Republicans against Trump

@RpsAgainstTrump

NEW: Donald Trump did not back down from threats during a conversation with Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen. According to Frederiksen, Trump reiterated the possibility of imposing tariffs if Denmark does not give up Greenland. "The US side suggested that, unfortunately, there might be a situation where we collaborate less with Americans in the economic sphere.” “We are in a serious situation” Frederiksen stated.

"You have a nice little country here. It would be a shame to see anything happen to it."

The Danish government said that in her phone call with Trump, Frederiksen also emphasised that "Danish companies contribute to growth and jobs in the US, and that the EU and the US have a common interest in strengthened trade."

Last week, Trump threatened Denmark with high tariffs if the country did not give up Greenland.

The suggestion set off alarm bells among Danish industry leaders, as the US is Denmark's second largest export market and any targeted tariffs would have a significant impact on the Danish economy.

Up to Greenland to decide its future, Danish PM tells Trump

Denmark can retaliate by sanctioning the sale of LEGO in and to America.

That’s a terrible analogy.

Denmark has no legal right to stop Greenland from doing what it wants.  The pm is simply acknowledging reality.  Didn’t think you’d be so supportive of thw rights of colonialists to control colonies, but here we are.

Trump is using extortion techniques on Denmark .  Do what I want or we will hurt you.

If he wants to encourage Greenland to vote for independence, he can say so without acting like a mafia boss or 1930's dictator.

Greenland is suddenly a critical national security issue?

It is more like Trump has a scheme up his sleeve to enrich himself and his mob buddies.

rump is using extortion techniques on Denmark

SO you support Denmark going rogue, breaking it's own law and interfering in the future of Greenland? Of course there should be repercussions if Denmark acted to prevent Greenland from doing what it wants.  I know it goes against everything most leftists believe about America always being the bad guy, but if Denmark tried to interfere in Greenland's self determination, Denmark would be the bad guy.

Trump is trying to extort Denmark .

If the people of Greenland want to be free of Denmark then they can take steps toward that.

Trump is acting like a dictator.

Why is this suddenly a critical issue?  Because Trump says so?  wtf

Did you forget that the US is also a colonist and there is not  much difference how Denmark has treated the indigenous people of Greenland who are Inuit and how the US has treated NA’s, Native Hawaiians and Native Alaskans which many are Inuit the same people as Greenland.

Greenland should and will make the decision themselves.

that the US is also a colonist

not that this has anything to do with anything, but its not with regards to the mainland US.

Of course it does have something to do with this article. You are the one that brought up Denmark and colonization and I pointed out that the US who is trying to buy Greenland or use force is also a colonist. So we have colonists battling for control of Greenland both countries have a horrible record when it comes to how the indigenous people have been and still are in some case. So is one colonizer better than another, Sean?  One, the US is threading to harm Denmark with trade tariffs or invasion of Greenland the other, Denmark is saying that it’s up to Greenlanders which the vast majority are indigenous Inuit.

Sounds like we are back in the 1800’s and Manifest Destiny is our new goal once again.

If you knew anything about the Inuit you would also know that they do not want to be part of either Denmark or the US as their culture is vastly different than both countries and they do not believe that Greenland can be bought or sold, it’s a land thing with Indigenous, Sean.

It is up to the Inuit of Greenland to make the decision not Denmark or the US.

f course it does have something to do with this article. Y

The US has nothing to do with Greenland's status as a former colony of Denmark nor with Greenland's legal right to independence

Until they decide otherwise.

is up to the Inuit of Greenland to make the decision not Denmark or the US.

No shit. I've said that repeatedly. . Odd that progressives want Denmark to have a say though and get mad at Trump for telling them they have no say.

Actually it does, Sean. When Germany invaded Denmark in 1940 Greenland was a colony of Denmark and the US and Denmark signed the ‘’Greenland treaty’’ in 1941 which allowed us to put bases and defend the Danish Colony until 1951 when another agreement was signed for US bases in the Danish Colony, it’ wasn’t until 1953 that Greenland stopped being a colony.

Until they decide otherwise

Which may be never.

No shit. I've said that repeatedly. . Odd that progressives want Denmark to have a say though and get mad at Trump for telling them they have no say.

Yeah, no shit we agree on something, congratulations for being so open minded. As for progressives who are you talking about, I’m not a progressive so is someone else in this conversation?

As for Trump telling them they have no say it’s strange that he threatens them with tariffs or invasion. Hmmmmm strange don’t ya think, Sean.
