This wasnt a tremendously dramatic confrontation but think it does show us that these celebrity politicians are not really as safe all the time as we may assume they are.
No one should ever confront anyone in a restaurant, and I include that incident a few years ago when some activists harassed , I think it was Sarah Huckabee, outside or inside a restaurant.
It does happen every now and then.
Sometimes celebrities bring a big, muscular type body guard with them when they go out.
I would imagine it happens more with the most famous ones . . .
AOC has always been more of an empty-headed celebrity than a serious and intelligent politician. Being harassed and criticized comes with the territory if someone is a controversial public figure. I believe that Huckabee was denied service.
I don't like AOC at all but this shit is just stupid.
This is America, though, where politicians are fair game even amongst themselves.
Doesn't make it right, it just is.
I agree completely .
but AOC mocks others when the Same things happened to them, so not a lot of sympathy for her.
Leftists eating their own.
Seems one of AOC's "Chickens have come home to roost".
How so?
Aw c'mon-- it wasn't that type of restaurant!
Odd person to protest at. AOC strongly supports Palestine.
People should not be bothered when they are eating in a restaurant
While I don't agree with AOC's vision or politics, no one who considers themselves part of a democratic process should do this sort of thing. If that is something one feels they must do, wait until they exit the restaurant, confront her at a meeting or maybe try to get an appointment to see her to express one's views.
Observationally, AOC seems to have had the same tactic she uses against others used on herself. This protester, or activist or whatever the term would be, tried to shame AOC into a course of action he desired. He reduced a complex issue into one unrealistically simplistic denominator for the purpose of making it seem as if she is or would be responsible unless she takes the protester's desired course of action.
AOC is an odd choice as a target for the protester, though, as she supports the Palestinians. Apparently, this protester feels she is either simply pretending or, more likely in my opinion, not doing enough for the Palestinian cause. I wonder what he expects AOC to do, exactly? I wish she had had the presence of mind to ask the man that question. The answer might have been interesting. I expect the man expects her to foment riots and other disruptions until he gets what he wants. Pretty much like all the protesters that support the Palestinians. They want support for their actions from those in government they deem as supposed to be on their side, I think. And when they don't get it, this sort of thing happens.
AOC should not be surprised. This is exactly the kind of person her rhetoric is aimed at. People who tend toward extremism, and why I hope whoever this guy is is on a watchlist somewhere. I think this is exactly the kind of person that can be radicalized into violent courses of action because they believe the "rightness" of their cause justifies whatever they feel necessary to achieve their goals.
Lastly, I wonder if this man knows that the Muslim countries in the Middle East are killing more of their own kids than Israel is by far. I wonder if he would even care? Muslim countries aren't Israel, after all, and that's really the only difference. Kids dying are kids dying, after all, so the fact that this involves Israel must be the only reason this guy cares.
