  • "It's going to be very cold out there for any folks attending the inauguration," Eric Taylor, a forecaster for the National Weather Service in Sterling, Virginia, told Axios.

Air temperatures during the day on Monday are expected to be in the low- to mid-20s, Taylor said.

  • Wind chill factors by about noon will be between 12ºF and 14ºF.

Contrary to protocol they're flying the flags at top mast, but I guess God doesn't suck up to Trump's requirements.  That could be a surprise to a lot of Americans.

It doesn’t matter how cold it will be, it will be the largest attendance for an inauguration in history, probably millions will show up, it will be yuge, really yuge.

You seem to be gloating those public servants (police, fire, rescue etc) and military service members will be standing for hours in the bitterly cold weather - simply because they recognize their responsibility to do their jobs.

The fact that the flags will not remain at "half mast" as tradition requires for the mourning period of a former president is the real tragedy.

I don;t think John is doing that. I know I'm not. I've had to stand at attention on a flight line in the hot Texas sun for a Change of Command ceremony. It was awful. I feel for the public servants. At least they know how to dress properly.

As far as the half-staff flag...it is a tragedy and pisses me off. Sarah Sanders followed DeSantis when the governor's office announced this morning that the flag would be full staff on Monday

The idea that I would be happy that people will be REQUIRED to be out in the weather for the inauguration is just ridiculous. But it is not uncommon at all for police and the military to be "out in the weather".

The day will be dreary on Monday, which will be an appropriate foretelling of the next four years.

Likely not .

As someone pointed out , there is a federal  law dictating the flying of the nations flag at half staff /mast . it was signed by Ike back in the 50s , but it is a law without penalty or punishment for not doing so , at least the law doesnt mention one .

And considering there is no penalty  or punishment , i wonder , how many here would admonish me for flying my personal national flag at half mast, on my property , with no presidential , gubernatorial or legislative order to do so for a week when my father passed? Or would there be some sense of understanding?

Harry S. Truman (May 8, 1884 – December 26, 1972) was the 33rd president of the United States , serving from 1945 to 1953

Nixon was re-elected in November 1972. His inauguration would have been Jan 20, 1973. I doubt if even Nixon was that petty to insist the flag fly full staff

That comment shows a lack of knowledge, it wasn't a practice until 50's so your comment is wrong on it's face. and the only President to die in office after it became a practice was Kennedy,

Surely you aren't going to ignore Truman and Nixon are you?  (another question)

The practice started in the 17th century and was widely adhered to, President Eisenhower, in an attempt to unify the many variants just decided to write his own rules in March of 1954 by Proclamation 3044.  Ike was very interested in flags and how they were used.

Later in 1959 he modified the Proclamation by Executive Order 10834.

and the Flags were not at half staff at Love field,

Who gives a fluck about Love Field?  Or what "rules" Texans ignore?  Before JFK's body was cold, the flag

flying over the Senate was slowly lowered to half-mast at the Capitol on 11/22/1963.

It was then flown at half mast until 12/22/1963.

Kennedy was shot at 12:30PM CST and declared dead about 20 minutes later.

By 2:38 CST Johnson had been spirited to Love Field by Dallas PD hiding in an unmarked car,

to board Air Force One and take the oath of office.

I remember many people objecting to returning the flag to full staff and wanting to continue flying the half mast position.  I don't remember anyone insulting them or threatening them with arrest.

so an absolute failure of a comment.

Pathetic comment that steals from another poster, another absolute failure, as Truman was not Nixons VP. Your claim was every VP that took over for a president who died in office which was and still is a fact free comment. And Love field is where Johnson was inaugurated without any flags at half staff.

Bully for you.  The inauguration was on Air Force One, an airplane, no flags in evidence.

By the time Johnson arrived in D.C. all of the appropriate flags were at half mast.

This is a similar temperature that occurs at football games in December and January across the northern parts of the country and hundreds of thousands show up for those games, which last a lot longer than an inauguration.

The idea that people will be passing out from frostbite is a little far fetched.
