A subgenre of science fiction, dystopian movies have their roots in the fiction of George Orwell and Aldous Huxley, and early examples often depicted a bleak future where humanity has been homogenized by soul-crushing technology. Later sci-fi dystopias focused on a not-too-distant future where society has been decimated by crime or some cataclysmic event. Here are five dystopian sci-fi films.
