Joe Biden Issues Pardon To His Son Hunter
Joe Biden is expected to announce a pardon for his son Hunter for any or all crimes he was convicted of.
If Trump were not such a prick who got away with everything I doubt Biden would have taken this step.
Now he should issue preemptory pardons to everyone Trump is planning to go after in the DOJ and FBI.

To MAGA who will complain about this ----- fuck off.
"Nobody fucks with a Biden."
Even when Biden is on record as saying he would not give Hunter a presidential pardon.
Guess he changed his mind.
Since it’s pretty much a personal issue and doesn’t affect the rest of us, I’m having a hard time caring. It’s like he’s “on record” saying he would have the fish for lunch, but had the steak instead. Who cares?
Yes it is disappointing when a PotUS makes a pledge and then violates the pledge. Although given Trump's almost certain abuse of the DoJ I would imagine fatherly love preempted duty and integrity in this instance. Hard to blame the guy IMO.
I wish the American people really did care about presidents who lie. Especially if they cared about the volume and importance of the lies.
It’s disappointing if that pledge is something that actually impacts the American people.
See: “read my lips, no new taxes.”
Or, for that matter, “So we’re gonna build the wall. It’s gonna be a great wall, and it’s gonna be paid for by Mexico. Believe me – 100%, 100%. We’re not paying for it. Mexico is paying for it. Believe me.”
Or, “we will immediately repeal and replace Obamacare.” Those are pledges that actually impact the people’s lives.
Biden’s choice to pardon or not pardon his son - especially for these particular crimes - does not affect any of us. So, if he changed his mind or even if he always intended for his son not to do time, I really don’t much care.
It’s more disappointing to me to watch sanctimonious conservatives pretend they give a shit about the pledge or justice being done, or even the crimes he committed - especially in light of the Trump mafia they just voted for.
That plan is rolling out in 2 weeks.
For real, this time.
Maybe he forgot he said he wouldn't pardon him
Plausible
It is disappointing only with regard to a PotUS making a public promise and then going back on his word. This case is, I agree, not a big deal. But it is still disappointing.
Further, I do not blame Biden (as I noted) given the circumstances. Trump's DoJ is most likely going to match the rhetoric that Trump used to falsely portray the extant DoJ. Biden's role of father naturally preempted his role of PotUS in this case. Understandable.
Absolutely!
What circumstances are we talking about, the 21 million, the failure to pay the taxes, the failure to register as a foreign agent, the denying the pay for play, him stating that he would not pardon Hunter, or is it to protect Obama?.
When I was growing up there were two things I was taught. "Your word is your bond" and "Have trust in public officials". If I give my word on something I make every effort to keep even to thos day.. I taught my kids and my grandkids that. Trust in public officials is another matter entirely that is a fading archaic concept of the past. Biden said he would not pardon his son and then went back on it. In my view, that's just another example of his breaking faith with the American people like he has done the last four years.
Per a CNN panelist, Trump is going to have firing squads, so pardoning Hunter is justified.
The insanity is so deep on the left I don't know how it can fixed.
Kind of goes hand in hand with "Don't make a promise you can't keep".
You have to give it to the left, they a creative (delusional) imagination and we wonder why there were two attempts on Trumps life.
Yep.
I think most people support that as a general philosophy. I certainly do. But here’s the thing about promises: They matter only if someone relies on them. In contract law, we call it “detrimental reliance.” Basically, you give something up - money, time, etc. - in exchange for fulfillment of the promise. With politicians, we give up our vote, or maybe even just our hope.
I don’t believe there is a single person in this country who was relying on Biden to not pardon his son. It’s not like anyone was going to vote for him because of it. No legislation deals were cut in response to this promise. His promise to not pardon Hunter was therefore meaningless, as was his ultimate decision to do it anyway.
By contrast, Trump has made many promises that people have relied on by voting for him because of those promises. Just as in his professional career, he has a poor track record when it comes to keeping promises people rely on. I therefore find it absurd that people who support Trump are today wringing their hands at Biden for making and breaking this particular promise, which affected no one in the country but his son. There was no “bond” made or broken here. No one placed “trust” in Biden based on this promise.
Now, look, every politician breaks promises at some point, but if this is the worst Biden has done - it certainly has inspired the most angst from the Right - then he’s doing great.
Or won't keep.
I don't blame Biden for doing it, because, after all, didn't Trump already say he would pardon the Jan 6 rioters? Trump would probably have pardoned Osama Bin Laden if he had supported him.
Interesting logic. Trump said something so Biden should pardon his son
Oh, I see, so you think that Biden should have waited until Trump was PotUS so he could carry out his promise. Now THAT is logical, isn't it.
Biden should have been honest all along, never taking the pardon off the table and then pardoning him as an act of a fathers love for his son and leaving but but but Trump out of it. That is logical
You say that Biden should have been honest yet you support Trump?
Yes and no. But nice deflection attempt.
A surprise to nobody. He told us he wouldn't. His last lie.
Of course, trumpists would see it as nothing but a 'lie' (to be exploited). Told y'all. It's already beginning. . . .
Lies matter to you when it is a D PotUS but not when it is an R PotUS?
I am disappointed that Biden did not hold true to his word (never should have made the promise). But given the DoJ that Trump seems to be creating, this move seems inevitable.
All politicians lie, Vic, please tell me you aren't shocked given you support a guy that told over 30,000 lies in 4 short years.
To be fair to (some) politicians . . .the nature of their business requires them to withhold truth for purposes of secrecy (and away from the BIG-MOUTHS in the media that deliberately share to early or give out to others to leak), WISDOM, experience (with the truth used to do great harm), and (sigh) the political games that are manufactured from certain select facts being on the bargaining table ahead of consideration.
Gee, you were really counting on it, huh? Why?
'Sh-t-stirring.' Adding more of 'it' to the pot.
Hunter has been sober for a long time now.
I bought a gun or two back in the day when I was smoking pot.
Might have had a beer or two.
It was all about far right wing fascism going after Hunter
So glad his father pardoned him.
Hunter didn't do anything lots of us didn't do.
Damn glad my name is not Biden!
WASHINGTON — President Joe Biden has decided to issue a pardon for his son Hunter and is expected to announce it Sunday night, according to a senior White House official with direct knowledge of the decision.
The decision marks a reversal for the president, who has repeatedly said he would not use his executive authority to pardon his son or commute his sentence. The pardon comes ahead of Hunter Biden’s Dec. 12 sentencing for his conviction on federal gun charges. Hunter Biden also is set to be sentenced in a separate criminal case on Dec. 16, after pleading guilty in September on federal tax evasion charges.
The pardon is expected to cover both Hunter Biden’s gun charges conviction and guilty plea.
The senior White House official said Biden decided over this weekend to grant his son a pardon and began to inform his senior aides on Sunday.
Using his pardon power to assure Hunter Biden does not spend time in jail comes as the 82-year-old president is near the end of his term in the White House and has no future election to face. In recent months Biden has said he would not pardon his son or commute his sentence.
President Biden set to issue a pardon of his son Hunter Biden
Its a done deal. Finalized a few minutes ago.
Exactly. Any justification for the pardon based on Trump is an insult to Americans. Well objective critical thinkers anyway.
Critical thinkers are more involved with facts than this comment gives them credit. It's a lengthier process to get to a conclusion. Be aware of it.
Biden loves his son. There is no way he was going to let his son go to jail. Period.
He could have just made it the act of a lenient father. But in true Biden style, he had to spread conspiracies, undermine the rule of law and even subvert the integrity of his own DOJ.
LOL.
Honesty would have been better, and much easier to swallow.
LOL! Coming from Trump supporters that's frigging hilarious. They have spent the last several years spreading conspiracy theories, undermining the rule of law and simply denying that the DOJ has any integrity. That comment was truly dripping with hypocrisy.
Which Joe Biden just did and Democrats are fine with, revealing their "democracy is ending" hand wringing over Trump to be just performative partisan whining.
My comment regarded "critical thinkers" - not Joe, Hunter, or Donald. Such people are known for looking at the 'whole loaf' before forming cogent conclusions.
Incidentally, what Joe did for his son has been done out of passion (fear of the unknown), not logic alone.
Question one selves, for this ship has landed and all have come ashore now safe and sound ahead of the storm.
The most interesting thing to me about trumpists is they are not as interesting as even Trumpism is. It's a new party that is already showing signs of being played out ('old hat'). These are people going after what they want in a country while using any means necessary to win. It's okay to them to be all over the board with inconsistency and incoherence. In fact, let's not forget the chaos is the point. . . .only the 'ringleader' carries the main plan.
(I say that with caution too, but that does not take away from the truth of the matter.)
Perhaps they're thinking "If you can't beat 'em, Join 'em!"...
Of course, as soon as a Democrat does anything close to the unethical behavior Trump exhibits on a daily basis Republicans all scream to high heaven about ethics and morals which clearly only apply to Democrats.
This political 'warfare' has gone too far. All these wealthy and/or powerful people have time to do is fight above 'us' and we sit on our butts like 'dumb/numb nuts' rooting for a the teams that don't have the time to spend advancing the good of us all. This is evidence that this country is collectively going down!
"We" have all forgotten what matters!
It is time to fight both narratives- red and blue - which are politically killing those in the middle. Time for a shift in perspectives - right here; right now.
A single, tiny .38 caliber 5 shot revolver?
My sister is a drunk and owns an AR-15!
Hunter paid all of his tax bills.
It was only the far right that thought to fuck him over because of his father. Anybody else would have been ignored.
And Trump's thousands of lies continue to be ignored by all of his far-right wing fascist psychopaths.
owns an AR-15
it’s awesome to watch the “sensible gun control “ crowd argue that rich crack addicts should be able to lie in order to own guns consequence free, not to mention blame illegal Mexicans when they try to dispose of it next to a school.
Hunter paid all of his tax bills.
lol. No he didn’t.
The irony.
So in saying that, are you referring to anybody who did not vote Democrat for Kamala Harris?
I do understand why Joe Biden is doing this. However. . . .
This won't end well. This won't stop some conservatives from turning Hunter (and Joe) into tragic figure. They will 'exploit' this pardon by 'locating' a tragic figure or several (for proportionality) to call it 'balance.'
This will be one more reason for me to keep the volume down on my cable news channels more and longer in 2025-2028.
LOL. Trump is way past that. Trump is giving the middle finger to America. Good on Biden for meeting fire with fire.
I do understand. Just do not have the spirit for the hardball 'game' that some conservatives will (are going to deepen their) play! I already am 'done' with the cable news channels for blotching the reporting and commentary doing the last cycle. As a pragmatists, I can accept a great deal of BS as par for the course. . . but some in the media treating the truth as though it is fungible, entertainment, and 'personable' - has caused me to consider just reading the chyrons (since the election). Mental health is important at times like this.
"Trump is giving the middle finger to America."
Biden did the same thing to America the last four years and you whine about Trump doing it. Little hypocritical there.
And far right wing fascists continue to forgive Trump for his life of chronic crime and his life of compulsive lying.
Excellent. You know trump would pardon his kids.
Trump has already stated (in plain sight of everybody during his campaigning) that he will pardon whomsover gets in federal legal trouble with the law (on his behalf) when they execute on one of his orders.
Do you have a citation for that claim?
Would you be opposed to trump pardoning any of his kids? Of course not, you just don't like it because it's Biden. At least have the spine to admit it.
Here's who Donald Trump might pardon in his second term
Has Trump been put in the situation where he has to pardon his children?....
Sure...
The collective "you" is Welcome.
He got the citation he asked for. No thanks given. The content remains unacknowledged. This is how it goes around here.
Key word here, according to your link headline..............'might".
There are three links there. And Trump had every intention of pardoning those who carried out his bidding (then) as he most certainly plans to do it in the future. That was the main reason for running up to the conservative SCOTUS and pleading for 'relief' to have his 'ask' of officials to be declared OFFICIAL ACTS for which he, as president, can not be prosecuted. So now it is clear a sitting president intends to prosecute his perceived enemies (at his leisure) and pardon those who execute his orders doing so when they are accosted by the courts for having done so under question of legality.
It is shameful. Sad. Diseased. But this is the state of the once 'proud' GOP.
It doesn't even have to be close relatives like his children, Trump already proved he'd pardon even extended family.
Who Has Donald Trump Pardoned?
" Charles Kushner – Father of Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner , convicted of tax evasion and witness tampering, and recently nominated by Trump as the U.S.'s ambassador to France ."
Who Has Donald Trump Pardoned? Full List - Newsweek
You do realize that Charles Kushner went to prison and served his entire sentence, right? unlike the drug addict. plus he was convicted for illegal contributions to democrats, which I'm surprised most democrats even think is a crime.
The Trump nuts don't fall far from the tree.
Not surprised he did it, unless it was a violent crime I can't think of any father that wouldn't pardon a family member if he ever had the power. What did surprise me was that Joe ever made the promise to not pardon him to begin with. Everyone was pretty sure it was a lie if worse came to worst.
Wow, we agree.
Its a Saturnalia Miracle
I was drunk once when I bought a gun.
I shoot 1 moa with it these days sober.
Stopped drinking and smoking pot a few years ago.
In his official pardon, he says he thinks the prosecution was political. I think it’s impossible to not consider that aspects of this were an attempt to get at the president through his son. I certainly understand why he feels that was the case.
If it were my son, I think I would have handled this about the same. I would have let the process play out and then consider a pardon - and yes, because he’s my son. That would obviously be a factor.
As a citizen, I’m not bothered. It’s not like he promised not to raise my taxes and then raised my taxes. Nothing Hunter Biden has ever done has ever affected me. He’s not a public servant and he was convicted of victimless crimes. It’s only a big deal because of politics.
Not sure I buy that, if anything it seems like the original plea deal was politically motivated. To suggest it was politically motivated one would have to say he was not guilty of anything he was convicted of. Also don't forget the DOJ was Bidens
I would have pardoned him if he were my son and the crime was not violent also. What I would not have done is consistently tout that my son was not above the law and would not be pardoned. Not that it matters now but that is not a good look.
Agree
I think two things can be true. I think attention on this was politically motivated, and Biden alleges that political pressure changed a plead deal. I can’t say I followed the story enough to have an opinion one way or the other. Nowhere in his statement does Joe say Hunter was wrongly prosecuted or convicted. I think he would have been satisfied with the plea deal, and he may even have been willing to accept the new disposition.
But with all Trump’s talk about how he plans to use the Justice system, I imagine Joe envisions Trump reopening the case, pursuing revised, harsher sentencing, seeking new charges, and basically legally torturing Hunter just to aggravate Joe and the rest of the party.
It's a big deal, because some conservatives will NEVER-EVER let this president forget that he did it for his son. They care not about the 'passion' or the 'good.' This will be fodder they will use as 'capital' to spend every time they let a villain off through a pardon. It is the nature they have chosen for themselves to be hardliners and hardballers set against anything a liberal is and does.
D.C. is about to become the stupidest place in the country. People make just quit government in disgust: politically and citywide.
On the bright side Joe will probably soon forget he has a son.
Thank the collective you for 'caring.' /s
You are most welcome
Than Joe believes in conspiracy theories that would never, could never happen.
Which part of that do you think never happens?
Trump reopening the case, pursuing revised, harsher sentencing, seeking new charges, and basically legally torturing Hunter just to aggravate Joe and the rest of the party.
Hell. It was just a 5 shot .38.
He paid off his back taxes.
Trump's kids took more money from China illegally than Hunter did legally.
Far-right wing fascists just hate liberals making money.
You have that 100% wrong. we wish they would earn their own money and stop demanding the government take more of ours to support them.
Let's be clear, some conservatives get (or don't give in the first place) as much from the federal government as other citizens. And that includes Elon Musk. . . who has benefitted significantly from federal ASSISTANCE with his concepts and projects. (I could even imagine he will benefit even more so from the government largesse now that he is paling around with the president-Elect. when in officially in office.)
The people who need help from the government get the least at any given instance especially from some conservative 'power-brokers' in Washington, D.C.
How much do you think Elon and his companies have paid in taxes? How much have they just been given?
I don't get points for guessing. However, he is the world's richest man and by that comment is it implied that he is worth more to the nation than some others. . . . It begs the question: That he has needs he can afford to cover with his resources which others are 'demanded' to cover themselves with 'infinitely' less. The people who properly need help. .. some conservatives seek to deny (to the best of their abilities anyway) it to them.
Is it the 'job' of the federal government to only AWARD financial grants and support to "winners" (strict-father model) or to help its citizens to get the help they need to get off the 'bottom' where they struggle? (Rhetorical question.)
BTW, if Elon Musk is 'anything' like Trump he not only does not pay the proper amount of taxes on his businesses, but won't reveal his tax returns to the public (or congress willingly) for a 'lookit."
If you don't know, why claim he's been given more from the federal government than he and his companies have paid?
In 2022 for tax year 2021 Elon paid 11 billion is personal taxes, Lets talk about fair share shall we? and yet i have no doubt that someone who won't pay that much in 50 generations will somehow claim it isn't enough.
Since the collective you - "got game". . . show me where I stated he has been. . . 'given more from the federal government THAN. . . . " Please proceed. . . .
Financial windfall from EV regulations
But Tesla’s most significant financial support is not from tax credits for EV buyers. It comes from the sale of regulatory credits that other automakers buy to comply with state and federal regulations aimed at reducing greenhouse gases.
The money doesn’t come from taxpayers. But without the government regulation, there would be no billions flowing into Tesla’s coffers , and straight to its billion lines.
Those credit sales literally kept Tesla’s lights on, and its paychecks being cashed, in the company’s early days . They accounted for nearly 25% of its revenue in 2008 and 10% of its revenue over the course of the next five years.
Between 2008 and 2019, sales of regulatory credits generated more than $2 billion for the company.
Tesla might have died without those funds. Don’t take our word for it. Ask Musk himself.
In a tweet in 2020, Musk admitted that Tesla was nearly forced to file for bankruptcy as recently at 2019. The stock price had been floundering as the company had difficulty ramping up production of its Model 3 sedan.
“Closest we got (to bankruptcy) was about a month,” he said in the tweet. “The Model 3 ramp was extreme stress & pain for a long time — from mid 2017 to mid 2019. Production & logistics hell.”
Even when the threat of bankruptcy lessened, it wasn’t until 2021 that the company was able to post a profit without the help of credit sales.
In Tesla’s history, sales of regulatory credits have brought in nearly $11 billion , with all of it falling pretty much directly to its bottom line.
“If it didn’t have regulatory credits, Tesla would not be the brand it is around the globe and Musk wouldn’t be the richest person in the world,” said Ives, who is a bull on Tesla shares today. In 2019, he was still skeptical.
It quite obviously was.
I think John Fetterman has a point. (1st 2 minutes)
Now for a different perspective. Hunter Biden really, really, messed his father's presidency and legacy up. There was so much 'noise' surrounding Joe on behalf of his son. . . that it was almost hopeless to keep the president right-side up. Like 'waves' battering, ramming, and capsizing (to use a sea-faring metaphor). What this son did while being partially or more drug-induced or enhanced to his family before the world is (and will always be) morally wrong.
You obviously don't understand the Hunter thingy. The MSM played it for shock value.
Hunter Biden should be ashamed for how he as affected his father's legacy. . . but, I guess (sigh) a child should be allowed to NEGATIVELY IMPACT his president "Dad's" historical legacy by making him a liar in the waning days of his four years administration.
Biden's pardon for Hunter certainly puts the Democrats' resistance in a bind. Is this Joe's retribution for his party forcing him to quit?
No, he loves his son, so he pardoned him. Hunter was unfairly targeted by the right wing for YEARS.
How so? Give us all the details.
It does?
Joe Biden just told the world that the DOJ has become politicized. The inference from Biden's White House release is that DOJ and FBI needs to be reworked. Enter Pam Bondi and Kash Patel.
Joe Biden pardoned Hunter Biden for purely political reasons. Democrats may claim the pardon is justified but they can't attack Trump for issuing politically motived pardons and avoid being hypocrites.
To quote:
" No reasonable person who looks at the facts of Hunter’s cases can reach any other conclusion than Hunter was singled out only because he is my son – and that is wrong. " Trump has been saying much the same about investigations of him, his associates, and his family.
The question needs to be asked -- is Joe Biden taking retribution against the Democratic Party that forced him out? Is this Joe Biden's ' told ya so ' moment with Democratic leadership?
crazy how hunter Biden just happens to be the DOJ’s only politicized prosecution, per the Bidens
Yup, amazing how that works. Merrick Garland is now right-wing, too.
Yes. Because of the incoming administration. Not because of anything he did.
Purely political? You don’t think there’s any chance he pardoned his son because he loves him?
Are they though? They might be. Someone probably is, but I don’t see anybody here doing that. I see people saying they understand it, but I don’t see anybody saying Hunter was wrongly prosecuted or convicted. That is what Trump says about his own cases.
Notice in his statement that Biden never says Hunter shouldn’t have been prosecuted - only that attention was focused on him and he received harsher treatment than is typical because of political pressure that was brought to bear from outside the prosecutor’s office.
Trump doesn’t say that he or his associates did wrong and will accept a reasonable punishment. He says any and all prosecutions are wrong. That’s a little different.
Also, Trump was - and again will be - a public servant. The people around him who have been prosecuted were connected to that service as staff or advisors. Hunter has been very disconnected from his father’s presidency and campaign. So, when Hunter - or any other private citizen - commits a crime, I think he should be held accountable, of course, but beyond that, I don’t much care. When Trump commits a crime, a public trust has been violated, and the integrity of our highest office is compromised.
That’s why Republican efforts to equate these cases is so lame.
Really? So, the concerns over Hunter and Joe Biden peddling influence can just be swept under the rug and forgotten now. We can all pretend we're stupid and don't understand that prosecutors lean hard on lesser crimes to get evidence for bigger crimes.
Joe Biden has claimed all along that the Chinese only gave him money because they are nice people who think Joe is a swell guy. Biden loves his son so much that he never, ever discussed Hunter's business dealings. Biden keeping classified material in an office closet funded by foreign interests was just a gaff by a likeable old man with a poor memory. We've got a lot of circumstantial evidence that the Biden boys were selling out the United States. But now all is forgiven and forgotten. Hunter is forgiven and Joe is forgotten.
Ain't that just ducky. Quack, quack.
Those “concerns” have been out there for a long time. There has been ample opportunity to prosecute them if probable cause existed. Instead, they went after some gun paperwork and taxes.
Sure, but that didn’t happen here.
But not probable cause.
Being hypocrites has never stopped them before. I imagine they will double down on it.
It's not unusual to prosecute members of organized crime for tax violations and other seemingly minor violations.
Remember Paul Manafort? Manafort was convicted of tax fraud and failure to disclose information on required government forms.
Oh, yes, the circumstantial evidence does provide probable cause. But it is difficult to tease out adequate evidence to obtain a conviction for the types of lobbying and influence peddling the Biden boys engaged in. Organized crime is very good at covering tracks.
And the modern-day Spanish Inquisition is born. Anyone actually who thinks the DOJ will be less corrupt, partisan or political after those two partisan right wing conservative fuck nuggets get a hold of it should have their heads examined.
Democrats: THe DOJ is corrupt and engaged in a political prosecution of Hunter Biden.
Republicans: Let's clean up the DOJ
Democrats: How dare Republican suggest anything that should be changed at the DOJ! Democracy is over if you suggest the DOJ engages in political prosecutions!
K$h Patel stated something. . . illuminating in a past interview that bears special attention: As FBI director he would investigate and try to run up high legal costs on media heads and specific newsy types. . . Anne Applebaum wrote a book about something similar where in autocratic 'dogma' this technique is used to get certain media heads to step down and even go so far as sell off their enterprises and leave the country.
I hope we have some brave and courageous media people who can stand the persecution. . .and a 'word' to trumpists. . . payback can be a 'motherf—'!
Not. Here is the more realistic representation of that:
Republicans: The DOJ is corrupt because it's trying to prosecute Donald Trump!
Democrats: The DOJ is NOT corrupt as witnessed by the prosecution of Hunter Biden.
Republicans: Let's clean up the DOJ!
Democrats: No cleaning necessary.
Biden: Lost the nomination, Democrats lost the election, I'm going to pardon my son because Republicans made Hunters case political and even though he did what he was accused of, as his father I'm in a position to pardon him without any political consequences to me or my family because I'm done with this shit! So long fuckers!
Except by Biden's statement, he agrees that the DOJ is corrupt and had been overtaken by partisan politics. How else could Republicans in Congress exert so much influence over a supposedly non-partisan office like the DOJ?
The discussion on this has fallen on obvious partisan lines.
He never says the DOJ is "corrupt", he said he believed Hunter was "unfairly prosecuted". He say's the "charges in his cases came about only after several of my political opponents in Congress instigated them to attack me and oppose my election" which was true, there was no big push to prosecute to the "fullest extent of the law" until Republicans in Congress and rightwing media shone a light on it in an attempt to smear Joe Biden, they clearly didn't actually give a shit about Hunters offenses.
After the light was shone the DOJ clearly felt pressured to show impartiality when in virtually any other case with these same offenses there would very likely have been a light plea deal offered but that of course would have looked like favoritism once the light was shone which meant that option got removed off the table simply because Joe Biden had won the election in 2020. That is what Joe Biden is referring to when he claims Hunter was "unfairly prosecuted". NOT that the DOJ is completely corrupt and needs to be overhauled by Republican partisans which is nothing but hiring foxes to watch the hen house.
"unfairly prosecuted". That's fucking hilarious. While yes, the charges did come about during investigations into Biden's corruption, they are valid charges. All all in violation of a bill BIDEN wrote.
What makes it pathetic is that the left doesn't see how Hunters charges and conviction fall right in line with how the Biden DOJ has been working for the last few years.
Well, thank you for bringing your partisan slant to the discussion. But you don't answer the question. How could a supposedly non-partisan office as the DOJ is supposed to be used by Republicans to attack a sitting president thru his son without being corrupt themselves?
It's because our legal system is subjective, and judges and DA's have some latitude in how they prosecute alleged crimes based on the facts and circumstances of each case. In this case nobody would have even heard about Hunters low-level crimes if his father hadn't been running for President. This would have almost certainly been pleaded out and he would have paid a fine or gotten some community service and no one would care. But because he's the President's son, making that offer or giving him any leniency is seen as meddling by his father and thus congressional Republicans used that to make sure the DA charged and prosecuted him in the most public and humiliating way possible. I do not believe the DOJ is truly partisan, but it does have to answer to the executive and legislative branches, so it does take the "optics" of cases into consideration so as to not upset the apple cart.
Even a pink-foot baby can discern when its 'bottle' has turned sour against it! And if this is too 'hard' (I am skeptical of it being) for some libertarians and some conservatives to discern then they can just read 21 and 21.1 below for sentiments of future malice projections into the consciousness of the new administration. (Better believe it is already DREAMT OF in right-wing circles. And the Biden family will be wise to continue to build guardrails around themselves because of it.)
I assume,.. you mean that in the overall because of who he is that they're "low level crimes" correct?
and from your previous comment at 5.2.2
Tacos - As a lawyer what is your take on the ability of Trump's DOJ, or even the Republican Congress, to reopen the the influence peddling aspect of their case going back as far as 2014 or prior, but aimed more at Joe Biden, and calling Hunter in under oath to testify as he can no longer plead the 5th under the blanket pardon?
Joe and Jill Biden's taxes are public going back for decades. If they ever had any unreported income it would be known of...
If it is unreported, how would it be known about? Makes no sense.
And yet it doesn't show the money that come in from
Could be seen as tax fraud.
Not only that, if the oversight committee in a fully Republican Congress wishes to pursue this further and possibly involve the DOJ, seems to me they can now subpoena Hunter Biden to testify under oath and he cannot plead the 5th because he has a blanket pardon covering all the way back to 2014. He can incriminate himself and members of his family but he himself can't be convicted.
And when he commits perjury (because we all know he would), he's in sentenced appropriately.
So, unpacking a bit, let me start with Congress. Congress can investigate very nearly anything it chooses to, and can issue a public report if it likes. However, it wouldn’t have any power to punish either Biden in any way that leaps to mind. But if the Gaetz ethics investigation can be used as a template, they would be unlikely to investigate - or issue a report since neither man is a member of either house.
Congress investigates people and things, of course, but they are generally limited (yes, there are limits) to something controlled by Congress, thus justifying the oversight. E.g., businesses or industries subject to congressional regulation, topics related to legislation under consideration, foreign policy, security issues surrounding official business (like January 6). None of that would seem to apply to either Biden.
DOJ is unlikely to try to investigate anything Biden did as president, and I imagine that would likely extend to the vice presidency, as well. Anything the VP does is likely so intertwined with the president that collecting evidence on the matter and prosecuting it would be disallowed based on the SCOTUS’s recent ruling on presidential immunity.
Additionally, there will likely be next to zero enthusiasm for going after an old man who is obviously done with politics.
Thanks! I generally agree, especially with your last sentence.
Trump made over 500 million while president. You need to let this one go.
Of course, you have a backup for that statement..........

Good, not a violent crime so BFD.
... and he's now eligible for a cabinet position or ambassadorship in the trump administration.
Given the nature of the DoJ that Trump seems to be creating, I can understand why Biden reversed his pledge.
He already been convicted once. Only the sentencing remains on that. Do you think the Biden DOJ would tank his second trial on purpose?
But he will always be a convicted felon. Once again, you're predicating a hypothetical event(s) that might occur.
Do you not see the difference between factoring in Trump's character, demeanor, and behavior vs. predicting the future? This is a probability call. If you were Biden, would you be comfortable that the DoJ under Trump would treat Biden fairly?
They don;t want to see Biden treated fairly.
hunter would've been subjected to partisan torture for trump's entire term, just to show the maga sycophants they accomplished something, even though trump and congress couldn't ...
Pretty much this.
Are you suggesting Joe pardoned his son because of Trump?
I strongly suspect that the promising corruption of the DoJ by Trump heavily influenced his decision. If Harris had won, I would be far more critical of Biden pardoning Hunter. Given Trump is in charge, Biden would probably never forgive himself if he did not intercede.
In short, the fact that Trump will be directing the DoJ of course influenced Biden's decision.
Of course, it matters. Moreover, some conservatives pretend to NOT hear all the right-wing blogosphere and media print and media narratives about their vindictive leader: Trump. They had planned to make an example out of Hunter Biden. It had potential to go on for years. Watching it could break many hearts and minds to see someone so 'effed up' at the time he misbehaved done so. But, the right-wing would have considered it their 'duty' to APPLY an everlasting political 'lash' to the political back and buttocks of Hunter (extra lashings all the more to frustrate his father: Joe).
That smacks of a BlueAnon conspiracy theory. What is more likely is Joe was waiting to see if his son got convicted and then did what most fathers would do. Blaming it on Trump is just a way to try and make it more palatable.
He never should have said he would not pardon his son. That was just a ploy to make him seem like he was upstanding and would not cover for his own son.
Yeah, that makes sense. With Joe being immune to just about any prosecution, continuing to go after Hunter is a thing Trump’s DOJ might plausibly pursue.
It wouldn't be out of character for Trump to lean on the judge in the case to sentence Hunter to 20 years just because he's a Biden.
Lol. Now you are imagining Trump committing felonies and corrupt federal judges to justify Biden lying.
Cool...
How would leaning on the judge work?
"The I'm afraid of a corrupt DOJ going after my son" excuse only works on future prosecutions. It's no reason to void the conviction and prosecutions Merrick Garland is overseeing. Unless, of course, he's claiming his DOJ is corrupt.
It might not but it doesn't mean he won't try. His base (ahem you) would love a 20 year sentence for Hunter.
Is that really what they want? Seems the majority of them really don't care.
He spoke of Trump's character. This is certainly something that is consistent with Trump's vindictive nature. That does not mean he will try to do it.
maga cares that their own criminals and traitors walk free ...
. Biden's already been convicted. Please explain how the conspiracy between Trump and multiple federal trial and appellate judges would have succeeded and resulted in Hunter serving more than the federal sentencing guidelines impose for those crimes.
Believing that Trump will somehow collude with federal judges to get Hunter Biden sentenced disportionately to his crimes is much more of an indictment of our federal courts than anything Trump ever said. So much for respecting institutions.
Sentencing is pending. By pardoning Hunter, Joe has closed this down and made it impossible for Trump's DoJ to fuck with him on these matters.
Both sentences were to be issued in mid December, so Trump's DOJ has nothing to do with any of it.
And now Joe has the peace of mind that this is over. Is that okay with you?
Great, we agree Trump's DOJ is not relevant to Biden pardoning his son for crimes the Biden DOJ tried, convicted and would have sentenced him for.
The Trump DOJ conspiracy theory was just a smokescreen to give his cheerleaders a crutch to use to avoid questioning why their leader lied to them.
Juvenile tactic.
So you do believe Trump's future DOJ was involved in the cases Biden DOJ tried, convicted and would have sentenced him for before Trump was even sworn in?
I believe that Biden does not trust the DoJ under Trump and wanted to close this matter down. A pardon is finality.
Yes, and that's believing in a conspiracy theory.
This is CYA, that's all it is. Otherwise it wouldn't be a blanket pardon.
comparing who trump pardoned with Biden pardoning his son, is ridiculous. Trump and the Republicans have shown they would pursue him and anything Biden for years now. Remember how Trumps first impeachment began ? With Trump threatning Zelinsky to find dirt on Biden or not receive aid ?
“Trump and the Republicans have shown they would pursue him and anything Biden for years now.”
i guess crackboy better keep his nose clean then.
I haven't made any comparisons.
Ha, do you think he's senile enough to issue a pardon to his brother stretching back to 2014?...
Mmmm,....
Yes. Biden just pardoned Hunter over the same things Trump was impeached for wanting to investigate.
Trump was impeached for trying to use a government of another country to dish dirt on his political opponent, and for attempting to withhold aid to that country until he got his "investigation". He's a scumbag.
Then you do not understand what a conspiracy theory is.
Trump is an irresponsible, corrupt, lawless, vindictive prick. Being wholly unconcerned that Trump might abuse the DoJ is naivety.
Of course I do. The idea that Trump can reopen cases to get extra punishment for Hunter is the very definition of one. By the time he is sworn in, Biden would have been tried, convicted and sentenced for his tax and gun charges if he hadn't been pardoned. Those cases are over. That Trump can somehow interfere in these cases to punish Biden above and beyond his sentence would require a conspiracy involving the DOJ and multiple federal Judges.
Feel free how Trump can punish sentenced criminals without the complicity of a federal judge though. I'd love to hear it.
g wholly unconcerned that Trump might abuse the DoJ is naivety.
I'll ask again. Explain how Trump would "lean on" federal judges to get them to resentence Biden after he was already sentenced..
I did not speculate on what might be done. Do you know what a strawman is?
Get a different hobby. My position (repeated last time) as to why Biden pardoned Hunter is because (I believe) he wanted to ensure this was final and was very likely motivated by the fact that Trump (dishonest, vindictive prick with the power of the presidency) would be the PotUS.
Further, it is naive to assume that legal channels are all nice and neat. There are many ways to manipulate the legal system, but a pardon closes them all and that likely gives Biden peace of mind.
Of course not, because it would be embarrassing to write something so silly. So instead, you just hinted at vague threats of wrongdoing by Trump
with no specifics to defend. Easier to slander Trump that way.
Get a different hobby.
Lol. This thread is about the claim that it would be in character for Trump to lean on the judge in the case to sentence Hunter to 20 years just because he's a Biden. You gave it a thumbs up, remember? Now, suddenly, you don't want to talk about this nonsensical conspiracy theory? Sure.
ut a pardon closes them all and that likely gives Biden peace of mind.
Lol. DO you think Biden is a fool? He knows that Trump can't reopen a case and start imposing new sentences on Hunter. Moreover he justified the pardon by claiming HIS OWN DOJ engaged in a politically motivated prosecution. It's not just Trump he blamed. He blamed his OWN DOJ.
He doesn't want his kid to go to jail. Jail is for poor crack heads in his Biden's world. That's it. That's all he cares about, everything else is just window dressing to manipulate his partisan minions and give them something to rally around. "Poor, innocent Hunter is the victim of political prosecution by my DOJ so my pardon is justified"
Some conservatives were planning to 'dog' Hunter and his Dad. And so now, they are compelled to turn to Dad alone. (I think he can handle the political 'mauling.')
I suppose that there are situations where being that far gone is a blessing.
Trump is 'hiring' conspiracy theorists by the dozen. In fact, the U.S. president may find he is having a hard time 'swimming' in the sea of conspiracies surrounding him! So much so that he may have to start 'firing' (again)!
Well, I guess the collective you will just have to maul the 'old decrepit mentally handicapped soon to be retired former president' for all y'all are worth! Please do so; be as 'robust' about it as you can! Joe can take it! Sic those kept pent-up and starved hell-hounds on him!
And he set the dates so that he won't be charged with all the Ukraine corruption stuff. Wonder why he did that...
Stated Claim: Trump is 'hiring' conspiracy theorists by the dozen.
No Google fact-check information was found for claim: 'Trump is 'hiring' conspiracy theorists by the dozen.'
Try expressing the claim in terms of a few strong keywords and avoid full sentences.
So his son won't be held accountable for any illegal things he has done, no matter how serious they may have been.
It's being reported that the Delaware judge overseeing the gun trial there has announced the termination of all further proceedings in the case due to this pardon but has not dismissed the case outright, as requested by Hunters legal team.
Wonder what twist the Hunter legal team is thinking about?
Covering the corruption. Although it protects the crackhead. Not daddy.
Makes me wonder if any state charges will pop up against Hunter in the future. My understanding is he can only be pardoned for federal crimes.
A Biden not held accountable? That's odd. /s
You care about corruption? Do you see any corruption with Trump?
Why do you keep deflecting to Trump on an article about Biden?
Because there is no defense for Bidens actions.
Entirely predicted dodge from you. Always badmouthing the Ds yet running away every time the hypocrisy of your criticism is noted by pointing out the 800lb gorilla in the room.
Yet you still don't answer the question. [deleted][✘]
Perhaps it's because you already know the obvious answer. It's not like it's not well known that there has been corruption, favoritism and nepotism in politics from both Republicans and Democrats. Personally, I believe that more often than not when it's found in the Democrat party it is usually universally condemned, you can see even now in the MSM how many prominent Democrats, liberals and progressives are shaking their heads at this reversal and clear favoritism shown whether justified or not.
However, when it comes to Republican's they tend to circle the wagons and double down on their lie no matter how egregious and it takes being a repugnant Republican like George Santos for them to actually back away from defending their tribe. We see it non-stop with Trump as he makes outrageous claims, tells voluminous lies, is impeached twice, inspires an attempted insurrection, is convicted on multiple felony charges and essentially threatens to rip up our constitution and go after his political opponents and Republicans either just shake their heads with a wide grin and say "Well that's just Trump being Trump", or they outright endorse his dishonesty, criminality and unpatriotic insanity.
So yes, this feels very much like Trumpublicans are making a big stink about the splinter in their ideological opponent's eye while ignoring the MASSIVE timber in their own.
You're right. I know the answer. They can't defend what they've supported for the last few years and want to draw attention away from it. Kind of hypocritical to badger people for deflecting then that person does it themselves. Makes it very hard to take that person seriously on anything.
I can't take that comment serious. I would never wish on my worse enemy this Trumpist state of mind. Being cruel just to be cruel is a form of evil.
[deleted][✘]
Refusing to answer a question that is clearly off topic is hardly dodging anyway.
Of course he pardoned him. There was never a doubt he was going to pardon him after the election.
The amusing thing was watching his cheerleaders say he wouldn't because he promised he wasn't going to. Lol.
I hear a rumor that the 'clown show' still plans to haul Hunter's butt across its barnacle-laden underside on some concocted pretense or the other.
They shouldn’t be able to. The pardon document not only pardons Hunter for the crimes of which he was convicted, but also for any other federal crime he may or may not have violated.
I hope so. Because I don't want the 'noise' in my cable news 'feeds.' But, as the saying goes, 'where there is a will there is a way.' So Hunter better step lightly and carefully going forward and hope their is no 'ho' or skeleton in his background that can be farther exposed through lengthy investigation by the incoming 'authorities' will an axe to wield (figure of speech).
I heard that is what the hookers did to him while he was on a cocaine binge.
Nate Silver:
The White House consistently lied about this. Biden's stubborn insistence on running for reelection was perhaps the singular most important factor in Trump 2.0, and now he's kicking salt in the wound of the party brand he helped to destroy.
Why do you think Trump(ism) gains a following? Well, actually, that's complicated. But part of it is because elites of all political stripes are absolutely out for themselves and complete moral hypocrites. And Democrats stake a claim to moral superiority when Trump does not.
Kudos to Silver for having a shred of self awareness. Watching the people who claim Trump is corrupt and destroys norms while defending this pardon will be high comedy.
Biden is a nurturing father and we have known it all along. . . so all the so-called strict-fathers (who would have found a "plausible" reason to do it) can just not pardon their own 'errand' children when/if the time comes in their lives.
Okay, but he, his press secretary and pretty much his entire administration lied for years about this when he was running for reelection.
Even had his wife publicly lying:
Jill Biden says her husband, President Joe Biden will not pardon their son, Hunter Biden, because ‘Joe and I Both Respect the Judicial System, and That’s the Bottom Line.’
He is a nurturing father at the end. . . His staff did not lie for years if they followed the spoken statements delivering the president's thinking. Stop searching and feeling around for a new 'goalpost.' Biden did this for his own reasons.
(And, that goes for Jill Biden too.) Oh and some conservatives will not get a pass. . . had some conservatives kept their damn mouths shut we would not have EVIDENCE of intend to make a 'lynching' of a president's son on 'TRUMPED up' charges simply because of wielding the power to satiate oneself on the dining of Biden's son.
He lied. So did Jill.
Spin and rationalize it all you want, but they lied.
Call it what the collective you will. I have already explained that I knew 'you' would.
Have you considered that maybe he just changed his mind?
No. Pardoning him was always Joe's intention.
Totally possible, but I don’t see how you could know that for sure. Do you have proof?
Hunter Biden you were wrong to be so 'effed-up' as to damage the image and now legacy of your father. He clearly understood the implications of letting you off the hook and what it will cause him when some conservatives MAKE A POINT to pardon DAMNABLE individuals using your Dad's action as cover.
That ship has sailed, though. Millions of allegedly moral people just voted for a convicted felon to be president. While campaigning, he promised to pardon the criminals who support him, and he’s appointing other fellow felons to positions in government. This madness was already going to happen with or without a pardon for Hunter.
What’s nauseating is watching these hypocrites clutch their pearls and gnash their teeth over the pardoning of a private citizen who committed non-violent, victimless crimes.
No, no charging Trump with a non violent crime no one has ever been charged with before and that can't even be explained by the people who defend it is necessary to protect the rule of law and shows that no one is above the law
Pardoning Hunter for gun and tax crimes (plus possible child trafficking and FARA violations) that people go to jail for all the time is totally consistent with those claims. They have to be. Otherwise anyone who argued for Trump's conviction and punishment because a law was found to charge him under is a shameless hypocrite
Did you miss the part about being a private citizen? You quoted it after all.
Hunter Biden is not a public servant, has never tried been one, and is not trying to be one. Combine that with the nature of his crimes and I can’t see a reason why I should care about what he did.
Trump committed his crimes while running for president, and while he was president. After being convicted of his crimes, he will be president again. All of that makes it our business.
When MAGA cultists complain about a "weaponized justice system," remind them that President Biden has refused to show favoritism towards his son because he has a commitment to the rule of law and our judicial system, regardless of who is involved.
What will be reminded of in the public is the 'sh-tshow' they were spared which was being schemed in the halls of power against a stupid, man-child, who put his father in the worse position after losing one son to the nation he loved and served. The irony is this: The country actually owed Biden this one moment of professional COURTESY even though he despaired over making the decision to do it.
Now then, President Biden, before you leave office use your pardon power to help some people in prison whom have been unjustly, highly questionably been put in prisons, have records which should justly be expunged, and finally have REPENTED of their wrongs. Right wrongs for the 'folks' who desperately can use a 'break' in life!
Let's be clear. When Biden said "no is above the law," he lied. Hunter obviously is.
Blanket immunity for all crimes committed the last ten years. Pretty, pretty good deal.
Biden did lie. And Hunter should be ashamed of compelling his father to take back his principled statement over him. This is a true 'cluster-fuck' moment in presidential history. That said, the "pardon" power is not being abused. . . at least not yet. So some of us can take solace (however short-lived) in that!
Biden didnt lie, he changed his mind based on Trump's behavior over the past month. Will you stop agreeing with these fools ?
Pathetic. Pitiful. The comment.
Trump has voiced specific disrespect for our justice system for years. If he had to he would pardon himself in a heartbeat. Christ, he just hired his son in law's criminal father to be US ambassador to France. He pardoned Manafort to keep him from implicating Trump in shenanigans with Russia.
Newstalkers has nosedived since the election and we seeing it in some people not posting much anymore. The preposterousness of many comments from the right have taken over.
never say never
That's surely a candidate for 2024 Rationalization of the Year.
Biden did lie (and as I have stated across this discussion) I can understand it. Some conservatives are going to hold Biden to this word (as it is his 'bond'). I get it, JR. (I have been saying that too. I fully 'get' the circumstances have changed and so the outcome we're getting. Why should such people get his son on trumped up rhetoric and real charges (ruled in a court of law)?
But, this 'arena' Biden plays in . . . is not new to him at all. He already knew that with any change of changing circumstances. . . that once he 'course corrected' these folks would hold him to his written and/or spoken words. Biden knew this. And now the moment is front and center. . . and Biden has taken back his words. (It may have been a better principle or discipline for him to hold his peace and not remark on a pardon or not. But, the media asked and Biden gave his thoughts "in the moment/s' of asking.)
As for my agreement with trumpists, by now you know that two or several circumstances can be true at the same time. I saw Biden say he would not pardon his son on several occasions on camera. Here it is (plain and clear):
Biden says he won't pardon his son Hunter after sentencing
I can not be consistent if I won't acknowledge such a firm statement made by a man who leads the world. . . and thus, ought to know how the tone of 'finality' is rendered when he speaks!
Therefore, Biden SHOULD have taken the 'hit' despite the hurt and sorrow that would come to be true to his repeated statement. That said, I can understand why he chose a different course of action which is available to him. . . if he dared to use it after firmly stating he would not.
But, I would be a liar if I said that I can not accept that his 'faithful' opposition would drown him for making such a rhetorical statement (as it turned out to be). Surely, they were hoping and holding their breath for just this very action to take place so they could 'howl' at him and promise to show (yet) another instance of what they will seriously label: hypocrisy.
I don’t see how it’s a lie. I change my mind every day. I tell the kids we’re having chicken for dinner, and then I change my mind and get pizza. Maybe the circumstances changed. Maybe I just felt differently about it.
The saying goes, 'my word is my bond.' As president Biden states multiple times with 'finality' that he would let the justice system play itself out in regards to Hunter. He did not. (I can understand the politics and the personal risks here (they planned to harm and possibly bankrupt the Biden's through their 'exhaustive' negative legal treatment of his son, and still do if they can just find an opening). Joe Biden was compelled to lie and in doing so alter his legacy for the sake of his son.
It is a love that speaks volumes. One that anybody can understand. But yes, it was a lie (on behalf of his son).
I think you have lost the argument if you have to resort to trying to compare a presidential pardon for crimes with changing your mind for dinner.
It is amusing that Biden lovers can't even admit he lied, even though when push came to shove everyone knew he would pardon his son if things went south for him.
The whole no one is above the law schtick he was promoting for months was nothing more than a bullshit story. He did what many fathers would have done, I don't know what he thought lying would do unless he really felt there would be no possibility of jail time.
I’m not trying to win an argument, and I don’t care if anyone here agrees with me. I just don’t think of this site in that way. I express my opinion. Take it or leave it.
I’m no Biden lover, and no one here knows his thought process for certain. There is not enough evidence to demand anyone admit anything. Some say he lied. Some say he broke a promise. It could be both, or one, or neither. It may be as simple as him changing his mind.
It all depends on perspective. That is, where one stands on the radial to be dailed (in). For example: A mother can be: A surrogate mother, a birth mother, a step-mother, even a god-mother.
Additionally, some will consider what Biden has done using a radial dialed in method. Landing this discussion where it 'stands' today depending on one's perspective.
I choose to understand what Biden did as understandable and also that he 'broke' his word (under compelling), and it turned him into a liar.
People who insist Biden will pardon Hunter after specifically ruling it out are telling on themselves. They can't imagine someone acting on principle and keeping his word.
John Harwood, former White House correspondent...
Watching the Biden Bootlickers bootlick, is something. This is man who literally wrote laws and campaigned on putting non-violent drug offenders in jail. He spent the last year campaigning on "no man being above the law," and using his promise not to pardon his son as a campaign talking point.
Then, after the election is finished, he goes right back on his promise and his bootlickers say "who cares?"
I guess the same people who've spent 50 years shilling for him aren't going to change at the last minute. They are in so deep that to recognize how they've been used for decades by the Bidens would cause severe psychological trauma. So they persist in shilling and project their rage at Trump and moan about he'll do the all these terrible things that Biden has already done.
But Trump owes Biden and his bootlickers a big thank you. Without their hypocrisy, without their complete lack of self awareness, without them showing year after year how rotten, dishonest and partisan the establishment is, a President Trump wouldn't be possible. So let's hope they enjoy the fruits of their labor.
Oh please, enough of this crap.
Did you object to Trump naming the criminal father of his son in law to be US ambassador to France? The same Charles Kushner, father of his favorite child's husband, that Trump pardoned? On what seed or social media post did you voice such objection?
Trump was convicted by a juror of his peers for committing election finance fraud. He was found liable by a judge for business fraud. He settled a fraud lawsuit with Trump U. victims and paid 25 million dollars. He is a proven tax cheat, who avoided responsibility for that simply because the statute of limitations ran out. Trump is a lifelong crook. People who voted for him have no business criticizing Biden for pardoning his son. NONE.
But Trump But trump...
You keep missing that I agree Trump is no better than Biden. They are two sides of the same coin.
The same Charles Kushner, father of his favorite child's husband, that Trump pardoned?
Lol. You mean a pardon for a guy who served his time and paid his fine for cheating on taxes. You really want to compare that to Biden's pardon of his son for 11 years of crimes?
Does it matter to you who is the ambassador to France?
Do you have an issue with the pardon of his son in laws father? Why?
It is highly unlikely Trump would have pardoned Kushner if he was not part of Trump's extended family.
It is always amusing to watch you have to find 50 examples from Democrats , over a period of decades, in order to equate it with one person , Donald Trump, over the period of 10 years.
People who defend Trump in this exact way have zero credibility.
Highly.
But again, a pardon for someone who served his time in jail and paid his fine for evading taxes is much different than a pardon to keep a family member from facing responsibility for their crimes.
o find 50 examples from Democrats , over a period of decades, in order to equate it with one person
I'm using one example, from yesterday. Though I guess you can go back to June when Biden decided to lie and say a pardon was off the table when it wasn't, while he campaigned on being a supporter of the rule of law and the principle that no person is above it.
The rationale for this comment, which is insane, is that because we think Biden is a bad xyz, we will put in Trump who is a bad abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz in order to spite the "libs".
Trumpism will destroy America.
I think you mean Trumpism will succeed in destroying America. It’s clearly the goal.
Biden pardoning his son is the most predictable thing ever. He’s a liar. The Democrats are liars. Everybody knows they are liars. Yet they somehow still try to play the moral righteous card. That’s why they got smoked. -
I dont have to spin anything . 77 million people voted for the worst human being to ever run for president on a major party ticket. Trump is a convicted felon, and would pardon himself at the drop of a hat. He has pardoned Steve Bannon, Roger Stone, Paul Manafort , and Michael Flynn, all because they serve his political purposes and his right wing base wanted him to.
No one who voted for Trump has any right to complain about Biden "lying". NONE.
And did Biden lie, or change his mind when he saw the spoken direction of the new administration?
By all means, keep playing the "Trump will abuse pardons card" post Hunter.
The Democrats are Jim and Tammy Faye Bakker whining about the moral degradation of america at this point.
Is that a federal or state law
He lied. Anyone that bought the narrative that he would not pardon his son must not have a son.
you are a broken record.
Trmp would do the same thing if it was one of his kids and a Democratic Admin was taking over.
And anyone of these people would do the same damn thing. Have I mentioned lately that I'm sick of hypocritical twats?
Exactly. Trump is the moral compass for Democrats.
av e I mentioned lately that I'm sick of hypocritical twats?
Yep.
Biden pardoning his son is the most predictable thing ever. He’s a liar. The Democrats are liars. Everybody knows they are liars. Yet they somehow still try to play the moral righteous card. That’s why they got smoked. -
just want Democrats to stop acting like they are on this moral high ground politically, when they have shown us they’re not. You know, whether it’s skipping the primary process when Biden stepped down to things like Biden pardoning his son. Stop acting like you all are the pure party and Republicans aren’t."
Maybe now Democrats will stop being hypocritical twats and pretending they are any different than Trump.
A moment of levity:
TG, stop by the front office on your way out today! We must discuss this use of the "T—t' word!
LOL
no
I he art TG!
... which is something Republicans consider a very admirable trait. Everyone knows the Republicans love Trump because they think he makes a great liar. The best ever!
Trump is their liar. He lies for their cause/s.
Every presidential pardon is a bullshit move that serves to inform the public that some are just part of a different system of justice than the rest of us. It’s like it exists firstly to cheat the system and secondly to inflame the other side. May as well just tune it out and accept that we are just pawns in a deeply flawed system, and hope that you stay on the right side of laws with consequences that happen to not apply to certain people.
The pardon is a form of grace (I'd imagine as a throw-back to the times of kings and queens) who could give grace to whomsoever they will. In those cases, as often as they willed) that a president can give. The thinking is it would be used to help those caught up in desperate, unjust, questionable, 'gray-areas' legal binds, in my opinion.
It’s an antiquated privilege with roots in grace, that was ripe for plucking and abuse by the various types of immoral, grifting, tyrant wannabes that now saturate our political ecosystem. It’s the political equivalent of setting a bucket of candy on your porch at Halloween and expecting all visitors to follow the rules on the sign and take one piece. That said, Biden is likely doing it to save his son from a fate similar to Alexei Navalny or Jeffrey Epstein.
Lol. Now he's going to be murdered by the feds?
I think the grace of a pardon lost its grace when Ford pardoned Nixon
Emphatically.
I hate to see this great country having to go to this 'adjustment,' but evidently the public needs to feel it (one more 'go-round') to see if it is something it can stand/increase from before moving forward with the rest of the world.
I can't believe Democrats trotted out the Biden just "changed his mind," and didn't lie all the times he pledged not to pardon Hunter. Here's NBC news:
I would advise anyone who fell for this not to buy any bridges..
I am not even blaming Joe for doing something most fathers would have done but it was obvious he was just looking for the right reason. Since he was getting close to the deadline he used the tried and true but but but Trump!
The pardon isn't a surprise and Biden had to do it. As always with Biden, it's the lying. All he had to do was be honest and say "all options are on the table" or something to that effect while waiting for things to play out. Either Biden or Harris was always going to pardon Hunter in the end,if necessary.
Instead, he decided, again, to lie. He made a spectacle of patting himself on the back for standing up for "the rule of law" and tried to capitalize on his supposed integrity for political gain.
Imagine how deeply in denial or psychotic Biden must be to have closed his pardon with this statement : " For my entire career I have followed a simple principle: Just tell the American people the truth."
My first reaction was that is what pretty much any father would do. We are long past the days of Brutus killing his own sons for plotting against the Republic.
But I also didn't write and support laws that put thousands of other people's kids behind bars either. Biden was very pro-law and order and pro jail during phases of his career when it was politically advantageous for him. I don't know how that can be squared with letting his own kid completely off the hook for 11 years of crimes.
Biden’s Presidency started with him denying the existence of Hunter’s laptop and is ending with Biden pardoning Hunter for all the things found on his laptop.
Here's Joe Biden bragging about how he passed a law mandating that anyone caught smoking crack would go to jail for 5 years. How many kids who used crack spent years in jail because their parent wasn't Joe Biden?
Laws are for peasants, not Bidens...
I am not surprised by this - I was much more surprised when Biden asserted that he would never pardon his son. I expected this to happen before he left office and am not even upset by it.
I do not think that "MAGA" will actually be too upset by this (despite the public blustering), as it means that the Democrats no longer will have the high ground to stand on when Trump starts pardoning people (and I am sure he will).
I think Hunter should have gone to jail and I am satisfied that the Jan 6 participants went to jail, but the pardon of Hunter changes all of that I fear.
The left has been inflating this like it's some kind of accomplishment. With all that fiction is their "THINKING" people would be outraged. Nobody is. Nobody is surprised it happened. We all knew Joey was full of shit when he claimed he wouldn't pardon the crackhead.
They should immediately charge Bidens brother or Hunters Bro, then subpoena Hunter to testify and ask him about his payoffs from Ukraine and his payoffs to the big guy.
That's a good idea. Hunter would have no choice but to collaborate the information already on hand from the investigation into him. Commit's perjury and it puts him in prison.
And here it is. The active minds of "vengeance is mine" are calculating new forms of individual torture for new 'candidates' as a backdoor process. . . and if it is being discussed here. . .it is already taking shape in the publications of right-wing think tanks and writers.
Sorry if I don't coddle crackheads.
Do you condone our elected officials selling influence for their personal gain?
That's kind of sad, actually. Billionaires don't have a need to be coddled, but get it anyway by some strict adherents to a conservative ideology.
The question has nothing to do with the quote. And as far as I know, you don't have any basis for the rumor you are using to ask a question.
Really........do you live in an alternate reality or maybe you can provide me with one thing that Hunter Biden brought to the table other than access to his father where they would pay millions!
Okay, now I will deal with the question. I don't condone influence peddling - but, it does not matter what I condone as apparently there is no law against 'peddling' or Hunter Biden (and others) would be hauled in court to deal with it. So. . . now what?
Exploit this!
Sure there is, these actors weren't looking for anything that could be obtained through a lobbyist. If they are directing funds, military movements, top secret information, many different situations could be criminal.
Sigh.......... Foreign Agents Registration Act (FARA): An Overview
Okay! Since you are going in that direction: "Book him, 'Danno'!" But you can't. . . . It's moot.
This ever-expanding topic that seems to not have a focus is confusing to say the least. I don't like influence-peddling, but I can't do a damn thing about it and so. . . I wonder what is the point of continuing on with this (rhetorical).
