One time I hope to get the wing spread with the rest of the body in good focus. It requires a particular strategy and a series of settings, but make no mistake, to get such a shot requires some luck which is why we don't see many like it.

In the first photo the Cardinal looks like he just elected a Pope and he's not happy about it.

Note the puff of white smoke behind him you may be on to something.

Also flighty.

4144_discussions.jpg?width=721 And here's why.

4145_discussions.jpg?width=721 It's amazing what some people will do for a Pop Tart.

They actually were Pop Tarts too Mac. Whenever the grandkids have them for breakfast, I have them throw out uneaten parts onto the lawn, instead of in the trash. The Sparrows love them. The Robins prefer worms and don't come quite as close.

Plus some Doves that hang around.

Still trying to get a good shot of the Hawks that hunt over the town. They're always a couple of hundred yards away, though, and my zoom lens isn't quite up to getting what I'm after. This is about the best I've been able to get so far.

4148_discussions.jpg?width=721 Did get a couple of nice flower shots, though.

TTGA,

The hawk-like bird is actually a Turkey Vulture.

The flowers in full-frame are exceptionally fine.

The hawk-like bird is actually a Turkey Vulture.

Were they? Hard to tell from a distance. We have a number of vultures around too. Some of the ones I see must be hawks, though. I've never heard of a vulture that would take a rabbit, and we've had several that have been taken, one from right between two guys who were standing across a hedge from each other talking. They hadn't seen the rabbit hiding under the hedge, so it startled the hell out of them. One second they weren't even aware that the rabbit was there and the next second the bird had it and was climbing out.

I really liked the shots I got of the flowers. The village has them in planter boxes all along Main Street and it's easy to get close up shots. The red one had several flowers in the shot, taken at about 14". I cropped it to just the one and increased the focus on the computer. Came out really nice.

The shot of the Dove was taken with maximum zoom while it was sitting on the garage roof about 30 feet away. It would be better if I could get closer, but the Doves around here are wary and won't let you get very close. As long as there's food in place, the Sparrows just don't give a damn.
