The die is cast for the Republican Party. It will be destroyed on January 6th in much the same way the Whig party was destroyed by the passage of the Kansas-Nebraska Act in 1854. The act unraveled the Missouri compromise and allowed for the westward expansion of slavery.
The party could not survive its factionalism. There could be no more accommodation, compromise and partnership between pro-slavery and anti-slavery Whigs. A new political party was born, the Republican Party. That party will divide into irreconcilable factions on January 6th.
The 6th will commence a political civil war inside the GOP. The autocratic side will roll over the pro-democracy remnant of the GOP like the Wehrmacht did the Belgian Army in 1940. The ‘22 GOP primary season will be a blood letting. The 6th will be a loyalty test. The purge will follow. Does anybody doubt the outcome of the @IvankaTrump vs. @marcorubio primary in Florida? Anyone willing to make a bet on @robportman ?

it sounds like the author is fantasizing about the death of the GOP
Many gave talked such nonsense in the past, of course, and many have proclaimed the GOP dead.
Every last one of them have been wrong.
John is having another wet dream.
GOP has been dead for a long time, the tumors masticated with Reagan. It's soul is gone. It has reverted back into that which it always was.
Dead???
Best let the Democratic Party know so they can start making some excuses up as to why they couldn't beat a dead party!
I predicted this as well. I don't know how those who follow Trump's lead and are loyal to him as if he were the fuhrer, who follow a Pied Piper believing that his ignorant base will vote for them to retain their office, can possibly coexist with those who have ingegrity, who value the good of America and preservation of its democracy over the whims of a demagogue. Surely there will be a split into two new parties. Let's call them the Trumpian Party and the Lincoln Party. I would bet the Lincoln Party would pick up some independants and even some right-wing Democrats to make it a viable party.
It's the money. Trump is dirty money and the GOP survives on dirty money. And now it is possible that for the first time in decades someone might take a 'serious' look into the money that flows into US politics.
Remember Lev and Igor? That was but a thimbleful of water that took down the Titanic.
Dirty/laundered money. Much of it is foreign. And all of it is illegal.

Loads of people have declared the GOP dead before Trump, during Trump, and probably will after Trump.
Every single one of them has been wrong.
