(CNN)A Christmas morning explosion that rocked downtown Nashville, injuring at least three people and damaging dozens of buildings, is believed to be an intentional act, authorities said.
According to police, officers with the Metro Nashville Police Department were responding to a call of shots fired around 5:30 a.m. CT Friday when they came upon an RV parked in front of an AT&T transmission building at 166 2nd Avenue North. The RV was playing a recorded message that indicated a bomb would explode in 15 minutes, Metro Nashville Police Chief John Drake said during a news conference Friday. Officers saw no immediate evidence of shots fired but they requested the department's hazardous devices unit and started to evacuate neighborhood residents, police said. The bomb squad was responding when the RV exploded at 6:30 a.m. CT, police spokesman Don Aaron said. Read More "We do believe this to have been an intentional act," he said. "Significant damage has been done to the infrastructure there on 2nd Avenue North." Three people were transported to hospitals from the scene, but none were in critical condition, according to Nashville Fire spokesman Joseph Pleasant. The force of the explosion knocked down one officer, Aaron said, and caused hearing loss in another -- hopefully temporarily, he said. But no officers were significantly injured. A vehicle is on fire after an explosion in Nasvhille on Friday, December 25, 2020. The FBI told CNN that its field office in Memphis is taking over the investigation. There were no known credible threats in the Nashville area that would have signaled an impending attack on or before Christmas, a federal law enforcement source told CNN. A second law enforcement source said federal authorities are not aware of any increased chatter nationally by known extremist groups that would indicate any credible plans for conducting attacks around the holidays. Acting US Attorney General Jeff Rosen was briefed on the incident early this morning, according to his spokesman, "and directed that all DOJ resources be made available to assist in the investigation." The White House said that President Donald Trump has been briefed on the incident as well and would receive "regular updates." Tennessee Gov. Bill Lee said in a statement on Twitter that the state would "supply all the resources needed" to determine the cause of the explosion.
'Everything on the street was on fire'
Eyewitness Buck McCoy told CNN the explosion took place right in front of his home, causing his windows to be blown in. "Everything on the street was on fire," he said. "There were three cars that were fully engulfed." McCoy said he was originally woken up by what he believed were gunshots about 10 minutes prior to the explosion. He got up and looked out the window, he said, but went back to bed when he didn't see anything. Asked if the noise he heard could have been something other than gunfire, McCoy emphasized that he believed it was, saying he owns a gun and goes shooting, so he's familiar with the sound of gunshots. Emergency personnel work at the scene of the explosion. Investigators are doing a secondary search of buildings downtown, particularly those on 2nd Avenue, to make sure no one is in need of help, Aaron said. Prior to the explosion, officers had gone door-to-door or apartment-to-apartment to inform residents of the situation. One man walking a dog on 2nd Avenue was redirected by an officer just before the RV exploded, he said. Officials do not know whether anyone was inside the vehicle when the explosion occurred, he said. Police are not aware of any other attempted explosions. Nashville Mayor John Cooper told CNN that dozens of buildings have been damaged, mostly from having glass blown out. Some buildings have been evacuated, the mayor said, but he did not know how many buildings or how many people had been impacted. "Right now, there's just a whole lot of glass damage on 2nd Avenue," he said. The street is on the edge of the Tennessee city's hospitality and tourist district in an old, historic part of town. Smoke rises from downtown Nashville after an explosion. Cooper told CNN affiliate WSMV that the explosion was "clearly done when no one was going to be around." "Fortunately not many people are here," he said. Footage from CNN affiliate WTVF showed smoke rising from a fire on the street, with debris littering the area. McCoy told CNN that when he looked outsideafter the explosion, trees had fallen and broken glass was everywhere. He saw people filing out of their apartments with their animals. Firefighters told him to get as far away from the area as possible, he said. "There's just nothing left on 2nd Avenue," he said.
CNN's Paul P. Murphy, Evan Perez, Josh Campbell and Devon Sayers contributed to this report.

Islamic radicals, white anti government nuts, or "antifa" ? Take your pick.
I pick criminal nutbar
I pick criminal nutbar
Could be.
One of things I found unusual about this was that the perp (or perps, plural) picked such an early hour, and on Christmas day-- which raises the possibility they they were deliberately tried to avoid harming people-- while creating a lot of other damage.
(A lot-- apparently this was a particularly large bomb...)
In addition, apparently the vehicle has some device that put out the warning the the vehicle would soon blow up (or words to that effect).
Of course at this point its still speculation.
Actually I'm pretty sure that somebody unintentionally left a bomb and those loudspeakers.
I need to find out if my nun status could be in jeopardy if I admit to laughing at that.
My bad. Should have left a /s.
Sorry darling your nun status has been in question since that Joplin concert.
It looks like it was a good thing it was Christmas morning during covid and there was no one on the street
While that may a coincidence, my guess is that the intention may have been to create a large explosion, but to avoid harming people...(but OTOH that's just a guess-- the Fat Lady hasn't even finished putting on her lipstick yet!)
Seems a loud splashy suicide bomb where nobody else was supposed to be killed.
A suicide bomber with a heart who didn't really want to take anybody else with him.
Why didn't this guy drive to a highly populated place and deploy his bomb?
Still many questions about this abnormal bombing.
Let's see what the FBI can come up with...
LMAO Bob this is Newstalkers we don't wait for facts or investigations here, we assign blame immediately mostly based on our political hatred.
Well thanks a whole heap for ruining my person of interest finger-pointing. Although another glass of wine and I might make it anyway.
... oh...
... sorry...
... wasn't thinking...
Or occasionally, in some cases, just based on sheer stupidity?
(Welcome to Social Media! )
Just curious-- why do y'all do that?
Just a guess on my part but I assume it's mostly because it's easy and requires little (if any) actual thought
Dip your finger in the wine, pull it out, put it up in the air and become a weather person.
Whoa... wait a minute...why wait for the actual facts...when a good assumption will do?
(Don't forget-- we're on a Social Media site!)

it seems like this explosion may have been set off as a warning of some sort.
a message was being broadcast from the vehicle that blew up telling people to get out of the area
Weird. Who blows up Nashville?
Someone who hates country music?
(Must be one of those privileged uber-rich "Coastal Elites" we used to hearing so much about?)
twitter weighs in
Oh. Brother. Someone needs to tell the person who tweeted that nonsense that he needs to go back and take a Photography 101 refresher. A blind person could tell that these images were captured with different cameras, at different angles and at different times.
OMG-- not again!
(This is sooo obviously yet another case of Deja Vu All Over Again! Another prank by...THE DEEP STATE!!!).
Yeah that's probably it. And all of the people who live in Nashville, and can see the 'truth' for themselves, are going to remain silent and let the hoax continue.
I suppose this is satire
The Twitter page shows "parody".
Of course...don't you know that Mark Zuckerberg is one of the leaders in "the Deep State".?
Why do you think that Trump, in his infinite wisdom, vetoed The Defense Bill, eh?
(Hint: It wasn't the part about Confederate Generals.. if ya catch my drift!)
more food for thought
Too busy golfing?
At least no one was killed.
After that what I thought was...poor trees.
I just saw a report that said the authorities may have found human remains from the explosion.
Is it sad that I might be starting to agree with people on the right?
Maybe execution of people that do these kind of things would not be a bad thing for society.
Thieves used to be hanged. Maybe we should go back to that...
I am serious though. Someone intentionally explodes a place.
This is not Fight Club.
My Comment was about the death penalty. When a crime has just been committed is not the right moment to decide penalties. Reason is overcome by anger.
Oh I know. I am just getting sick of assholes that just want to destroy.
Of course. Despicable is despicable!
And even more serious crimes than theft. What if someone tries to tuin the entire country? Say, for example, by harsh criticism of the President?
It seems only fitting that the perp be executed!
Lock her up!
Excellent point!
Murderers should receive the appropriate punishment (the Death Penalty).
Excellent idea!
(Of course given her current "occupation"-- there's a good chance that that might be more than a bit . . . redundant! )
This is a very curious act. From the timing to the reports of broadcasted warnings counting down to the reports of human remains. I don't think people construct bombs of this magnitude without an ideological or theological motivation unless they're flat out anarchists.
could have been a victim or hostage in the truck
instead of a suicidal nutcase...
I agree and thought the same when I heard it theorized that it might be an elaborate suicide.
The Bomb warning from RV counted down from 15 minutes to zero, frequently interrupted and delayed by "live" music
giving the police on scene the impression that someone was manipulating the scene from within the RV.
Had to pause for a message from the sponsors....
a random passerby
Or just total nutcases....
And then there have been cases where the perps have been just obsessive "thrill seekers"...or they just "crave attention".`
IIRC, years ago the names-- even sometimes photos-- of terrorists were regularly part of a news story.
Than many news outlets stopped mentioning/posting that information, the idea being that other deranged people seeking attention might be motivated to commit a similar crime-- attentions seekers just wanting to get their name in the papers-- or their photo on TV.
Another possibility-- where IMO is highly unlikely but possible: The RV was parked in from of an AT&T building. It possible that the perp had a grudge against the company...maybe really pissed off about some aspect of his cell phone service?
(Stranger things have happened..)

Well there is that rumour out in the interwebs that the new 5G towers actually caused and transmitted the Covid
My apologies...for posting such a "far-out" theory.
.
Actually, IIRC, there was a story out a while back that a group of angry people in the U.K. actually attacked a tower that was transmitting (or was suspected of transmitting) 5G.
A lot of people do believe that 5G (and perhaps other electronic waves) carry 5G.
(I'm not saying that this was directed at the AT&T bldg, but...)
That "V" in the middle of "Covid"...?
In fact, that's a Roman numeral... a "5"! For 5G.
That is the secret that the Deep State is most desperately hiding!
Covid is being spread by 5G.
Spread the word! The Deep State will not prevail!
Looks like the Hooters survived.
Good comment-- good to see that someone is finally seeing the Big picture!
What gave it away? The audible countdown?
Fuck, until now I thought the whole thing was an accident.;
Hahahahahhahahaha!!!!!
Well, you might be right.
Or if it was intentional, it was probably the act of the mythical "Deep State" (you know, those on the extreme far left of the Democratic Party...for example, people like Joe Biden!!!)
After all, "many people" are saying that President Elect Joe Biden is not only to the far left of other Dems-- but is actually the most extreme Democrat we've had in decades...if not longer!
Biden is clearly intent on destroying America.
Well, traffic cameras picked up Warner's RV at 1:22AM
For approximately 5 hours Warner thought about whether he would do the deed or not.
Then he started with gunshots and other recordings to scare away the residents.
In fact he apparrently tried pretty hard to scare away the residents.
When the police came, the very first radio message was the RV license plates.
While the area rocked from the explosion, police vehicles were already surveilling Warner's residence.
It only took a few hours to get warrants to his home for the investigation to begin,
another meaningless suicide? We shall find out soon enough.
Police have confirmed that Anthony Quinn Warner was the bomber, and was killed in the explosion.
I still say Thank God no one died. Well...
Now the hard part, the why.
I heard it might have had something to do with AT&T.
The Bride & I have had mucho issues with ATT UVerse and their equipmemt
but never contemplated bombing an ATT substation
and dying in the process.
Life is too short & precious
I have Uverse. It is still a lot better than our cable alternative.
I read he was on the techie side. Did surveillance equipment, computer repair and the like. Maybe something with the internal structure of the company.
I don't know. I am just guessing at this point.
That's a sad commentary.
I pay a cheaper price for them and get like a third more content (believe it or not). Plus I like the wireless boxes.
Was with the cable for 15, 20 years. They just kept cutting channels. I had my main email account with them that whole time as well. They decided someone flagged my account and they shut off my emal. Said they would give me another chance yet a day later shut it off again. Basically lost it. Was the last straw for me.
"High-handed" is standard for cable companies.
My thing is borrowing DVDs from the local library.
AHA!
That's proof! Deep State all the way...
(Isn't it interesting that his last name is "Warner"...as in"Time Warner" ... no wonder they targeted AT& T-- obviously a turf between the "Deep State"...and the evil Socialist Rulers of Wall Street!!!)
Don't believe me-- here's proof:
Grew up with Firesign Theater. Provided a line or two way back in the day.
The plays on 'Ruth' were mine.
The Firesign Theater was the best. In my early teens in the 60s The Firesign Theater was a sketch segment during a weekly live late night radio program in L.A. called Radio Free Oz. The Firesign Theater and Radio Free Oz were the same four guys.
I loved "Don't Crush That Dwarf Hand Me The Pliers"!
I guess he wanted to end his life with a bang.
AT&T won't carry NFL Network.
A pox be upon both of them.
Watched the Chiefs go 14-1 today from an antenna.
The reception was not much better than the Chief's performance.
Never seen Mahomes and his receivers look worse.
Patrick and his receivers just weren't on the same page today. But still a W. Barely.
