Republicans at CPAC 2024 are openly vowing to take down democracy.

Conservative activist Jack Posobiec joyfully hailed the "end of democracy" at the Conservative Political Action Conference, further emphasizing Republicans' apparent desire to completely overthrow America as we know it.

Posobiec, who helped popularize the "Pizzagate" conspiracy theory, appeared at CPAC's opening day on Wednesday. He spoke during a panel moderated by former White House adviser and white supremacist Steve Bannon.

"Welcome to the end of democracy. We are here to overthrow it completely," Posobiec said as the event began.

"We didn't get all the way there on January 6, but we will endeavor to get rid of it and replace it with this, right here," he said, gesturing to the crowd and holding up his fist.

As he spoke, Bannon laughed and said, "Amen!"

Jack Posobiec at CPAC: "Welcome to the end of democracy. We are here to overthrow it completely. We didn't get all the way there on Jan. 6, but we will endeavor to get rid of it."

— Republican Accountability (@AccountableGOP) February 22, 2024

Posobiec then said, to cheers from the audience, "All glory is not to government. All glory to God."

Republican primary front-runner Donald Trump has repeatedly indicated he intends to embrace authoritarianism if he is reelected to the White House. Trump has paraphrased Adolf Hitler, floated horrifying and fascistic policy ideas, and joked (so he says) about being a dictator on the first day of his new term.

Trump's closest allies in Congress have also indicated they would be willing to throw out the rulebook for him. Senator J.D. Vance and Representative Elise Stefanik, both reportedly on the shortlist for Trump's running mate, have said they would have carried out a coup on January 6, 2021, to keep Trump in power.

Posobiec's comments, even delivered in a lighthearted tone, are a chilling reminder that Trump and his supporters are not speaking rhetorically. They mean everything they say.

The GOP has lost its mind.

I'm not sure that's accurate. Low attendance and little in the way of congressmen or representatives showed up. It doesn't sound like a lot of enthusiasm for what they were selling. I'm not really familiar with who puts on CPAC but the light reading about how it's changed over the years indicates to me it's losing the influence it once had. Less serious players seem to be getting involved, possibly because it has gone too far into what some call MAGA territory. The fact that names one would expect to be there from the GOP were not should at least be considered as possible evidence that the GOP has not, collectively, lost its mind.

It seems to me this article was posted to warn of the threat from the extreme right, but it seems to me it does the opposite. The more extreme the message at CPAC gets, the less the serious players get involved with it. I find that encouraging.

CPAC is all for Trump.   In that critical regard they are representative of the greater GOP mindset.   And the religious vote is a highly significant piece of this.  One of many ...    "Why Evangelicals Went All In on Trump, Again" —

My mistake. I thought we were talking about the CPAC article.

I don't follow the reasoning. How do you reach that conclusion given the lack of anyone of real note other than Trump attending and low participation? I could grant your point had it been otherwise. Since it wasn't. it suggests to me that most GOP members of any real relevance distanced themselves from the event. Even those Republicans that support him, reluctantly or enthusiastically, did not show up. I have to ask myself why.

From the TIME article link:

Trump has white evangelicals in his pocket. Whatever cognitive dissonance some devout Christians may feel for supporting

a twice-impeached serial philandering liar who tried to stage a coup and threatens violence against political opponents

is easily dismissed with the conviction that no Republican nominee, no matter how problematic, could be worse than losing to a Democrat.

Understand the American religion of fanatical partisanship and culture-warring and you understand why white evangelicals will always fall in line.

And the so-called, Evangelical "People of God" love him, because, as they put it, "He does a lot of nice things for us!'

What has become laughable is these "people of God," no longer pay homage to God to do "nice things for them." That is, instead of looking for God and angels to 'attend' their needs. . . Evangelicals are consorting with a demon and a spawn of the Devil.

It's disgusting. Puke-worthy.

And just today a viable anti-Trump candidate struggled to get out of the political 'death-grip' of the Evangelicals. .. . a 'clean' candidate named Nikki Haley and she has been spurned by the people she know and loved in her state—for a 'demon' parading around as a man.

From the Time  article (again). . .

The second reason evangelicals have rallied to Trump again is because they are not only partisans but culture warriors who still feel under attack. And despite DeSantis’s best efforts to sell himself as an anti-woke, no apologies, warrior for religious conservatives, the majority of evangelicals either never bought it or simply had more confidence in Trump as their warrior king. As journalist Tim Alberta has described the white evangelical mindset, “The barbarians are at the gates, and we need a barbarian to keep them at bay.” Trump is nothing if not a convincing barbarian.

I remember back to the 2016 election when evangelicals called candidate Trump their "King Cyrus of Persia" of the Old Testament. King Cyrus was a good man/king and a secularist. . .and, as I recall he did not have any dangerous 'skeletons' in his royal closet or stuffed under his royal bed. Anyway, evangelicals make a sophistic mess of themselves when they make comparisons of Cyrus of Persia to Donald Trump.  Trump is no "savior.' Now, the Evangelical conservatives have exposed their 'backside' to the world and we see it is not clean.

Evangelicals on the Right did not ask God for help; they did not wait on God for aid for their proposals—instead they sought this Donald, this creature, and brought it out into the public where it promptly commenced its shtick and own them over—more.

And as is his norm, Donald Trump instantly set about showing his ass, breaking customs, disregarding traditions, and ruining professional and ordinary careers, lying on friend and foe, risking lives of other people in a pandemic, and so forth and so on.

Donald Trump is every bit a menace and diabolical creature now as he has been since before 2015!  And MAGAs want it.  I repeat-Trump IS what MAGAs want without a doubt

And as long as Nikki Haley stays in this race for the GOP/MAGAs' primaries and caucuses, it become explicitly clear that MAGAs are looking for a toxic male presence to sent back into the White House (a demonic presence) and not a "child of God" as the propaganda makes it out.

Can you believe it: "Children of God" calling a demonic spirit: "Savior." It is shameful and will be placed on the accounts of the shameless!

I thought we were talking about the CPAC article.

You replied to my comment and I gave you a further explanation of it.

I don't follow the reasoning.

The GOP is, in aggregate, all-in for Trump.   CPAC is a microcosm of the GOP that is also, no surprise, all-in for Trump.

I am past the point of being surprised when a Trump supporter makes crazy comments.

My statement:

TiG@2The GOP has lost its mind.

Is not difficult to understand.   And certainly not difficult to corroborate given the GOP is all-in for Trump when they have Haley as a very good potential nominee who would clearly beat Biden and would give the GOP the historical mark of being the party of the first female PotUS.

But, no, the GOP has lost its mind and are going to nominate Trump.

Generally true. However, be that as it may, they are not "all-in" for the same reasons.

CPAC is a microcosm of the GOP that is also, no surprise, all-in for Trump.

What isn't generally true, in my opinion, is that CPAC is today a microcosm of the GOP. It was, once but not today, I think. CPAC may have gone too far to the right.

TiG @2  ☞ The GOP has lost its mind.

No, I understand well enough how you see it. However, I think you're completely wrong about Haley's chances of becoming President, even if the GOP nominates her. The voters who support Trump will write him in if they have to and that will keep Biden in the White House. I don't think the GOP chose Trump. I think his supporters chose him for them and they see this. It's either Trump or they might as well not bother. The GOP hasn't lost its mind. It is doing what is politically necessary.

Of course not.   Why are you stating the obvious?

What isn't generally true, in my opinion, is that CPAC is today a microcosm of the GOP. It was, once but not today, I think. CPAC may have gone too far to the right.

A pointless debate.   The GOP as a whole has lost its mind.   I am not interested in opinions that engage in splitting hairs on the relative rightness of CPAC.

However, I think you're completely wrong about Haley's chances of becoming President, even if the GOP nominates her.

Of course you do.

The voters who support Trump will write him in if they have to and that will keep Biden in the White House.

An act of futility and stupidity.   That makes it likely to happen yet NOT likely that they realize the consequences of their actions (which is the key problem).

I don't think the GOP chose Trump. I think his supporters chose him for them and they see this.

That is what I mean by the GOP.   The reason Trump is going to be the nominee is because of those who will vote for him.   Not the GOP as (strictly) an organization.

It's either Trump or they might as well not bother.

I disagree.   I think that the GOP is going to miss a great opportunity to get back on track.   Instead they will nominate Trump and he will likely NOT win in the general ... even against Biden.

The GOP hasn't lost its mind. It is doing what is politically necessary.

They have lost their collective mind if they think that Trump is their best shot.

You have opined your disdain for both Trump and Biden, however, you have also opined your support for Biden under certain circumstances.

You have also stated that Haley would be better than either of them.

It is highly likely that Trump will be the R nominee and probably president for another 4 years. If Trump were to pick Haley as his running mate (doesn't matter if it is likely or not), would you vote for Trump knowing the following.

Haley would be in a far better situation to becoming president under 2 options.

1. Trump becomes ill or otherwise and Haley will have to step in, or,

2. Trump will have another successful 4 years, putting Haley in great positioning to take his place in 2028, ESPECIALLY if the Ds put forth someone as crappy as Biden in 2028, and you would have yet another chance to vote for her as president.

Probably the best indicators are that since 2018 Democrats have been winning elections and special elections all over the country, even the Republican 2022 victory in the House was a mere Red Trickle, plus the surging strength of the economy, Trump's relatively weak showing in the Republican primaries to date with one third or more Republicans voting against him, the fall out from the Dobbs case and the abortion issue, and Trump's malevolent personality and absolute insanity in his public statements.

AFAIC, haley has said many times she would pardon trump if he was convicted, which I consider to be giving aid and comfort to an insurrectionist, disqualifying her from my vote. in the maga primaries, the fix is in with trump's rule changes. only some type of catastrophic change between now and the last super tuesday will alter the inevitable. to me, haley exhibits no inherent leadership qualities and her response(s) to the IVF question suggests she gets very poor campaign advice for botching that missed opportunity to attract independents by letting a potential campaign message difference with trump be wasted. with trump now taking full credit for the repeal of RvW, not only could she have directly opposed him, but also could have peeled off more reluctant trump voters in 2 camps.

She has stated she would approve a pardon for Trump so as not to divide the country. But, Trump is an opportunist. He will take her pardon. . .and then dismiss her as a fool for granting it to a him (a snake that will bite and poison her as they wade across the 'Deep.')

I take strong exception to a Haley presidency pardoning Donald Trump. Because it is time he pay for his bad acts with consequences. Else, he will 'be back' in a new iteration of, 'I did not complete my mission' and he would 'pepper' Haley's presidency ceaselessly for at least three of her four years. (Transacting one year grace-period for her granting him a pardon.)

Others feel differently. That what differing opinions are for.

"Biden's biggest negative is his age.   His biggest political negative is his inexplicable inaction on illegal immigration.  "

To this we agree

Until democrats see the failure of Biden with this, his approval will go down even further that it is now. The highly publicized stories of crimes committed by illegals will push even more independents from him, giving Trump an even better chance at a second term

"He is a vindictive, irresponsible, narcissist, demagogue asshole"

Yea, but he is an order of magnitude better than Biden as president. That is what matters most to most voters, not the personality.

"who is the only PotUS in our history to try to steal a presidential election through fraud, coercion, lying, and incitement."

Until he is convicted of such crimes, this is only an opinion. The court of public opinion does not count.

"This vindictive, cash-challenged, morally bankrupt individual with the powers of the presidency would be terrible for the nation."

Correct, however, I don't think Biden is cash strapped as evidenced by the millions he has taken in over the years using only his name as a brand. The rest I agree.

Trump's relatively weak showing in the Republican primaries to date with one third or more Republicans voting against him

Remember that many democrats are able to switch parties the day of voting and vote for a republican. It is documented that many have done just that ONLY to make it look like Haley is more popular. In four years, she will have a much better chance.  I honestly think Trump will get more votes this year than he did in 2020. Biden's crappy performance, which has brought buyers remorse from many that voted for him just because he is not Trump will go back to Trump. That, and the invasion at the southern border are indicators that I am correct.

BTW...Trump had nothing to do with the 2022 midterms.

"the fall out from the Dobbs case and the abortion issue,"

Only in the liberal ranks.

"and Trump's malevolent personality and absolute insanity in his public statements. "

It's not what a person says that matters, it's what that person does.

you must mean Biden is alleged to have millions from his name as a brand. . . . in the court of public opinion.

OK...I can see that.

However, because liberals have not actually seen video of Biden taking envelopes of cash, they believe there is zero proof, but hearing Trump say "gather peacefully and patriotically" means he tried an insurrection.

The lunacy.

The sum of the message from Trump is on video-tape. He is not alleged to have said what he said (and meant) in totality (and continues to reiterate).  Moreover, I am not looking to condemn Trump as a political matter. The man is an insult to the senses (of a liberal) and when told about it (the problem) he never ceases to make matters worse.

That is the lunacy.

1.  Large percentages of moderates (69%) and independents who voted in the South Carolina Republican primary voted against Trump.  Trump can't possibly win without the support of both of those group of voters.

2.  Biden's record as President is vastly superior to Trump's.  Trump campaigns on his personal grievances and mentions nothing about his presidency.  Why?  Because he has nothing to run on.  Oh, well there were massive tax breaks for billionaires.

3.  Trump endorsed numerous candidates in the 2022 mid-term elections and they underperformed significantly vs. non-Trump endorsed candidates.  Trump's endorsement was a drag on candidates, not a benefit.

4.  The majority of Americans support womens' reproductive freedom and vote accordingly.  Voters in several Red States have approved  recent legislative and constitutional provisions in favor of womens' right to choose, including voters in Kansas, Kentucky and Ohio.  So much for "only in the liberal ranks".

5.

It's not what a person says that matters, it's what that person does.

Campaign rhetoric is a fundamental element influencing voters' choice.  As mentioned above, Trump has no record of accomplishments to run on so his candidacy is based on selling his personal grievances and sowing division.  He is destined for another loss and further repudiation by the American people.

I wasn't referring to your non-belief in God. I was referring to what you apparently consider evidence for that non-belief. Specifically, that because God does not behave as you would expect him to, He therefore does not exist. When I responded with wondering at the reasoning behind it, you responded with the above, which answers my question. You included the conclusion in your premise. Again, thanks for answering.

Lol, as I would expect?  Too funny.  Your God acts as if most people should expect your Satan to act.  Nonreligious people everywhere are leading good and comfortable lives at the same rate as religious ones, and suffering at the same rates as well.  What kind of careless piece of shit god does absolutely nothing to affect its creation?  I am under no illusion that this reality will break through your lifelong obsession with rationalizing the supposed actions of your supposed god, but you deserve to be reminded of this reality every once in awhile.

According to this you seem to expect that God would behave a certain way, defend Himself in this case, if He really existed. You pretty much restate it again in your last post when you say...

Your God acts as if most people should expect your Satan to act.

Again, because He doesn't meet your expectations, you conclude that He doesn't exist. My original question was, from where do you get these expectations? You don't really answer that.

As for the rest of your post, I won't bother. I understand it is just a rant intended to offend.
