The debate over debates

The debate over debates
"Now that they've started their debate prep with Harris, they're wanting to change the rules," the Trump advisor Jason Miller wrote on X. "What is it they're seeing that has them worried?"

After demanding that Trump honor the debate agreement he had with Joe Biden, the Harris campaign now wants rule changes which the Biden campaign demanded for all the debates. The Harris' campaign is demanding that microphones stay unmuted at the next debate. Furthermore, they would like to have Kamals sitting down for the 90 minutes with notes to look at.

She's more than happy to have exchanges with him if he tries to interrupt her," one person familiar with the negotiations told Politico, adding that Trump was "very prone to having intemperate outbursts" and that the campaign "would want viewers to hear."

Kamala Harris wants Trump's mic to stay unmuted the whole time during their upcoming debate (msn.com)

No shit.

This debate seems to be a matter of who might screw up.

The Empire Strikes Back:

The illegally appointed Jack Smith has filed a fresh criminal indictment against former President Trump. The new one isn't much different from the old one. Smith is trying to get around the SCOTUS ruling on executive privilege. It is unlikely that there would be a trial before the election, but it would generate a lot of negative narratives against Trump during the final two months of the campaign. Smith is what the French call "evidente."

UlySIpvg?format=jpg&name=small

The timing of Jack Smith's revised indictment against Trump raises eyebrows in legal circles because DOJ manual forbids actions designed to impact elections

In other news:

Kamals Harris has committed to an interview tomorrow night on democrat media ally network CNN. Her vp pick Tim Walz will be there with her. Does that mean Walz will suck up half the time? Will Bash let him run out the clock?

Israel’s military rescued a hostage who was working as a guard at a kibbutz when he was abducted — from a tunnel in Gaza.

Israel’s military launched a broad operation in the occupied West Bank.

The New York Times tells us that the U.S. job market has recovered from a pandemic loss, but the recovery has been uneven: Texas & Florida are booming while parts of the Midwest and California are not. The Times doesn't understand why.

A US Naval strike group commander says that more aggressive strikes against the Houthis were rejected by US leaders because the High command was concerned about Iran at the time.

Good morning.

Anti-Israel agitators defaced property  at Cornell University  in Ithaca, New York, and held a massive protest on the first day of classes Monday, despite administrators' efforts to prevent a repeat of the spring chaos.

Along the entrance of Day Hall on Monday morning, the messages "Israel bombs, Cornell pays" and "Blood is on your hands" were scrawled in red spray paint, and the door glass had been smashed.

"We are appalled by the graffiti spraypainted, and glass shattered overnight along the front entrance of Day Hall," Cornell's Vice President for University Relations Joel Malina said in a statement.

The illegally appointed Jack Smith has filed a fresh criminal indictment against former President Trump. The new one isn't much different from the old one. Smith is trying to get around the SCOTUS ruling on executive privilege.

That's what happens when you try to "get him at all costs".  He's hoping people and the courts forget how he was "appointed" as special counsel and don't force him out.

It is unlikely that there would be a trial before the election, but it would generate a lot of negative narratives against Trump during the final two months of the campaign.

Really that's the whole point.  Try to get that negative narrative out there.  But it's hard to do that when the person who is "prosecuting" it hasn't been properly appointed and admitted to mishandling evidence (classified material).

They are up for a fight as their "prosecution", for all intents and purposes, is all politically motivated and the former POTUS has picked up support of those who are against the Kim, Jong un style prosecution.

Although Kennedy has said in his speech formally dropping out of the race Friday that he would try to remove his name from the ballot in battleground states where his candidacy could be a spoiler, he added that he wasn’t formally ending his bid and said his supporters could continue to back him in the majority of states, whether red or blue, where they are unlikely to sway the outcome.

"In about 10 battleground states where my presence would be a spoiler, I'm going to remove my name, and I've already started that process and urge voters not to vote for me," Kennedy said. "Our polling consistently showed by staying on the ballot in the battleground states, I would likely hand the election over to the Democrats, with whom I disagree on the most existential issues."

Yep, he stated that when he suspended his campaign. He's staying in the election on the slim hope that neither of the major candidates gets to 270 EC votes and the election then moves to the House. His only hope at this point is a contested election where the House rejects both major candidates and puts him in the Oval Office.

Amusing how the people who have no intention of voting for a candidate want to dictate to that candidate and to individual states what should be done.

Amusing how the people who have no intention of voting for a person have done everything they can to keep that person off state ballots and throw him in prison.

Ironic, hub?

Wisconsin joins Michigan in REFUSING TO REMOVE Robert F. Kennedy Jr. from the 2024 Presidential ballot. Why is that?

Possibly the expense of reprinting sample ballots or reprograming 155 counties with different types of voting apparatus.

Why should the people bear the cost of a candidates decision to "suspend"?

"Suspend" has no legal meaning to the FEC, therefore they still consider RFK Jr to be running for POTUS.

It's a federal election law.

The FEC won’t  formally recognize  the termination of a campaign until candidates have paid off all of their debts and obligations and agree not to receive any more contributions. Until then, the candidate is still running and will still appear on ballots.

Why Presidential Candidates ‘Suspend’ Their Campaigns but Don’t End Them | The Fiscal Times

  • Despite Kennedy's decision, the Natural Law Party needs him to stay on the ballot to maintain future ballot access
  • Kennedy will remain on the Michigan ballot because  state election law  doesn’t allow candidates to remove their names once a party has nominated them and it’s after the primary.

Question of the day:

Why did CNN agree to do a pre-taped interview with Harris and Walz instead of going live?

Why did CNN agree to do a pre-taped interview with Harris and Walz instead of going live?

That's a long list of possibilities. Look at the last time their candidate was unscripted.  He blundered and vapor locked, she cackles constantly.  A pre-taped interview allows them to edit all that out.  Not that it can make them sound even remotely close to knowing what they are doing.

I have a feeling that is going to be the number one answer.

Which makes the debate even more important. I also wonder if the Harris campaign will look at the CNN "interview" and feel they can pronounce that they did do interviews so why do another...

After two decades at war with the Taliban, the U.S. government is now sending millions of taxpayer dollars to the terrorist group.

The Taliban resumed power in Afghanistan immediately after the chaotic and deadly withdrawal of U.S. troops earlier in the Biden administration.

A recently released federal watchdog report shows that the U.S. government has sent at least $11 million to the Taliban since the 2021 withdrawal of U.S. troops. But experts and even the federal watchdog estimate the number is much higher.

That was the deal that Trump made, sorry.

Trump wasn't president in 2021.  The  UN is not the US government and why would it send money to the Taliban?

Supposedly the funds are going to groups aiding the Afghan people, but how likely is it that none of it is getting through?

The Taliban just banned women from showing their face in the public.

Unsurprisingly, none of the people who constantly protest on behalf of Palestinians being oppressed seem to care.

The Trump Administration approved the Doha Agreement.  Certain payments were guaranteed for a few years but it appears that Biden stopped all direct payments to the Afghan government when the Taliban took over and broke part of the agreement by not prosecuting or pursuing Al-Qaidah.

The  UN is not the US government and why would it send money to the Taliban?

We have no diplomatic relations with Afghanistain. The US is however the number one donor to humanitarian aid in Afghanistan using some 90 or so UN agencies as pass throughs.  The total aid between 2021 and 2023 was apparently $2.8Billion dollars.

Supposedly the funds are going to groups aiding the Afghan people, but how likely is it that none of it is getting through?

About half of those agencies have reported having to pay "business taxes" to the Taliban totaling roughly $10.90Million or 3%.

So it appears that 97% of the funds do get used for their intended purpose.
