Setting the stage
"To ensure candidates may maximize the time allotted in the debate, no audience will be present," said CNN, which named Jake Tapper and Dana Bash as co-moderators.

There will be Presidential debates. The first will be provided by CNN on June 27 and the second will be provided by ABC on September 10th. In what many consider to be a desperate move by Joe Biden, who is struggling in the polls, Joe Biden offered (with conditions) to debate former President Trump. Trump immediately accepted, leaving many Republicans wondering why he would accept such terms.

Let's face it, these are the terms:

No live audience

RFK Jr. is banned

Trump’s mic is muted when
Biden speaks

Only to be hosted by NPR, CNN, MSNBC, ABC, or CBS

Moderated by Democrat-aligned reporter

Donald Trump had already accepted an offer from Fox, but Biden's team declined. Most likely the Biden campaign felt they had to do something to get Biden some momentum, so they had him take the initiative yesterday and the leftwing media drove the story all day as Donald Trump accepted immediately. Trump has always said "anytime, anyplace." Biden may have forced his campaign into it when he said he would debate Trump on the Howard Stern show a few weeks ago. Neither Trump nor Biden has been in a debate for about 4 years. Biden seldom speaks for more than 15 minutes anymore. I am sure that was part of the appeal for Trump, having Biden on a stage for hours with Biden's knees going wobbly and Joe forced to focus on all those friendly questions that CNN and ABC will be sending his way. Leftist activist George Stephanopoulos will be in charge of the ABC moderators and presentation. Can you imagine what kind of questions each man will get?

The reason for the Biden looking to debate is obvious: Although the race is tight, Biden is still in serious trouble in key battleground states and we have reached the point where people are making their decisions, and those choices are unlikely to change.

In other news:

The U.S. anchored a temporary pier on Gaza’s coast for humanitarian aid. Hamas had been firing rockets at it.

The Israeli defense minister warned that Israel could have to establish military rule over Gaza unless it set up an alternative government there.

Robert Fico, the prime minister of Slovakia, was shot and wounded.

Vladimir Putin arrived in China for a summit with Xi Jinping.

Ukraine is fighting desperately to repel a Russian assault in the northeast of the country.

House Republicans are considering holding AG Merrick Garland in contempt of congress.

Ron Klain, Biden’s former chief of staff, said he expects to reprise his role in helping organize debate prep for 2024 as he did in 2020. Bob Bauer, a former White House counsel and now personal attorney to Biden, played the role of Trump in mock sessions four years ago; advisers would not yet say whether he planned to reprise the role.

Keeps people from laughing on live TV when Babbling Biden goes off on one of his stories.

Why?  Too many people for Traitor Joe to pay attention to?

An alternative democrat? No way!

Biden's mic will be on when Biden speaks.

On Morning Joe this morning they played about a two minute long clip of Trump being utterly out of control at the first 2020 debate. He cannot let Biden finish a sentence without interrupting.  It is a pathetic display for a US presidential candidate.  Of course their mics need to be turned off while the other is speaking, there is no other sane way to do this when Trump is involved.

If he doesnt like it he can stay home.

The Biden campaign already ruled out Fox News and if Trump demanded that now, the Biden people would claim that he is looking to get out of what he just agreed to.

Trump is so sure that Biden can't do a debate, that he has locked himself into what is likely to be two highly partisan debates.

There is a good chance that accepting these debates will be the biggest mistake Trump has ever made.

Why? Because Biden will have the opportunity to put the "Big Lie" before the public, particularly the undecideds, in a way that it has never been done before and put Trump in a terrible an irredeemable light.

On the few times since Jan 6 2021 that Trump has been interviewed by a non MAGA news source he has been able to avoid responsibility for the Big Lie because the interviewers dont want to be perceived as "anti-Trump". Biden will have no such restrictions.

"Mr Trump, what were you doing on the afternoon of Jan 6th while police were being beaten at the nation's capitol?  Were you watching tv instead of attempting to end the riot?

Mr Trump, show us the evidence you have that the election was stolen from you, not your endless bs, actual evidence.  Bring all the actual evidence you have to the second debate. When you cant produce ANY, the American people will see you for what you are.

and on and on.

Trump has not debated or been in an unfriendly interview since before Jan 6 2021,  and he has no answers. If Biden does this right he can win the election with these two debates.

I haven't watched political debates at any level for years as it is all nonsense talking, just babbling. I watch daily actions/words, platforms/policies supported. Debates are useless in my opinion, anyone watching has already made up their minds who they are voting for, only watch debates to criticize/make fun of opponent, no one really cares what is said.
