New York Attorney General Probe of Trump Organization Now a Criminal Investigation

The New York attorney general's office's investigation of former President Donald Trump's business now has a criminal component, a spokesman said Tuesday night, joining the Manhattan district attorney's office probe and expanding a monthslong inquiry that until now had been focused on civil fraud.

"We have informed the Trump Organization that our investigation into the organization is no longer purely civil in nature," said Fabien Levy, a spokesman for the attorney general's office. "We are now actively investigating the Trump Organization in a criminal capacity, along with the Manhattan DA."

The Manhattan district attorney's office is conducting an investigation into possible bank fraud and other potential crimes. Separately, the top local prosecutor in the Atlanta area is probing whether Mr. Trump improperly tried to influence election officials last year.

The Trump Organization didn't immediately respond to a request for comment on the investigation, which was reported earlier by CNN.

Mr. Trump has previously called the investigation by New York Attorney General Letitia James, a Democrat, a partisan "witch hunt."

The New York attorney general’s civil investigation  became public last August , when the office said it was looking into whether the Trump Organization and President Trump improperly inflated the value of Mr. Trump’s assets in financial filings. Attorney general’s office investigators have probed several Trump properties, including his sprawling upstate New York estate Seven Springs, a Financial District skyscraper at 40 Wall St., and Trump International Hotel and Tower Chicago, a hotel and residential complex, according to court filings.

The New York attorney general has limited capacity to investigate crimes. Its criminal investigatory authority extends to the sale of securities, labor-law violations and Medicaid fraud, among other matters. It can also be asked to investigate crimes by the head of several New York state agencies, including the New York State Department of Taxation and Finance.

You do understand that many of these investigations started more than 5 months ago, right?  They started under Trump's DOJ, but many were not allowed to proceed under Trump's DOJ.

And yet, after all these years of republican investigations, the republicans were so profoundly incompetent that they could not find anything on any Clinton.  And it is these incompetent republicans that you defend and support.

So the republicans are either incompetent beyond measure, or there was nothing to find..........or both.

Sean , Donald Trump made a 20 million dollar settlement to make a fraud charge against him go away (Trump University).

The New York Times proved, in a 50,000 word article, that Trump and his family members conducted tax fraud through the passing of money from Trump Sr to Donald by using sham vendors for their rental properties.

His children were very close to being indicted for fraud in relation to sales of condos.

At the same time investors in his Atlantic City casinos were losing much of their money because he was declaring bankruptcy Trump was paying himself huge bonuses.

He took donations to his Trump charity and used them to pay a fine from the local government against his Maralago property.

Trump has participated in pyramid schemes (as a spokesman for the multi level marketing company).

Unrelated to business but indicative of his personal ethics was his crusade as a "birther". He lied in that crusade about having sent detectives to Hawaii who , according to Trump, were discovering incredible things about Obamas past.

Donald Trump is a completely corrupt individual. Completely.

The idea that he is only guilty of "accounting errors" is absurd.

When, exactly, is he going to be arrested for conspiring with Putin to steal the 2016 election?   Do you imagine that his company being found guilty of this somehow makes all the lies and conspiracy theories that've been spun about him somehow true?

We've gone from the Big Lie of a treasonous conspiracy between Trump and Russia to steal an election

We have on one side Trump and his campaign welcoming aid from Russia, "Russia, if you're listening..." "If it’s what you say, I love it, especially later in the summer” and, according to a bi-partisan Senate investigation, the Trump campaign manager "sought to secretly share" sensitive internal polling data from the Trump campaign with "a Russian intelligence officer" and a "breathtaking level of contacts between Trump officials and Russian government operatives" which they and the FBI deemed a "very real counterintelligence threat to our elections."

On the other side we have, as even Republican senator Marco Rubio had to admit "irrefutable evidence of Russian meddling" from hacking private political parties email servers and publicly releasing damaging emails during the election to spending $1.25 million a month in fake social media ads and misinformation with the clear goal of hurting the Clinton campaign and helping the Trump campaign.

The only thing they were unable to uncover was a conversation directly between Trump and Putin where Trump was offering or stating what the repayment for Russian aid would be. To call the investigation and the surrounding media interest in it a "hoax" is to be either woefully uninformed or just blatantly stupid and obviously just a sniveling weasel partisan who doesn't give a fuck about truth and will ignore any and all wrongdoing by their own party.

"a "gotcha" of accounting errors at his organization that will result in fines if proven."

What you describe is what the original civil investigation may have ended with, what is coming out now is that this is a CRIMINAL investigation meaning they are attempting to prove and have some evidence that those in the Trump organization committed crimes. We already know Trump former attorney committed crimes on dirty Donald's behalf, he was already sentenced and served time. What we shall soon see is whether those crimes that we all know were at Trumps behest will go all the way to the top, and anyone who has even an shred of integrity and desire for justice to be done will be wanting the truth to come out and wouldn't be downplaying Trumps involvement or trying to cover for Trumps criminal empire.
