REHOBOTH BEACH, Del. --   The Israeli strike that killed Hezbollah’s   Hassan Nasrallah   was a “measure of justice" for victims of a four-decade “reign of terror,” President Joe Biden said Saturday.

The comments came after Lebanon’s Hezbollah group   confirmed earlier Saturday   that Nasrallah, one of the group’s founders, was killed in an Israeli airstrike in Beirut the previous day.

Biden noted that the operation to take out Nasrallah took place in the broader context of the conflict that began with Hamas’ massacre of Israelis on Oct. 7, 2023.

“Nasrallah, the next day, made the fateful decision to join hands with Hamas and open what he called a ‘northern front’ against Israel,” Biden said in a statement.

He also noted that Hezbollah under Nasrallah’s watch has been responsible for the deaths of thousands of Americans, Israelis and Lebanese.

Hezbollah attacks against U.S. interests include the truck bombing of the U.S. Embassy and multinational force barracks in Beirut in 1983 and the kidnapping of the Central Intelligence Agency chief of station in Beirut, who died while held captive. The U.S. said Hezbollah leaders armed and trained militias that carried out attacks on American forces during the war in Iraq.

The White House sees the death of Nasrallah as a huge blow to the group. At the same time, the administration has sought to tread carefully as it has tried to contain Israel 's war with Hamas, which, like Hezbollah, is backed by Iran, from exploding into an all-out regional conflict.

The White House and Pentagon were quick on Friday, shortly after the strike, to say publicly that Israel offered it no forewarning of the operation.

“President Biden and I do not want to see conflict in the Middle East escalate into a broader regional war,” Vice President Kamala Harris said in a statement Saturday that echoed Biden's description of a “measure of justice.” She added, “Diplomacy remains the best path forward to protect civilians and achieve lasting stability in the region.”

The confirmation of Nasrallah's death comes during a week that began with Biden’s top national security aides working on the sidelines of the U.N. General Assembly to build support for a 21-day Israel-Hezbollah cease-fire that they hoped might also breathe new life into stalled efforts to secure a truce in Gaza.

Biden reiterated on Saturday that he wants to see cease-fires both in Gaza and between Israel and Hezbollah.

“It is time for these deals to close, for the threats to Israel to be removed, and for the broader Middle East region to gain greater stability,” Biden said.

Well, I HAVE been to Morocco, Egypt, Jordan and even the West Bank, and survived, although we did have a bit of a scare in Jordan.

In Jordan, Petra is very much worth a tour.  However, what made me laugh there were the kids who gathered up stones off the ground, put them on a table, and sold them as souvenirs to the tourists who could just as easily pick up a stone themselves, because there were lots of them around.

I went to israel with two friends-- they were on a commercial photoshoot at the Jerusalem zoo. I was an assistant (without pay, but it was a fun job). After some time doing the photography, we had some time before return to the U.S. We decided we would go see Petra and a few local sites-- or go to Egypt. Egypt won the vote so I never saw Petra.

I think Muslims don't like Buddhists either, but at least the Koran doesn't command them to kill Buddhists, just Jews.

As I remember it specifically singles out Jews-- but really talks of all "Non-believers".

Some interpret that to mean all non-Muslims. However often if they're no non-Muslims around, the Sunni Muslimsconsider the Shia Muslims to be non-believers-- and vice-versa.

In the past, I've occasionally heard the argument that we should always be "reasonable" and negotiate-- and that "nothing wasever solved by violence".

But those people apparently have very little knowlege of history. Two examples that come to mind-- Nazi Germany and Imperial Japan during WWII. Neither of those would ever "be reasonable"-- unfortunately (violent) warfare was the only thing that could bring them down.

A good part of the problem is that theu fanatics can't be reasoned with... only violence will work in many cases.

Many people aware of the horrors of the Nazis in WWII, but perhaps lesser known was that Imperial Japan was also fanaticAL. Many people are unaware of Imperial Japan's "Unit 731":

Established in 1936, Unit 731 was responsible for some of the most notorious  war crimes committed by the Japanese armed forces .

It routinely conducted tests on people who were  dehumanized  and internally referred to as "logs". Victims were further dehumanized by being confined in facilities referred to as "log cabins". Experiments included disease injections, controlled dehydration,  biological weapons  testing,  hypobaric   pressure chamber  testing,  vivisection organ harvesting amputation , and standard weapons testing.

Victims included not only kidnapped men, women (including pregnant women) and children but also babies born from the systemic  rape  perpetrated by the staff inside the compound. The victims also came from different nationalities, with the majority being Chinese and a significant minority being Russian.

Additionally, Unit 731 produced biological weapons that were used in areas of China not occupied by Japanese forces, which included Chinese cities and towns, water sources, and fields.

Estimates of those killed by Unit 731 and its related programs range up to half a million people, and none of the inmates survived. During the end of the war, all prisoners were killed to conceal evidence. ( READ IT ALL )

But knowing the end for them was coming, at least they surrendered.  Israel's enemies will NEVER surrender, even down to the last militant standing.

Have you ever heard of The Rape of Nanjing (Nanking)?

21612029.jpg

The Japanese soldiers had contests about how many men they could behead during a certain period of time.  Chinese women were not included, they were used for something else.

American journalist Daniel Pearl met the same fate at the hands of Muslim terrorists as did a lot of people from Israel and even other nations on Oct 7.  How can the world allow such primitive  monsters to survive?  But the UN supports them and the world despises Israel instead.

So far so good :-)

What Israel has done in just a few days has many of their enemies really scared. (Of course some of their most fanatical may still fight on, but at this point many of them don't want to continue fighting. Hezb'Allah is greatly weakened-- at least for now).

Now THAT is scary - were you thinking of Hitchcock's movie Psycho?  For me, your comment conjured up the image of a monster with a big knife emerging from the bottom of the toilet while a terrorist militant was sitting on it.   Even if he were strongly constipated that should scare the s**t out of him.

There seems to be a common belief that Israel’s goal in its recent actions was to kill as many terrorists and terrorist supporters as possible. But that’s not true.

Yes, their goal was to eliminate major Hizb’Allah leaders. But in addition to that their major goal was to illustrate Israel’s ability to defend themselves and cause great fear in Hizb’Allah so that they would stop their attacks on Northern Israel and people in the North could return to their homes.
