Notwithstanding the negative reaction which David Lynch's 1984 version of Frank Herbert's "Dune" had earned (including Lynch's own personal distaste for it), a remake was seriously considered, but now seems to be dropped. Even though I know I'm not joined by many others in my opinion, Frank Herbert's Dune series of novels were my favourite science fiction reading in my adult years. While I was a teen I had virtually devoured all of Edward E. (Doc) Smith's novels about Skylarks and Lenses, often referred to by Sci-Fi critics as "Space cowboy stories". However, Dune was more complex and full of technology, religion, conflict, treachery, heroism, good and evil, making for much interesting reading. I'm not critical of the original Lynch movie, or the TV mini-series that followed, or of the further series "Children of Dune" . However, I would really like to know what is happening.

The latest I have been able to find out about the proposed remake was this:

Do any of you sci-fi fanatics have any further news?
