Calls Grow For Madison Cawthorn To Be Expelled From The House

After he urged more violence and bloodshed against the US government, calls are growing for Rep Madison Cawthorn to be expelled from the House.

Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-CA) was asked about expelling Cawthorn on MSNBC's The Reid Out:

XSyc3Qic_normal.jpg Sarah Reese Jones@PoliticusSarahRep. Eric Swalwell says Rep. Madison Cawthorn should "face the consequences" of his calls for more violence on #TheReidOut https://t.co/33Txer9HlcVWg-R-dqoHcSLBIU.jpg?format=jpg&name=small 7:19 PM · Aug 31, 20218833

Swalwell said:

He should face the consequences for what he has said, and I think Speaker Pelosi is considering that, and that's what her statement reflects. And this is why Kevin Mccarthy cannot be speaker. He is not responsible enough to break from Donald Trump and just condemn basic outright violence.

By the way, that aide asked me earlier tonight. She said, you know, you didn't respond to the e-mail. Do you want the vest? You tweeted about it. And I thought it was bananas, frankly, when she sent it to me. I thought it was a joke. A lot of my colleagues have understandably purchased bulletproof vests, which I respect, but as you see these statements from people like Madison Cawthorn, I'm naive. I'm the naive one to think that he and others would not, again, invite, assemble, incite, and aim violence at the Capitol.

A DOJ Investigation Of Cawthorn Has Been Requested.

The American Muckrakers PAC wrote to AG Garland to launch a DOJ investigation into Cawthorn:

I am writing to you with an urgent plea to investigate a serious ongoing criminal matter.

As documented in publicly available video and reported by numerous news sources, on August 29th at a public meeting in Franklin, North Carolina, Representative David Madison Cawthorn (NC-11), speaking of the January 6, 2021, insurrection, was asked "When are you going to call us to Washington again?" His answer was chilling: "We are actively working on that. We have a few plans in motion I can't make public right now. There's a lot of Republicans who don't want to talk about this."

Just prior to Rep. Cawthorn's apparent admission to conspiring to launch another attempted coup, he repeated the Big Lie that had provided the cover for January 6th's violent rebellion - that President Biden was not, in Cawthorn's muddled yet nonetheless clear words, "dutifully elected," and "we know it was a stolen election."

And he ominously warned that further big lies regarding the next election will "lead to one place, and that's bloodshed." Chillingly, he stated "I am willing to defend our liberty at all costs. There's nothing that I would dread doing more than having to pick up arms against a fellow American."

U.S. law does provide broad immunity for members of Congress acting in their official capacity. But that capacity, and thus that immunity, clearly does not extend to conspiring to commit an insurrection against the U.S.
government, calling for bloodshed, and inciting followers to take up arms against their fellow citizens.

I am writing to urgently request that you launch an investigation into Rep. Cawthorn's past and ongoing insurrectionist activities, have the FBI interview him to determine his intentions, and confirm whether he is indeed
planning for further violence in Washington, DC or anywhere else. In addition, we need to know with whom he is involved in this illegal conspiracy.

It Takes A 2/3 Vote To Expel A House Member

It takes a two-thirds vote in the House to expel a member. A simple majority won't do. The only way for Cawthorn to be expelled would be for Republicans to also vote to expel him. Since Kevin McCarthy refuses to take any action against members of his caucus for violence, there is zero chance that Cawthorn is expelled.

The American people don't want insurrectionists in their government, and the calls are growing for Cawthorn to go.

Cawthorn is a loose cannon fruitcake who should never have been elected to public office in the first place. Definitely needs to be removed from office one way or another.

Thanks for posting this TG.  I was going to post it the other day.

A bunch of thugs seems to be all the gqp has to offer these days.

Was he involved in the 1/6/21 whatshisnames' mob attempted coup/insurrection?  So many of the gqp were involved, it's hard to keep track.

I saw that on 'air.' And I need to say this, because someone should: You would think that a handicapped person would have more understanding about shortcomings, and a person in a wheelchair more discipline about what comes out of his or her mouth! That is, one should look and express more ways to get along in life than seeking ways of combat!

I found it laughable and insulting that he would say he wants to further injure somebody through bloodshed. And that somebody should obey his sovereignt "demands."

Disable people are no more or less stupid than non-disabled people. How did he end up in a wheelchair? Combat? If so, you're right he really ought to think more and speak less about bloodshed

n 2014, at age 18, Cawthorn was seriously injured while returning from a spring-break trip to Florida. He was riding as a passenger in a BMW X3 SUV near Daytona Beach, Florida, when his friend Bradley Ledford fell asleep at the wheel. The SUV crashed into a concrete barrier while Cawthorn's feet were on the dashboard.

And here I thought he was a veteran. No, he's just some rich kid who got banged up in an accident because his friend was a moron

Friend TG, It's just too much! All of this foolish talk from politicians who have no filter! I watched this fool "get his youthful zeal off" before a crowd of apparently stupid supporters! This man has limited capacity and has been given a great and humbly "duty to serve" all of humanity-and he squanders it on being a loud-mouth craven for blood-sport!

Excuse me, I have had enough of republicans and conservatives 'talking' to me like I am a fool! This disabled man (and I knew his injury background) is threatening to injure, maim, and/or kill somebody and "nobody" in his leadership is checking him? That's privilege! And I will chew his silly ass up one side and down the other for thinking to invoke it in my hearing!

No one , even a baby born today, could live long enough to watch everything on tv today. There are thousands of shows and movies available to watch. Tens of thousands if you include all the garbage. Some of it is free and some of it is subscription.

I think most people will eventually drop cable.  Some who dont care about the cost will keep it because streaming is not as convenient as having everything on the same system. But I now have Netflix, Hulu, HBO Max, Prime, Paramount , Peacock, and the local channels for less than half of what I was paying for cable.   I wont live long enough to watch everything just on those six channels.

I just cut the cord with cable recently too.  My bill was getting close to $200 a month.  A lot of those charges were for ridiculous fees.  Now I just have internet and something called Philo,  a streaming service.

I dropped Hulu because I found I was only watching the Golden Girls and I have all the DVDs.  Netflix too.  When I realized I rarely tuned in I dropped it

Xfinity is my cable provider and they have something called Peacock where I can still watch my favorites like Law and Order and all their offshoots.  They just don't have all the seasons yet of the original Law and Order.  I love Sam Watterston in that show.

I also have Paramount+ which has my local news live.  The only reason I watch local news is for the traffic and weather on my way to work in the morning.

Peacock is an NBC channel. They have both a free (with ads) version and a subscription version (I think its 5 or 6 dollars a month). They have a lot of NBC shows, a lot of old tv series such as Murder She Wrote and Columbo , and many others, movies, documentaries and original series and news shows.  It has a lot of stuff on it.

Now I truly wish Swalwell would park that smirk on his face (image above) and get outraged enough to let us see him actively engaged in bringing some charge against republicans who have forsaken civility and public officials who are calling for taking up arms against their fellows! That is, it gets that much harder to persuade kids not to take up arms in schools and on the streets, when we have politicians behaving like "local thugs."
