Why?

If all those people who have been posting about Trump on TicTok can no longer access it-- do you really think they'll stop osting about him?

They'll merely switch to another social media site-- and there are many.

Don't forget that despite the claims of his about hating China, he has a definite love affair with Xi.

It's so strange. For years, many  progressives and irrational Trump haters, including on this site have repeatedly claimed that the "conservative" justices, especially the Trump appointed justices,  will always do what Trump says.  Yet again, all the Trump justices ruled against Trump's spoken desires.

The question is when, if ever, will it get through to these irrational haters of the Court, that the justices are not in fact controlled by Trump?

This sounds like another made up exaggeration.   Who has stated that conservative justices will ALWAYS do what Trump says?

The reality is more likely that people have argued that the SCotUS has given Trump substantial slack ... to the point of effectively changing the CotUS to grant him immunity that does not exist in the CotUS.

Noting acts by judges like Aileen Cannon —who clearly bent over backwards for Trump— is not the same as arguing that every Trump appointee would do likewise.

Arguing that some actions by the SCotUS / judges were inappropriately favoring Trump is not the same as arguing that EVERY act by the SCotUS or a Trump appointed judge will favor Trump.

I think you should reconsider that. A country that runs secret police stations in foreign countries would absolutely data mine Tiktok for whatever advantage they can get from it. People being what they are, there are likely some who are in sensitive positions private messaging what should be secrets or perhaps incriminating details, like an affair with another person that spies would use to manipulate the individual.  China is no one's friend.

Since the Chinese owner of Tik Tok will be Trumps guest at the inauguration I think you can expect Trump to keep TikTok around.

The reported attendance of Vice President Han Zheng will mark the first time a senior Chinese leader has attended a new U.S. President’s swearing-in.

From the movie Goodfellas:

Henry Hill:

One day some of the kids from the neighborhood carried my mother's groceries all the way home. You know why? It was outta respect.

[] I wouldn't adjectiveatate it with respect, more like this "man" isn't right in the head, but lets pacify the big baby, cause he's definitely wacked out crazy, but he is what is best for China and our bro Putin, cause a United so Divided is what is best for the enemies of US, and Trum,po can't see past his own interests of money and power. He should be in prison as it's disturbing how so many can't see the detriment this clkown surely be

No doubt they are apprehensive, just as anyone would be with someone with access to substantial power who is prone to impulsive, irrational behavior and who is too stubborn to listen to anyone else.

One thing, during the next four years all one need do is 'follow the ego' or 'follow the money' to predict what Trump is likely to do.

Let's get this straight.  America's paranoia is that China might get ahold of Americans' info and send propaganda that will make people think that China is not as bad as the American government wants them to think, and China's paranoia is that American web sites will turn Chinese people into being like Americans. There is a difference, and I can understand it if the Americans on this site can't.

It’s worth remembering that in a very divided and partisan government, this ban passed with broad bipartisan support in both houses. I don’t know all of the evidence they reviewed, but when that many of them are that spooked, I’m inclined to cut them some slack.

That doesn't surprise me.  I wouldn't expect any American (except maybe some Chinese Americans) to want to see America become the world's number 2 nation instead of its God-given right to always be number 1.

You say that like it’s bad to try and be Number 1. But worse, it’s only bad if America tries to be Number 1. What’s wrong with aiming high.

What surprised me about this issue is that a lot of Congress initially opposed this or were skeptical. After they were briefed, they changed their minds. That doesn’t happen a lot.

Wow, how creative, but no cigar.  I don't appreciate anyone putting words in my mouth that I DIDN'T say, and what's worse I DID NOT EVEN INTIMATE that it's only bad that Americans try to.  If anything, I sympathize with America's loss.

What do you think about the Chine Coast Guard constantly harassing Filipino fishermen, ramming and fire hosing Filipino boats with the Coast Guard cruisers and constantly infiltrating waters owned by the Philippines, claiming the waters as their own? This is an area I am very familiar with.

Because of the constant harassment and international crimes committed by the Chinese against the Philippines, the US is reopening a portion of Subic Bay to station frigates and fighter aircraft.

As I'm sure you know, the Chinese base their claim on ancient maps that include the South China Sea as part of its empire.  It is not the only place where there are dual claims to the same place - China and Japan make such a claim on an island as well.  But at least in that case Japan doesn't push as hard as the Philippines to establish it.  Taiwan itself is such a case.  Did you know that even Canada and the USA both lay claim to an island off the east coast?  In all of those cases I don't have the knowledge to decide which side is right so I don't comment on it other than to say I admire America's hypocrisy by claiming it adheres to China's One China Policy and the Three Joint Communiques while arming Taiwan and sending government officials there.

Did you know that even Canada and the USA both lay claim to an island off the east coast?

And what about The Spratly Islands? That takes the cake (to coin a phrase):

Spratly Islands dispute

The  Spratly Islands dispute  is an ongoing  territorial dispute  among  Brunei China Malaysia , the  Philippines Taiwan , and  Vietnam  concerning "ownership" of the  Spratly Islands , a group of islands and associated "maritime features" (reefs, banks, and cays etc.) located in the  South China Sea . The dispute is characterized by diplomatic stalemate and the employment of military pressure techniques (such as military occupation of disputed territory) in the advancement of national territorial claims. All except Brunei occupy some of the maritime features.
