U.S. — With heated debate taking place across the country over President Donald Trump's initiative to carry out mass deportations of illegal aliens, Democrats found themselves once again concerned about who would be picking their crops.

Just as they did back in the 1860s, Democrats voiced opposition to any policy changes that would cause them to lose an overwhelming percentage of the staff they keep around to pick all of the produce in their fields.

"We already had to deal with this problem once, let's not do it again," said Congresswoman Nancy Pelosi. "Look, we all need brown people out in the fields picking crops. It's not easy to find people willing to do that job, so once you have them, you definitely want to keep them there by any means necessary. Chains, even. We used to do that. Then, those awful Republicans had to go and screw everything up. Now, they're trying to do it again."

Democrats feared yet another major setback in fully staffing their estates with crop pickers. "Our country simply can't function if we don't have someone to pick crops for us," Senator Chuck Schumer said. "Let's face it, cotton doesn't pick itself. There must be some solution to this problem that doesn't once again deprive us of our essential household staff. The next thing you know, Trump will be telling us we're not allowed to 'own people' anymore. What type of a world would that be?"

At publishing time, Democrats had asked President Trump if they would be allowed to just ship illegal aliens back to the U.S. and purchase them at auction like in the old days.

Okay Greg, I know its satire, but when it DOES come to "Who the fuck's going to DO those hard nasty jobs?" there aren't going to be any political differences.

I believe its mostly non-union. So the growers pay low wages. When their gone the growers will have to hire union workers-- the cost of these agriculural products will increase greatly. Legal-- but also it will cause food prices to go up, as will inflation.

The hurtful consequences of Trump's immigration and tariff policies will soon be felt, and maybe a lot of people who voted for him will regret it, maybe even more so if their kids die or become crippled because of some disease they are no longer vaccinated against.

Hopefully he will not send our boys and girls (those in the armed forces) to Panama to fight and die so that American ships can pay lower tolls to use the Panama Canal.

There is no way to predict the extent of harm he is going to cause.

Seems to me the predictions are pretty easy when Trump does what he says he'll do.  The rule-based liberal world order just won't be the same.

In case you haven't noticed, Trump hasn't tried to isolate China (as Biden wanted to do).  Trump wants to limit Chinese access to the United States.  China still has unfettered access to the rest of the world.  So, why would breaking ties with the US really hurt China?

I don't think anyone has a problem with seasonal workers coming over for this. Dems are trying to play it as if that will change.

It won't.

Trump suspended the H-1B program his 3rd day in office.

Officials said the ban on worker visas, combined with extending restrictions on the issuance of new green cards, would keep as many as 525,000 foreign workers out of the country for the rest of the year.

I would like to think that these visas are only being temporarily stopped to review how they are given, and if nothing nefarious, then they will be resumed.

No worries, I don't think anyone will have to pick their own produce, however, that may be a way to get people away from their computers and out of the house.

Sure... From the same article I quoted above -

Stephen Miller, the White House aide and the architect of Mr. Trump’s immigration policy, has pushed for years to limit or eliminate the worker visas, arguing that they harm employment prospects for Americans.

I'm pretty sure those IGs went to work this week like normal. There is a process to removing IGs and it isn't by decree from the Emperor.

Rich people, like Emperor Trump, will hire illegals even as they treat them like dirt.

President Donald Trump fired multiple independent federal watchdogs, known as inspectors general, in a Friday night purge, removing a significant layer of accountability as he asserts his control over the federal government in his second term, according to two people with knowledge of the dismissals, granted anonymity to share details they were not authorized to speak about publicly. The ousters set up what will likely be one of Trump’s first major court battles since taking office. At least one of the fired inspectors general — the State Department’s Cardell Richardson Sr. — has told staff he plans to show up to work on Monday, arguing that the firings are illegal, according to a person familiar with the situation who requested anonymity to reveal the internal discussions. A State Department spokesperson did not respond to a request for comment.

trmp ignored the process. These firings are illegal because of the 30 day notice requirement.

But how will they get the illegals into the country? I thought trmp had a concept of a plan to stop the illegals from crossing the border?

A written 30 day notice to both chambers of Congress.

If an Inspector General is removed from office ... the President shall communicate in writing the substantive rationale, including detailed and case-specific reasons for any such removal ... to both Houses of Congress (including the appropriate congressional committees), not later than 30 days before the removal or transfer.

Considering he's only been in office 8 days, now I'm certain of it. I don't know if the House and Senate leaders be able to read Trump crayon scribbles anyway.

Rules and laws are for us poor people.

Kudos for playing this card less than two weeks after Biden handed out blanket pardons for a decade of criminal activities to his family and cronies.  Most people would feel too ridiculous to make that argument.

But the President does not have to follow an unconstitutional law. Congress has no  power to constrain the President from firing executive branch employees.

They haven't been this worked up since 1865.
