'Fat is not a bad word': Teen accuses Instagram of size discrimination after her account was removed for underwear selfie

A 19-year-old college student from Ohio is accusing Instagram of size discrimination after her account was removed following a photo she took of herself in a bra and boy shorts.

Samm Newman, who is U.S. size 24, told NBC4i that the modest polka dot underwear covered her in the image, adding: 'I've seen [lingerie] pictures like that all over Instagram.'

Instagram, which has guidelines against sharing photos that show nudity, removed Miss Newman's account for 'violating community guidelines', but the social media platform has since apologized, saying it ' wrongly removed content and worked to rectify the error as soon as we were notified'.

Why do girls, any size, think it is OK to post pictures for the world to see of themselves dressed so immodestly? Heaven help us, I don't even want to know what the next generation will do to try to shock their parents!

There really does seem to be a big change in societies values amongst teens and "twenty-somethings". The idea of "privacy" seems to be disappearing. There are pictures posted not only of being half undressed-- but also total nudity, even pictures of themselves having sex. Then they send them to "friends'-- and the next thing you know they are all over the Internet.

Very strange, IMO.

Immodestly Jennilee? Just how many years do you wish to push women back?

The early 1800's?

With the introduction of railways in the early 1800s, the seaside emerged as a popular destination for vacationers from all classes. Still, modesty ruled the Victorian era, and ladies would wade onto the beach in bathing costumes made of serge or flannel, some with weights sewn into the hem to keep the garment from floating up and revealing too much leg!

I'm not really seeing anything immodest about this young women's post.

Heck with America's obsession over body image I find her post very brave for this time and place, especially for one so young and of her gender.

Hang strong young Ms. Newman.

It's not the outfit that is disturbing ... it's the second set of boobs hanging over her waistline. Someone needs to learn something about nutrition, portion control and exercise.

Well, in all fairness-- some eople do find a more "substantial" female body type to be attractive.

Um, I believe there is quite a bit of difference between Victorian dress and a bra and underwear. I don't think I am pushing women back to the olden days by thinking they that they should not post pictures in their underwear. Bu5 maybe I am a bit old fashioned.

Thosecontestants placingsecond, third and fourth offered 'big-boned', 'ample', and 'Rubenesque'.

Yup-- I've heard those.

Another one I just remembered: "volupuous". IMO that and "Rubenesque" sound appealing-- but I guess seeing is believing. And of course it depends what you likeGrin.gif

Oh-- and this one is popular in some circles: "BBW". ("Big Beautiful Woman").
