweeted, "Honored to serve. We did it right. Defend today. Secure tomorrow."
Good man! Biden should hire a person with that mindset.
I doubt Chris Krebs will be unemployed for long, but thanks to Trump, he's have the stigma hanging over his head for the rest of his life, just like so many before him.
Krebs is in good company!
What do Trumpsters say ?
Not much, their mouths are full of crow and sour grapes.
sour crow
Ha!!!!
Cheryls' sister
Chirp chirp?
I saw few of them walking down the middle of the street this evening..... eyes glazed over mumbling.... "Recount.....! Recount......!"
What a coincidence, I saw few of them walking down the middle of the street this evening..... eyes glazed over mumbling...."Stop the count....! Stop the count.....!"
Krebs has been expecting this.
All Trump Administration personnel have this same choice, now: loyalty to Trump or loyalty to the American people and the Constitution.
Those who remain loyal to him, should keep their stance. Those who are redeemable have already jumped ship.
I suppose that for many, it's just a calculation: where does their interest lie, in continuing their careers?
Should they continue to show loyalty to Trump in the hope that he will remember them later?
Should they stand up for the Law, in the hope that someone, anyone, will remember?
Hoping that someone, anyone, will remember courage... is... risky. OTOH, Trump has never shown any gratitude to anyone... so that should weigh...
Who gives a fuck? Really, Trump has less than 2 months in his presidency. He can change his administration any way he wants to up until that time; and it won't make one damn bit of difference. The butt clenching from the left over every single damn action from Trump is ridiculous. Don't worry, the left's boogey man is leaving.
Want to be worried- keep track of Biden's plans in Syria. That should scare the fuck out of everyone.
Thank you for your comment.
Yes, of course, he can make any changes in the administration he wants, much like a toddler can throw a tantrum anytime it wants. It could make a difference in the case of our security or dealing with the pandemic little things like that but toddlers don't worry about adult things. I never thought of Trump as a boogeyman, more of a petulant child with a bad habit of lying. Yes, he is leaving as the American public voted him out yet here he is filing lawsuits claiming the election was stolen from him which is proving to be nothing more than his usual bullshit.
I'm not worried about Biden's plans for Syria, but it sure seems that you are or you're using a self-serving comment to try and prove a useless point.
It sure seems that butthurt is raging among the right-wing on NT. I'd like to suggest some of this salve it's DJT approved.
Kind of ironic don't ya think.
Cheers.
He can also start a war in that time.
Provide classified information to anyone he wants in that time.
Eliminate various federal departments in that time.
Do immeasurable damage to this country in that time.
