Trump mocked for bizarre statement calling Kentucky Derby winning horse a 'junky' and blaming Biden

S E E D E D   C O N T E N T

Former President Donald Trump is being mocked for calling Medina Spirit, the Kentucky Derby winning horse, a 'junky.'

"So now even our Kentucky Derby winner, Medina Spirit, is a junky. This is emblematic of what is happening to our Country. The whole world is laughing at us as we go to hell on our Borders, our fake Presidential Election, and everywhere else!" said Mr Trump on Sunday.

Since 2020, Mr Trump has been claiming that the 2020 US presidential elections were rigged in favour of Joe Biden. His claim, backed without any evidence, is believed by many of his hardcore supporters.

His comment came after the trainer of the Kentucky Derby winner, Bob Baffert, revealed that Medina Spirit, in a post-race drug test, was found positive for betamethasone, an illegal substance.

It was found that the horse had 11 picograms of the illegal substance which is beyond the legal limit allowed in the Kentucky event.

Mr Baffert, a Hall-of-Fame trainer, while expressing his shock said: "Yesterday I got the biggest gut-punch in racing for something I didn't do. It's disturbing. It's an injustice to the horse," reported Raw Story.

On 1 May, Medina Spirit had won the Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs in Louisville, Kentucky, making Bob Baffert the winningest trainer in the race's 147-year history, with seven victories.

The 68-year-old trainer said Medina Spirit has "never been treated with betamethasone." Medina Spirit has not been disqualified from taking part in the next race.

In September 2020 too, a horse trained by Mr Baffert had tested for the same substance.

Mr Trump's comments came under severe criticism on social media with many mocking him. For instance, Aaron Rupar, a journalist, tweeted: "Is he... is he aware that Medina Spirit is a horse?"

While Exavier Pope, a lawyer, replied to him: "You gotta stop sharing this man's words on here bro."

Some social media users even asked for a drug test to be conducted on the former president as well.

Imagine - A Kentucky Derby winner is to be disqualified and the sports leading trainer is barred from Churchill Downs and all some can think about is what Donald Trump said about it!

For my part, as someone who has made a lot of money on Bob Baffert, I've always known one thing for certain - nobody can possibly be as invincible as he has been. The question will eventually be can the game survive if and when it confronts the Baffert issue?

I think Baffert's success is best explained by the fact that once a trainer gets a reputation for winning a lot of big races people with the money and the ambition to have a Derby/Triple Crown winner will ask that trainer to handle their horse. There are many trainers down the years that have won as many races as Baffert and even as many big races, but not 7 Kentucky Derbys.

At this point in his life he has more to lose by cheating than he has to gain by cheating and winning the race.

According to a news report, this is not the first time Baffert has been involved with something like this. His filly Gamine failed a dope test after the Kentucky Oaks.

That is true John, especially in his case. Remember, two things can be true at the same time.

There are many trainers down the years that have won as many races as Baffert and even as many big races, but not 7 Kentucky Derbys.

He also won two Triple Crowns. (Ben Jones won 6 Kentucky Derby's back in the 30's & 40's, but those Calumet Farm horses weren't invincible.) The point is that we have many superior trainers, but horses have normal form cycles and are limited to certain things such as distance, course and class. When you see a trainer enter a horse and win everywhere, all the time, deep down you know there is a bit more than skill and breeding involved. I bet those kind of people and I'm not surprised when they get caught. As I say, as far as money goes -  I'm a Baffert lover, but I deal in reality.

At this point in his life he has more to lose by cheating than he has to gain by cheating and winning the race.

Let me make a prediction for you. Medina Spirit, which was his third stringer and will most likely be the favorite in Baltimore, won't win the Preakness on May 15th. I'll wait to see if that logic you are using might tell you why.

Would Trump have it any other way? Would you?

“The fault, dear Vic, is not in our stars,
But in Trump himself, that he is his own underling.
