Antifa mob wreaks havoc on GOP candidate's Portland rally: 'From roses to riots'

Sandy, Oregon mayor and Republican gubernatorial candidate Stan Pulliam is devastated after an alleged Antifa group disrupted his "Fund the Police" rally in Portland on Saturday.
Prepared to throw firecrackers at attendees and deface campaign materials, the group brought a reminder of its "anti-fascist" message that often finds itself on the opposing end of free speech supporters.

During a Monday interview with "Fox & Friends First" guest host Joey Jones, Pulliam described the developments as "unbelievable."
"The city of Portland - from roses to riots. As a statewide candidate for governor, we should be able to go to the largest metropolitan community of our state and have a peaceful campaign rally," he said.
"Of course, less than 15 minutes in, we're greeted by Antifa, showing up with firecrackers that they're throwing at us, paint, feces all over our campaign [signs], our campaign bus completely destroyed…"

Pulliam used the instance to illustrate the state of Portland and to remind viewers that he would act as a fighter for the people of his state.
He also weighed in on claims that Antifa is fictitious, saying that certain naysayers denied that the development took place.
"It's unbelievable. We have video footage evidence that's all over Twitter, all over social media, the local news has picked it up, and just like you say, they're claiming it didn't even happen," he said.
Pulliam pointed to the wave of violent crime, including riots and homicides, and to a shortage of law enforcement which prompted a 20-minute wait for a 911 operator after attendees attempted to call the police.
Pulliam added these examples in stressing the need for change.
"That's why we're running for governor," he said. "Republicans are looking for a fighter, and we're going to take this fight all the way to the governor's office."

Any protest to the right wing is ANTIFA. They even tried to sell 1-6-2020 as ANTIFA. They manage to find only one and switched gears to calling what was their crowd Peaceful Picnic Patriots.
Compared to left wing protest it was very peaceful. There were no arson fires, few people killed or injured and those that were were protesters, no looting little property damage.

I find it difficult to discern culpability from shear ineptness in Portland. Continued violence and vandalism combined with high housing costs, homelessness and poor political leadership has led to a decline in Mutnomah County and the Portland metro area.
Last Fri evening a string of stolen car crashes, demonstrations and shootings strained Portland police and they had to limit their responses to only life-threatening calls. Portland policing is a thankless job.
They make good beer there though.

Anti-fascist groups exist, there is no centralized ANTIFA organization or leadership, just some disparate leftwing extremists who, on a local level, organize anti-fascist protests whenever right wing fascists push their toxic ideology in their towns. With that said, anyone from either side who resorts to violence, vandalism or looting should be arrested and held accountable for their crimes. While the vast majority on the left share a disgust for fascists, only a small number on the fringe confront them with violence and vandalism and those who do are clearly more anarchists than simply being left of center ideologically.
The attempt to paint anyone on the left as some fantasy card carrying ANTIFA members is clearly just more right wing dishonesty and an attempt to deflect from right wing conservatives obvious move towards fascism by claiming to be the victims, something those with weak arguments supporting their ideological bile often do.

I looked at the Fox News video of the "antifa riot" at his campaign rally. It appears that about 8 or 10 people dressed in black threw a couple smoke bombs toward the "crowd" of Pulliam supporters. Hardly a riot.

The sound of “significant explosions” could be heard in the area, police said....Firework mortars left one man with a hand injury and a woman complained of hearing loss, police said in a statement.
From the two videos I have seen there appears to have been just a few people there on both sides.

What I think is that it was a small rally and a small amount of people dressed in black came towards them throwing small fireworks. And the confrontation was brief. The videos show nothing else.

One of many Fri night in Portland:
At 5:01pm, officers responded to a report of a stolen van located near Southeast 20th Avenue and Southeast Division Street. The van's driver eventually crashed at Southeast Ash Street and Southeast 26th Avenue, striking two pedestrians, one with life threatening injuries. Multiple suspects ran off into the neighborhood.
At 6:54pm, officers responded to a report of a group throwing objects off the Northeast Glisan Street overpass over Interstate 205, and that a shot had been fired. Portland Police were monitoring a protest "convoy" that was driving through Portland and counterdemonstrators confronting them.
At 7:48pm, officers were notified that Oregon State Police (OSP) were pursuing a stolen ambulance into Portland. Several calls came in about the driver of the ambulance driving recklessly, including driving on sidewalks and going the wrong way on some one-way streets. OSP later stopped the vehicle outside of Portland and arrested the suspect.
At 11:59pm, officers responded to a report of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle at Southeast 82nd Avenue and Southeast Henderson Street. When they arrived they located an adult male with severe injuries. The driver who struck him left the scene and was not immediately located.
On Saturday, at 12:37am, officers were dispatched to the 7200 block of Southeast Woodstock Boulevard on a report that someone was shot in or near a convenience store. When officers arrived they found it was actually two shooting victims.
At 1:17am, officers responded to a report of a shooting in the 00 block of Southeast 127th Avenue. One shooting victim was located and transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
At 2:06am, officers responded to the 14100 block of Southeast Woodward Street on a report of two people shot.
At 2:18am, officers responded to a report of a shooting at a bar in the 3200 block of Southeast Hawthorne Boulevard. They located one victim on scene who was transported to the hospital by ambulance. A short time later, another possible victim arrived at a hospital by private vehicle, although it is not clear if he was related to this shooting. A third male was hurt by possible shrapnel and arrived at the hospital by private vehicle.
