Connecticut Supreme Court upholds ruling that teen must undergo chemo

DEVELOPING STORY: The Connecticut Supreme Court upheld a prior ruling Thursday that a 17-year-old cancer patient cannot refuse chemotherapy treatment for Hodgkin lymphoma.

The teen, who is identified in court documents as Cassandra C., but was identified by police as Cassandra Callender in a November missing persons report, was diagnosed with Hodgkins lymphoma in September. At the time, doctors at the Connecticut Childrens Medical Center (CCMC) recommended she receive chemotherapy.

This is a follow up about the teenage girl that wants to refuse chemo therapy. This story came out a couple of months ago

I disagree. The state should not be involved in personal health decisions no matter how crazy or stupid.

I'm with you Miss_C . The medical profession is far too arrogant that they have all the answers . The cancer industry is one of the greediest there is .

Why is a 17 year old, with cancer, a minor and a 17 year old who commits a violent crime eligible for adult prosecution?

Is a 17 year old a child, young adult, mature child, immature adult; is gender afactor?

Given the minor status, perhaps there's evidence we're not privy to....tough call.

jwc2blue - wonderful comment, and every point important. I'm sorry that you know how horrible treatment can be.

MM - I agree, the words "life isn't fair" was a mantra in our home!

The glaring irony, Connecticut doesn't haveparental consent law for abortion.

We'll have to disagree about the fair part. Buried my 19 year old, I get dead is dead.

Nona, thank you for the empathy and hug :) A long time ago, but reading life is completely fair is tantamount to waving a red flag in front of a bull for me.

Lynne,

I am so sorry about the loss of your child.

Life isn't fair. In fact, sometimes life just sucks.
