China - a Retrospective View by Buzz
China - a Retrospective View by Buzz
You may have seen some of these before - it is a review of photos I have taken in China over the past 8 years (Only exception - I didn't take the one of me at the Great Wall). They are in no particular consecutive order.
1. Lanterns in Chongqing, my wife's home town
2. A necklace in the making. I got 3 of those pearls
3. Climbing the Great Wall during a cold snowless December
4. A glass designer in Chongqing's Old Town
5. Peonies, the national flower of China, taken during the Peonie Festival in Luoyang
6. Advice for the unappreciative
7. Chongqing at night
8. The Taliban won't get to blow up these
9. Contrasts - traditional and modern in LongHu (Dragon Lake). If you look carefully you can see someone sitting on the bank fishing in the centre of the photo.
10. Luoyang Geological Park
11. Cruising the Li River through the famous karst mountains.
12. Mountaintop near Luoyang
13. A small hotel in LongHu
14. Diorama in the Three Gorges Dam Museum, Chongqing
15. Statue in a Kaifeng park of man playing a zither
16. A canal in Souchou, known as the Venice of China
17. A stone house at the Longmen Grottoes near Luoyang
18. Outdoor hardware sales in LongHu village
19. When I first saw her I thought: Finally, someone older than me. (maybe poorer too) LOL
My computer would not accept any more photos so I will post more another day.

When I came to China 8 years ago, already in my late 60s, I knew I was headed for a new adventure, something like Bilbo Baggins in Lord of the Rings, but what I've seen and experienced has gone beyond my expectations.
Great photos Buzz, thank for posting them.
BTW, you look quite dapper in your Greek fisherman's cap.
I bought it at a seafaring store on Fisherman's Wharf, San Francisco, almost 30 years ago. It was quite unusual being a grey colour, and it's warm. I must have been asked at least 20 times when I was wearing it where I had bought it or if I would sell it to them. One guy was with his girl friend whom I really liked, and I told him I would only trade it. He asked what I wanted in a trade, and I told him "Her". He liked the hat so much he almost did it - and I think she might have liked to do it too. Unfortunately he decided to keep her.
The hat finally wore out and fell apart - after about 25 winters.
Wonderful photos!
China is near the top of my list of places I'd like to be able to visit someday.
What a lovely selection of photos, Buzz. China looks like an amazing place to visit. Thanks for sharing!
I was going to post the last 11 photos that my computer did not allow me to input, but quite frankly, since this article will soon be pushed off the front page, and out of around 760 members only 3 have commented on them (and I'm not looking for compliments, just acknowledgements that they have been viewed) I've decided it's not worth the time and effort.
I would like you to know, flame, that I very much appreciate your comment and advice - I will try to do as you suggest with my photos. In previous presentations, not just about China, but other photo presentations I write greater commentary. For example, if you've not seen it yet, here is an example concerning classic cars (although the photos are not mine), one that is a kind of internet photography seminar on using colour and B&W depending on what you are trying to present (using my own photos), and finally one on classic wooden boats (again not my photos):
Okay, you've given me the impetus to post the last 11 photos (and maybe few more).
That would have been quite the trade Buzz.
25 winters, that's more than most relationships last.
I wonder what the girl would have looked like 25 years later - she could have fallen apart as well.
Maybe I should have posted this article in A.Mac's Photography group instead of on the front page.
I can't wait to show these pictures to my son! He's home sick today and these will really cheer him up!
Thanks so much for posting these, Buzz! They are great pictures and they tell a lot about the China we dream of...
Absolutely beautiful Albert - beautiful
Please keep posting them! These are a breath of fresh air on an otherwise nasty front page!
These were really great pictures! I especially liked the ones from Longhu and Luoyang. Thanks for posting!

(Matthew is my son, Buzz. He LOVED your pictures!)
Your usual, outstanding, mega-interesting photo essay!
I can envision several of these as art posters.
Great idea A. Mac.
Albert?
Thanks everyone. I was really wondering for a while if anyone cared.
I always love strolling through China with you! There seems to be so much to see, mind boggling history and amazing color everywhere. Thanks for sharing these.
I would be curious about which ones you would choose to posterize, A.Mac. I would like to see these 3 posterized: Lanterns, Chongqing at night, and the museum diorama, but of course you're a better judge as to which would be best.
With your permission, I will see what I can do and send the results to you via NT messaging.
I feel that way sometimes too....
Yeah. I know the feeling.
These were some magnificent photos . Thanks for posting them . Apparently Chongqing does not suffer the air pollution of some of the more industrial cities .
Chongqing is known as being one of the three "furnace" cities in China - it gets hot as hell. It's called the Mountain City, the Misty City, and when I was there for almost a month in June it rained for all but 3 days.
For those who are interested, and not too obsessed with political debate, the ME or Ebola, continuation of this series is now posted on NT at this link:
We have a more direct method which I prefer to use.
OK. Watch for something very soon.
