Will Trump Appeal For Unity In His Acceptance Speech Tonight ?
The media, newly acclimated to fawning over Donald Trump in the wake of him being shot in the ear, have unanimously concluded that a kinder gentler Trump will take the stage in Milwaukee tonight to call for national unity.
I think that is semi-likely because his campaign managers have persuaded him there will be political advantage in doing so. But true to his own ways where he often says or implies two things at once , I think he will try and split the difference between being 'magnaminous' toward those who "hate" him and throwing his MAGA audience the red meat he spews at his lunatic rallys.
Trump has a lead in the polls, although I think it is less than he believes based on what I saw on Real Clear Politics yesterday, but I am sure he thinks that he needs to continue his confused and confusing rants and raves in order to keep the base on razors edge for the next three and a half months. The "unity" pitch will be for the temporary audience associated with the Republican convention. So he will talk vaguely about "unity" tonight , with the focal point of the "unity" being his achievements and proposals, in other words, "the American people need to unite..... around Trump".
The subservient national media will rejoice and proclaim that Trump is showing he is a new man. I suspect this new pose will last until , well, his next rally or his next "truth" on his social media site Truth Social. Lets be real, 36 hours after the shooting he was on social media calling Biden, Democrats and all of his enemies (including our judicial system) "communists".
Although the speeches at the convention so far have largely avoided any mention of the 2020 election having been stolen from Trump, the speaking appearance of Peter Navarro, most known for illegally scheming to put Trump back in office prior to Jan 6, shows that the "stop the steal" mentality is still at the forefront of MAGA thought. Therefore Trump's main concession to "unity" tonight will be that he won't mention the 2020 election as having been stolen from him. But don't be surprised if he works the same theme into his remarks on the 2024 election. If anyone in the history of American politics has to have it both ways it is this guy.

The NBC coverage of the convention has been nearly gushing over the Republicans love fest (they love Trump of course) . It is fairly amazing to see Lester Holt and Savannah Guthrie spinning the roster of clueless and inept GOP speakers into a persuasive unit.
I havent watched the other channels, but I suspect they are all doing similar.
You do know that after talking with Joe Biden, Trump has already ripped up the prepared speech he was going to deliver tomorrow night.

Don't worry it won't last. This is just the temporary "oh shit" moment following the assassination attempt. The "we almost got the civil war we have been predicting for the last eight years; but never really thought would happen" affect. It will wear off as the election date nears; and Trump has even a remote possibility of winning. The he will be "Hitler, Nazi, Fascist, and destroyer of all America" again.
