Whats everyone watching????
I wanted a fun thread or seed to see what everyone enjoys watching, whether its Netflix, Hulu, or regular TV.... My hubs is mad that I'm still paying for hulu, but I watch it and I've been waiting for "Castle Rock" to start airing. Others on hulu would be the "Handmaidens Tale" and "The Path". Netflix, I'm currently watching "Rectify". I think I may stop paying for cable since we only watch a handful of stations, but on regular tv, I enjoy, "The Simpsons" and "Impractical Jokers", of course we watch OAN, Fox, and MSNBC just to get a good news balance. Does anyone here have any favorites or suggestions? Be nice, this is not a politics thread. I don't mind veering off topic as long as its civil. Y'all behave!!!!
So, I started today watching "Castle Rock" on Hulu. Starts off with Shawshank. Anyone else watching?
Oh, good! I was waiting for that to start.
There's a show starting soon (third season) that I can't wait for and it's called "Man in the High Castle". The third season starts in October.
Friday it's "Orange is the New Black" sixth season. Right now I'm not watching anything but "Colony". I finished "The Handmaid's Tale" last week.
I was only on the 3rd epi of Handmaidens in the 2nd season. I'm not allowed to watch without my daughter LOL
I have to catch up! "Castle Rock" started today. I've been waiting since November for this!!!
I think I have that show saved, but I haven't watched yet. "Man in the High Castle". I guess it's good I'll check it out!
We tried OITNB but I couldn't get passed the first few epis..... I may pick it up again when no one is home to distract me :-D
I didn't realize that "Castle Rock" had started.. I was waiting for that.. and how cool with it starting off at Shawshank. I have to say that I love "11/22/63", which is also on Hulu and also a King story. It had the perfect ending.
"Man in the High Castle" is da bomb. I remember reading the book years ago, and loved it. The series does it justice.. unlike most. Thanks for the heads up about the Oct release. I was wondering what was taking so long... kind of like "GOT" and "Sherlock". You could be dead before the next season comes out.
Just finished "Handmaids Tale". Bleak to say the least, but loved the ending. Also just finished "West World". That was intense. But it had one of the best indian eps I have ever seen. Entirely spoken in Lakota with subtitles and it really honored their way of life.
Still watching "Colony" and "The 100" and just finished "The Expanse" got to say that is a great series... Yes I am a Sci-Fi Junky. At least the hubby and I can watch the same TV shows, LOL.
My dirty secret is "Younger". I guess I just get it. Matt doesn't mind it. Says it's not horrible like reality TV.
btw.. years ago when I was still on NV I wrote an article, "Confessions of a TV Addict"... seems much has not changed, LOL!
I quit watching the 100 mid 2nd season, I need to check out the others you mentioned. I am only on epi 3 of 11/22/63. Rectify on Netflix is really good!
USA network cancelled Colony, I'm so pissed!!!
I think it's on Netflix. I'm pretty sure I added it to my list.
What?!?!? I've been watching it since May on USA!
I really like 11/22/63. That ending was the right fit for that show
I just searched Wiki. Yep. They canx Colony. There had better be an ending to it. USA canx another series I watched last year called "Incorporated". It was good.
USA has gone to nothing but re-runs of Suits, Law/Order:SVU and Harry Potter
Thanks for the 411 lady in black. That sucks.
Agreed Trout. There better be a good ending to this series.
Falling Skies did a great job of wrapping up the series. Worst wrap up of course goes to "Lost" although "Medium" was pretty damn awful, too.
"The Last Ship" is doing one last season, but I they knew ahead of time and so I do expect a wrap up of that one.
"The Expanse" is amazing. The firs season is a little slow, but after that, such a good story with great characters. They were going to cancel it but a huge write in stopped that from happening and now because of that, their viewership grew.
I will check it out, thanks!!!
I thought the Last Ship was done...I guess I better do some catching up.
I'm ambivalent about Lost. I got the ending but I think it could've been done better
Ok...I think you talked me into giving The Expanse another try.
Trout, you will not regret it. I hated it at first, and Matt talked me into it and now I am glad he did.
Kind of like reading "Contact". I could barely make it through the first third of the book and then was glad that I did.
You took the words right out of my mouth GaJenn78.
I was going to immediately comment CASTLE ROCK!
I caught Episode 6 Wednesday, the Filter. I literally gasped at the end.
I just cannot wait for next weeks' episode.
After watching the first episode - I asked one of my co-workers - do you like Stephen King? Yes. Do you have Hulu? Yes. I told her she had to check out Castle Rock. Now she and her daughter are hooked.
I've always enjoyed Stephen King since I was a teenager. I don't like all of his books and all of his movies, I have 't read all of his books or seen all of his movies, but I'm hooked, hooked, hooked, on Castle Rock.
I am picking it back up today. So far I love it! I'm on epi 4, I had to take a small break to get my girls back in school and finish up my school, and start the job hunt ( and the waiting game LOL). I can not wait to see what is in store
Eagerly awaiting the next season of "The Crown". It's really the only reason I keep my Netflix subscription.
Oh yeah, that one, too. I forgot to include that on my list. Thanks Sandy!
SAME!!!!! I just finished season 2!
I'm on Dish, no other pay services. My go to channels are, in ordr, The Discovery Channel, Velocity, History Channel, Paramount, FX. Generally, if it isn't on those, I don't really want to see it anyway.
I remember watching TLC when I was pregnant with my oldest girl, that was still "the learning channel". I use to watch surgeries, a baby story and all kinds of stuff. It has now become a hot mess of reality tv crap. We still watch discovery I also like OANs sister station AWE.... pretty cool stuff on there. One of my faves was watching the Smithsonian channel, "Arial America" was my favorite, but then they added "Arial Africa". I no longer get that channel
I have Directv, but I think as soon as my contract runs out, I'll probably cancel it. I used to love TLC, Discovery, NatGeo, the History Channel, A&E, and Bravo but they all suck now, so I don't watch much TV. BBC America, usually, and that's it.
BBC use to have a show on called "How Clean is your House?" It was the best!!!! I miss regular TV LOL
I watched that a few times.
Then those ladies said dishes should be washed, dried, and put away promptly at the end of every meal, and I knew they had to be crazy
Made me get up and clean my house though LOL!!!
Has anyone seen Geralds Game on Netflix? I think I'm about to watch it
I read the book a long time ago. I wasn't crazy about it, tho
I haven't read the book, but I heard it was intense. I'll report back in a bit LOL. I like Stephen King, but I have only read a handfull of his stuff. Deloris, Misery, Desperation and the book before it(I CANNOT remember the name of it!), I think I saw Pet Cemetery ( but only bits and pieces of it). My dad was a huge fan of SK
I was a big fan when I was younger. And then....well...I found GoT. LOL!
My favorite SK book is "The Stand". Best. Book. Ever.
It's on my list! Thank you Trout!!!
The uncut version. Agreed-the best.
I'm on the fence about that.. Loved "The Stand", loved "Pet Cemetery".. of course Shawshank.
I used to read a lot.. but then I got NT and not so much anymore.
There are two versions of The Stand. King had the longer version released despite the objections of his publisher.
I have the longer version on my book shelf. Might be time to dust it off and read it again. I really liked the extended version a lot
I have never read it, think I will add it on my Kindle
The Stand is one of my favorites also. Did you read both - the first version of the Stand had a lot taken out of it but later Stephen released another version and put all the stuff that was edited out, back in.
Oh, yeah. That big ol' book is taking up at least 25% of one shelf on my book stand
OK, before I hang it up for the night.... That movie was INTENSE!!!! WOW! Not creepy scary, they added a few BS things, but OK. They really could have done without the added crapola, and it was just a couple times, so it didn't really ruin the movie. I wouldn't pay to go see it in a theater , good movie tho
Ok...now I have to watch it. You convinced me.
Yay! Report back when you are done and let me know your thoughts!!!! It wasn't horrible, I bet the book was better though.
I also have to ask.... what is with SK and eclipses?
Y'all be nice.... I will check in but think I'm going to dip my toe in this movie
DON'T Y'ALL MAKE ME COME BACK IN HERE!!!
Dear Friend GAJenn78: When we are home, Saturday night is Netflix night for Mrs. E. and myself.
For decades, we always set aside one night per week to tune out the world.
We started as a couple.
Closing on three quarters of a century we need quality alone time to be a couple.
To enjoy a quiet candle light dinner with soft music, aromatic candles and savory fare.
Then on to Netflix for our weekly cinema.
Movie types, like titles vary week by week.
The constant is that this is our time.
One night a week, the world can wait.
We need to be us.
After the flick we share nice cups of fresh brewed coffee or tea.
A square of high cocoa chocolate.
A time to connect through communication.
Worked then.
Works now.
Will work for such time as we have left together.
We believe in being there for others.
That is better done when we can have just a few hours alone with each other per week.
Peace and Abundant Blessings to You and Yours.
Enoch.
Any suggestions? So, you and your wife "netflix and chill" It's really sweet! Hubs and I do the same Thank you
Its a great way to just relax after a long day too, trying to find something is trying sometimes but still.... I put my feet up and he rubs them
75 years?
Congratulations!
I love a good love story!!! Congrats!!!!
A love true story that Fairy Tales are made of. May you and Mrs E. share many, many more such times together. (smile)
Dear Friends GAJenn78, Trout Giggles, Perrie and Raven Wing: I shared your posts of kindness and support with Mrs. E.
She was as moved by them as I.
We are most grateful for your uplifting expressions.
Thanks.
Peace and Abundant Blessings Always.
Enoch (and Mrs. E.)
Why don't we have a heart emoji? I will do this <3
Thank you for always your kind words! I'm going through a rough time and I appreciate them even when they aren't aimed at me
Dear Friend GAJenn78: Distressed to hear you are gong through a rough patch.
A place sooner or later we all visit.
Through site private not, then personal email I am always available to be supportive.
To provide such pastoral care as is requested.
To deliver this fully respecting values, beliefs and world view.
Always in complete confidence.
We are a community here.
We are to be the keepers of all our brothers and sisters.
Count on me to be here for you and yours, only when and as needed how desired.
Peace, Abundant Blessings and Better Times for You and Yours.
Onward and Upwards.
Enoch.
Great plans make for great love stories. Congrats on yours, Enoch!
Damn....it's summer and I like to spend my time outdoors. How am I going to watch all this TV?
Stay up till 3 am, LOL!
LOL!!!!
I get up at 3 AM...does that count?
I am waiting for the last season of GoT.
My niece got me to watch a series called 13 Reasons Why. I enjoyed it. It was unusual. There is a second season out now that I need to catch up on.
My girls love that show! I watch "Riverdale" with them too
We dumped the dish and this came out. I'm not a television watcher at all.
My wife OTOH will buy a series and binge watch the heck out of it. GoT is the one she is salivating for the season release and Walking Dead.
I just bought her the series up to date of Orange is the new black....she bitched because it wasn't spooky or gory...She works in a prison like she doesn't get enough??? Now she loves it.
I have never seen that show. I imagine it would be like the female version of OZ.
Actually, it's based on a true story and some of it is funny as hell!
My daughter's boyfriend who just finished his internship in psych at the women's prison at Rikers says he can't watch the show anymore... Day be really bat chit crazy.
And he's no wimp. He was in drug interdiction in the Coast Guard. He says he would rather be shot at then back with them.
OZ is really good. I finally got to see that entire series when we went to a streaming service and cut the cable.
Orange is nothing like OZ. It's good but not very violent like OZ was.
OZ is great (we are talking about the same one I hope), I cannot watch those guys in other roles after OZ!!! It just doesn't seem right and it kind of disturbs me LOL. LIke the bald guy is now doing Farmers insurance commercials but he was on a sitcom recently LOL. Weird to watch
We have to be talking about the same show, because I love those Farmer's commercials. And I love that guy as the psychiatrist on Law and Order.
And the "mahem" guy too! He cracks me up!!! I really love those commercials!
"mahem like me" ((((giggle))))
Hi Jenn - Thanks for creating great NT articles, because everyone can easily participate.
I don't watch much TV. No Hulu or Netflix ... just cable. I spend some time watching news on MSNBC, CNN, and Fox so I get a balanced perspective.
Since I like old movies, I enjoy watching the Turner Classic Movies station. This morning, I watched "The Unsinkable Molly Brown" (1964) for the first time. I'd seen snippets in the past, but I watched the whole movie today. I never knew that it was loosely based on the real life of a very courageous woman named Margaret Brown.
Thanks, Jasper!!! Just wanted to say hi to everyone and get away from the regular BS.
That's one channel I miss by getting rid of the sat dish. I love old B&W movies, Bogart, Cagney, Flynn, Crosby, Stewart and a whole bunch of lessor knowns.
I have many on DVD when I get nostalgic...especially during the holidays.
I'm waiting for Jimmy Stewart to come jumping at me from the screen..."See Look!! Zu-zu's petals! Just like every friggin' year"
Y'all, looks like everyone can be adults and behave. I'm gonna hang it up for tonight, and I will keep this unlocked since it looks like everyone can play nice Perrie, if things get crazy, and I don't think they will, but if any mods see any craziness, just lock it. Thank you everyone for a nice conversation!!!
I don't get into t.v. that much and I'm not a faithful "series" watcher unless it's Game of Thrones. I also got hooked on Deadwood when it was on. These days I'll commit to short series but not multiple seasons. Generally half way through the second season I'll get bored and drop off. Every once in a while I'll binge watch a show. Here's a couple I recently enjoy(ed).
Watched 1st season of Man in High Castle but it scared the shite out of me and depressed me.
hbo just announced they are going forward with a deadwood movie. A little nervous to see if it can live up to series, which is one of the best ever.
Yes, the series was nothing I had experienced before with regards to production. Great characters, solid stories and they didn't clean it up. Pretty raw.
Thanks for the heads up. I'll definitely look for it when it comes out. We can compare notes.
I would like to thank everyone who has contributed! It's so nice to have decent discussion. I will keep this open, and I'm around today. Y'all are great and it was really nice getting to know peeps better
I don't have a TV, and haven't had one for more than 15 years. But, I watch a lot of things I enjoy on the Internet with my computer. I have a large screen monitor so I can have full effect with the great dramas.
For the last two years I have been watching a lot of Korean, Chinese and Japanese dramas, the majority of which are about the history of the countries, how they came into being, their Kings & Queens, Emperors and Empresses, and the various languages and forms of writing, traditions and customs as they moved through the various centuries of their history.
For me, I have been able to see a level of similarities of these Asian countries to some of the Native American Tribes. As the root of origin of Native Americans genetics began from a common Mother in Asia, it does not really surprise me that there are some similarities that have been shared over the thousands of years between the Asians and Native Americans. No matter what paths of migration to America the various Tribes took, they all have retained various similarities throughout their evolution.
I also find it interesting how the various paths from Asia to America were crossed with people of other areas that has influenced the development and progress of the many Tribes here in the US, and of which are still shared among the various Tribes.
Having studies many of the Native American Tribes, their history, cultures, traditions, religious beliefs and migrations, it is interesting to see some of these same traits and similarities in the Korean, Chinese and Japanese histories.
I also enjoy watching Dancing With The Stars when it is on. (grin)
If you are specifically talking about TV, I don't have a lot to choose from here in China - there is an English language news station I rarely watch because the content is washed and dried before being shown, and virtually everything is pro-China (or else!!!!). At least there are a few channels that show English language movies although pretty well old ones: Forrest Gump, The Last Samurai, all the James Bond movies, a Woody Allen one I turned off almost immediately because I couldn't stand listening to his whiney voice, Pretty Woman, Endor's Game, Gravity, Indiana Jones and the Crystal Skull, and a couple more Indiana Jones movies. They actually showed a Buster Keaton silent movie yesterday. BFG (a kid's movie I actually enjoyed watching), Finding Private Ryan, The Longest Day, Fool's Gold, Chinatown, Pride and Prejudice and Zombies (I enjoy all the P&P movies except that one), but too many "B" movies and ones with much too much violence.
As for movies I can watch over and over again and not get tired of them, check out my latest article on the Everybody Loves Movies group.
Ok...I binge watched Orange is the New Black this weekend. Much more violent than previous seasons and I think this may have been the final season.
Also watched "Castle Rock" last week. Has anybody found the Easter Eggs?
I'm on the 2nd epi of Castle Rock. I need to pick it up when I can actually watch it. My girls go back to school on Wed (Woo Hoo!!!!!) and I had to study for my final that was today. Finally done with school!!!
Congratulations! on both you finishing school and your girls going BACK to school
So what did you study? Was it nursing? I thought I read that's what you were studying. I could be wrong. I've been wrong at least once today
Thank you! I did get accepted into nursing school and went for awhile, but withdrew from the program. I kinda freaked out. I realized I'd rather possibly screw up someone's insurance paperwork than their IV meds LOL. I changed my major to medical administration
I wouldn't be too sure on that paperwork. I needed surgery that got delayed by a month because of a paperwork screw up. LOL!
Damn! I'm sorry about that. I won't be that person, I promise. I just realized that I'm really good at admin but still wanted to be in the medical field without killing someone LOL
Season 2 epi 11 of Handmaidens Tale! Y'all! this is intense!
I'm just seeing this thread now. If I had seen it weeks ago I would have commented then.
No prob! I was going to lock it since it hasn't had much traction in a few days, but decided it was a fun thread and to leave it open because people would probably finish up a series or start a series and want to share their thoughts. Glad you found it .
"Outlander". Time travel, sexy men in kilts. What's not to love?
