Today I Took 88 Photos and Passed Up A Few Nice Trout
Autumn is a dilemma for me; much of the fishing in fresh-water lakes and streams is at its peak for the year
but so are the colors of the autumn leaves.
There have been years when I felt confident enough to hang a camera around my neck while simultaneously waving a fly rod. But these days, I wouldn't consider taking pictures without putting my camera on a tripod (rather than risking pictures ruined by blur) and I won't wade alone in a stream for safety reasons.
So, these days, in the fall, the camera gets first priority.
It will take a while to go through today's 88 pictures 20 or so "publishable" quality shots will mean a successful outing. Here's the first of the bunch I deem thus. Please watch for others (hopefully).
Pennypack Creek, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
All photos unless otherwise noted/ Pennypack Creek in Philly.
About an hour after I finished the 88th shot, I got an 89th, this in my back yard which is at the edge of the same woods where I took the fall photos (about 1/2 mile north). Philadelphia has the largest wild White-tailed Deer population of any city in the world! This big boy was born in my back yard some years ago. The pole in front of him has a hanging bird-feeder he dines there regularly. Because I keep my camera on a tripod in my family room, when I see a scene like this out of the window, I often get the shot.
I made this one more "painterly."

But no complaints.
I always release them so today, they simply missed out on the exercise.
Just posted a second photo from today.
Fabulous Mac!! Fal is truly a wonderful timel for photography. So may colors and textures!!
Beautiful photos Mac, as always.
You gotta' see who came to my back yard after shot #88 and posed for #89. He's a deer friend of mine. Third photo from the top.
Love the photo of the buck, Mac...
Looks like he's saying...Well, you gonna come out and play or not...
Nice photos, but I'd like to see one of a beautiful trout.
Hopefully tomorrow, pokermike.
Only a few days left for the Autumn colours, lots of time left to catch trout. Do you use any kind of filter to get the deep blue sky, or any adjustment in the printing - or is that just the natural sky colour where you are? I almost never get to see a deep blue sky here.
Absolutely beautiful. You're fortunate to be there in the Poconos. Guess I spelled it right. Anyway great photos.
Amazing Mac! I am a huge fan! Thank you as always!
Buzz,
The sky was pretty close to the color in the photos and I deepened it and the other colors somewhat by using a circular polarizer (I wouldn't think of taking any outdoor photo without using one).
Six,
You did, in fact spell "Poconos" correctly; but these photos, including the buck, were all taken in PHILADELPHIA! I grew up and still live in a city with some badass neighborhoods -- but it's also a city that has had the good sense to preserve the forests and streams that are interspersed throughout.
Many thanks for all the kind words; a significant part of the satisfaction of getting nice pictures, is getting to share them with good people.
Fabulous! You never fail toamaze me! That deer was posing for you, I just know it was!!
"A deer friend of mine".......lol
I have added a fourth photo from yesterday transformed to a "painting."
MAC! It really does look like a painting. You certainly are a gifted person!!
I'm leaving soon to go to one of my favorite walking paths...very pretty place( civilized thought) I will return to share more pic's to bore people with. lol
Added one more; an American Sycamore Tree.
MAC!!! I'm running out of adjectives to describe your great work!! Thanks for sharing!!
pokermike,
For you, sir.
I took his picture and put him back among his kind.
Oh man, what a beauty!! Many thanks to you for the photo (as you promised).
