Part 2 of Buzz's China Retrospective Photos

Part 2 of Buzz's China Retrospective Photos

From my travels through China I have amassed a lot of photos, but what good are they if I can't share them? Here are some more. Some you may already have seen but there are others I know you have not. At the very least it is a respite from all the bad news about Ebola virus, Middle East wars, politics, etc.

1. A Monk at the White Horse Temple in Luoyang. It is called the White Horse Temple because the religion of Buddhism was introduced to China by Monks who came on white horses from India carrying Buddhism texts and statuettes of the Buddha. The Emperor took a liking to them and granted them a large piece of land to construct their temple. Since that time it has expanded greatly and recently India built an Indian Buddhist temple on the grounds as a gift to China.

2. This photo of Chongqing was taken from a boat upon which my wife to be and I cruised on the river. The misty air caused the beams of light to flare.

3. And here my wife to be is now my wife. Even though it can get really cold here in central China there are still many palm trees. This is the first time I saw blossoms on palm trees.

4. Talking about trees, here is a really spooky one, although I did doctor the photo somewhat by desaturating the colour and increasing the contrast. Think of this as my Hallowe'en contribution.

5. On Sunday mornings elderly people gather to do fan dances, sword dances, Tai Chi, and many other forms of exercise. In the evening they get together for slow western style dancing. 3213_discussions.jpg

6. They also play croquet on Sunday mornings, but they play it on a hardened dirt space rather than grass. I think I may have posted this photo before.

7. When I was in Chongqing last June I walked about and thought that this would show both the older and newer (giant) apartment buildings. The laws here say that an apartment building does not require an elevator unless it has more than 8 floors. There is no way I would want to live on an upper floor with no elevator - even the third floor.

3215_discussions.jpg

8. On Sunday mornings I often go to an area set aside for what is called "English Corner". You can see the banner at the left. Here many Chinese who want to improve their English come out to practise speaking with a few foreign teachers. The Chinese who come are ages from 4 to 80. This guy, Mike, is from Texas, here singing American folk songs. He regularly teaches English at a school.

9. This is a pagoda at the Emperor's Summer Palace near Beijing. Behind me is a man-made lake and a hot water spring.

3217_discussions.jpg

10. These are the famous Terra Cotta Warriors at Xi'an, which was once a Dynasty capital of China. The Emperor was so concerned that in death he might be defeated by some other pretender to his throne he built this army to protect him. There are thousands of them, and horses, many still being unearthed. It was only recently discovered, I believe in the 1970s.

3218_discussions.jpg

11. Watching this guy climbing the stairs on his head was absolutely amazing. He seemed to be defying gravity - jumping up the steps.

3219_discussions.jpg

12. I should have put this with my photo essay on Chinese kids.

3220_discussions.jpg

13. This is one of the Zhengzhou University buildings. The university is only a short walk from my home. I have been asked to lecture there to English language students, but I prefer to give private lessons.

3221_discussions.jpg

14. This is in preparation for a traditional wedding ceremony. Before the ceremony many firecrackers are lit to scare off the bad spirits and usher in good fortune. The cannons fire confetti. Traditional wedding ceremonies are usually held in a banquet hall.

15. Students training at Zhengzhou University. Hey kid - get out of there!

Buzz,

Have you the opportunity to self-publish these in book form?

I'd buy a copy.

Excellent Buzz, and I enjoyed the captions with each photo.

The bare tree is really an interesting photo. I have a photo book entitled ''Over China'' with photos from the air. Really an amazing book, but your photos have a lot more ''human'' in them.

Appreciated, A.Mac, but I wouldn't know where to start. As well, I'm not really satisfied with the quality of many of them. The sharpness and clarity is missing, and either it's my camera or the way I have it set. I was spoiled when I used a borrowed Leica M3 back in the early 70s and could blow up slides on a 5' screen and not lose the razor's edge sharpness.

A tripod is usually the best defense against blurred images -- but rather cumbersome after a long day of shooting.

Again, I see some poster image possibilities but would not create any derivatives without your expressed consent.

I consent, I consent, but if you can sell any of them I want a small percentage.

I'm placing my order now, but it has to be a 1st edition and signed by Buzz and Mac.

If I sell any they will appear with a combined and you would get 50% after I subtract my tax liability from the sale total. If you like, the will read A. Mac/Buzz or, my family/professional name and however you wish yours to appear.

I hope to being creating derivatives today and those I think have sale potential will be uploaded to my marketing site and posted here on NT.

Does that meet with your approval?

One possible glitch regarding marketing the physical sizes of the images are too small one parameter need be at least 8" @ 300dpi and larger is better. But for posting on NT, the sizes are fine.

Your suggestion is approved (and much appreciated). The photos are taken with a much larger pixel count, and then reduced for the purpose of posting on the internet. If you want I can re-size the ones you like but may only be able to load one or two on each email. You've seen a lot of my photos - tell me which ones you would like me to send.

However, I don't intend to register for income tax purposes in the USA and hope that doesn't cause you a problem. What a dreamer I am - to think that I could make enough to be liable for income tax.....29.gif

I sent two to your NT home page using the small files. I will go through all of the photos and put the ones I think could be marketed there as well.

If you could send one at-a-time to my personal e-mail, the specs being at least one side (length or width) being 8" or larger and @300dpi (jpeg file format), I will try and create derivatives for sales purposes and give you the url to my website as I post them.

I'll pay any/all taxes on sales and send you a check amounting to a fair percentage.

In the meantime, if you like, post the two I sent on NT.
