Rep. Andrew Clyde, a Georgia Republican who has downplayed the Jan. 6 Capitol riot, refused to shake hands with Michael Fanone, a Washington, DC Metropolitan police officer who was assaulted by pro-Trump rioters while protecting the Capitol, two members of Congress announced on Wednesday.
Clyde has repeatedly downplayed the events of Jan. 6 and claimed during a hearing last month that many of the rioters behaved like they were on a "normal tourist visit."
Clyde's attempt to minimize the Capitol riot is particularly notable because he was photographed helping barricade the doors to the House floor from inside the chamber as pro-Trump rioters attempted to smash them down.
Fanone also said that House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy has refused to meet with him. Fanone, who suffered a heart attack after he was repeatedly stun gunned and beaten by rioters, advocated for the bipartisan commission to investigate the events of Jan. 6 before Republicans sunk the effort.
The officer called Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell's efforts to block the commission "absolutely disgraceful."
"I was absolutely sickened," he told CNN after meeting with the mother of a Capitol police officer who died after the riot. "You know, here I am escorting the mother of a dead policeman, while she and myself advocate for the formation of a commission to investigate the circumstances which resulted in her son's death."

But they are the party of Law and Order. Perhaps they believe in the TV series not the real thing.
I remember when, over many years, the Republicans keep claiming to be "The Party of Law and Order".
Yet now they seem to have taken a very "anti-police" position.
(Apparently the majority of Republicans now feel that "Blue Lives Don't Matter"! )
The people at the Capitol that day do bear a strong resemblance to every white "guest star" that has ever been on Cops.
All those white guys in the wife beater t's....
Whatever happened to "Blue Lives Matter"??????
And its not only Trump Republicans dislike for cops:

Some of our membership here are all about root'n toot'n for Daddy Putin. It's absolutely disgusting.
I have always seen politicians (but primarily the GOP) support of law enforcement the same as I have their support of the military. It is all for show, and there is nothing behind it. The GOP is the worst when it comes to this because they are always the most vocal about their support for both entities, but when it comes time to do more than just talk you would think you were asking them for their bank account info.
This is off-topic, but the GOP is the same with religion, primarily Christianity.
They defend the police when the police are kneeling on the necks of unarmed black Americans, choking them or shooting them in the back, but they stock up on military style weapons, large capacity clips and tons of ammo and start spouting rhetoric about watering the "tree of liberty" whenever they're told they have to abide by federal and State accommodation laws that they feel are somehow infringing on their religious right to discriminate or asked to wear a mask for public safety.
Clyde needs a couple blasts from a stun gun and whacks from a flag pole. It's what normal Capitol tourists do, after all.
I know I always pack my stun gun and a 10 foot flag pole when I go to DC for a vacation
I can top that: I always pack my horns, my smelly-looking pants, and carry a flag tied to a big-ass freaking spear when I hit DC for a vacay.
What an image....
Just another typical gqp field trip!
You win!
I've had enough of Andrew Clyde. It's time for him to crawl back up Trump's yuge, saggy behind and stay there.
And PS: I wonder what Trump has on him. No one would simply volunteer to make themselves look this stupid for no reason.
I know people that do it every day. You are a member of Newstalkers, aren't you?
