Federal investigators are deepening their investigation into the January 6 riot, according to CNN.

Feds are said to be looking at potential connections between lawmakers and riot suspects.

If connections are established, lawmakers and staff may have to turn over personal communications.
Federal agencies in charge of investigating the January 6 insurrection at the US Capitol are reviewing whether lawmakers communicated with members of the pro-Trump mob, according to a new report from CNN .
An anonymous US official told CNN that investigators were trying to determine whether those who breached the Capitol were aided by lawmakers.
CNN added that the FBI had "found communications that show connections that investigators plan to examine further," but the exact nature and timing of those communications was unclear from the report. CNN said there had been no evidence so far that lawmakers intentionally aided rioters.
Some who planned or participated in the pro-Trump rally near the White House that preceded the insurrection touted their relationships with members of Congress. As Insider previously reported, the "Stop the Steal" organizer Ali Alexander has said three congressmen helped him plan the rally.
More than 300 people have been charged in connection to the January 6 riot, with many more facing federal and local charges. Insider created a searchable database of every riot suspect who has been charged.
The unnamed US official told CNN that the Justice Department had assigned more than 20 prosecutors to determine the extent to which the Capitol siege was organized, including whether there was outside funding or help from lawmakers.
The CNN report added that Democrats were pushing investigators to review Capitol Police security footage to determine whether any members of Congress gave tours to organizers of the Stop the Steal rally and breach prior to January 6, which has been alleged by some Democratic members of Congress .
The FBI and the Justice Department did not immediately respond to requests for comment from Insider.
