J.D. Vance Is Now Openly Arguing Immigration Is Bad for America
By: Yahoo News
J.D. Vance is attacking immigration as bad for economic prosperity in the United States.
In an interview on CNBC Thursday morning, the Republican vice presidential nominee said that "if the path to prosperity was flooding your nation with low-wage immigrants, then Springfield, Ohio, would be the most prosperous city in the world."
"America would be the most prosperous country in the world, because Kamala Harris has flooded the country with 25 million illegal aliens," Vance continued, citing greatly exaggerated numbers. He went on to blame inflation and lower take-home pay on a "massive influx of illegal labor."

Vance's point neatly sums up Republican thinking about immigration, particularly in the MAGA movement. However, Vance's conclusions are wrong. For example, in Springfield, business owners like Jamie McGregor, the CEO of the town's McGregor Metal plant, credit Haitian immigrants with helping to fill a labor shortage.
"I mean, the fact of the matter is, without the Haitian associates that we have, we had trouble filling these positions," McGregor told NPR in August about a need in his factory that Haitian workers helped to fill.
Also, earlier this week, Vance complained that Haitian immigrants were driving housing prices up in Springfield. This is actually an indication that the economy in the town is improving. As NPR reported, in the years prior to Haitian immigrants' arrival in Springfield, the town's population and wealth were dropping as the auto industry, once a major local employer, was declining. An increase in housing prices would indicate a reversal in fortunes.
As far as the stature of the United States, it is the most prosperous country in the world, with the highest gross domestic product, even per capita. Economic experts say that immigration as a whole is a check on inflation and helps job growth as well. And immigrants, even the undocumented, tend to contribute more in taxes than they pay—with undocumented immigrants being ineligible for most, if not all, federal welfare programs.
Vance is parroting Republican orthodoxy on immigrants being at the root of economic difficulty for native-born Americans. And his ideas seem to be influenced by the right's racist ideas of an immigrant invasion taking over the U.S. If Vance really thinks immigration is bad for the country, he should talk to his wife, Usha, daughter of two Indian immigrants.

J.D. Vance is so STUPID he doesn't know that the U.S. already is the most prosperous country in the world.
Well, maybe he should be relegated for a short time to do the kind of jobs people born in America don't like to do like washing dishes in a restaurant or field work on a farm and picking the fruit in California.
My sister lived in California for a while and lived with a Hispanic family - and did some field labor - strawberry picking - it was back breaking work.
We had a strawberry farm when I was growing up, it is back breaking (the honeybee hives were not fun either)
My wife, who grew up on a farm, has staked out about a 2 acre vegetable farm near the mountains that are within walking distance, where she goes early most mornings. For her it's a labour of love, and we eat wonderful absolutely fresh veggies, and I particularly enjoy the corn. The people here are so honest. Others farm beside her and NOBODY takes from another's plot but they often trade when their produce is different. I've noticed how honest people are. The groceries just throw a tarp over their outdoor stands for overnight, and when packages are delivered to the doorr, nobody touches them.
That's awesome. Two acres? That's huge.
Ooops! I was guessing. I just did a calculation and it's actually about a half an acre. I never was that good in math.
Meanwhile the Haitians are eating your pets is bringing bomb threats to Springfield,
It's a very serious problem.
The scumbag traitor keeps saying it at his 'campaign' events.
That's why there were bomb threats and school and municipal building evacuations and closures in Springfield, Ohio yesterday and today. 100% the fault of Trump and Vance. Reprehensible. They're terrorists.
If those false accusations cause someone to be harmed or killed, then your hallowed "Freedom of Speech" could use some common sense limitations.
"JD Vance, the Republican vice-presidential nominee, said Sunday that he stood by the debunked claims he and former President Donald J. Trump have spread suggesting Haitian migrants were eating pets, saying that he was willing “to create stories so that the American media actually pays attention .” - Vance Sticks By Pet-Eating Claims and Says He’s Willing to ‘Create Stories’ - The New York Times (nytimes.com)
So now the story is he admits to lying, but claims it was for a good cause. Can this fool get any weirder?
Try reading again.
It is against the law to yell fire in a crowded theater when none exists - this is what the former 'president' and vance do to the maga - yell fire in a crowded theater which is the US and they act.
So what spin are you imagining that can turn "create stories" into anything other than what it is aka making shit up?
Actually I had become very interested in the Freedom of Speech issue some time ago (during the "Mohammed Cartoon Crisis) and actually read a lot of Supreme Court cases on the subject.
IIRC, the basic conclusion of The Supremes was the we had freedom of speech up until it actually advocated violence. For example, a person had a right to say any particular group of people was inferior, etc. That's allowed.
In that situation, however, where they drew the line was while you could say theywere inferior-- but if you then advocated going out and attacking them-- that was not allowed.
. Pay attention to his words. He specifically said his office received reports of this taking place among the other problems in Springfield. By amplifying these reports he and Trump created a national story around the claims made by his constituents.[✘]
J. D. Vance wanted to be and is a senator, he has staff. Surely, an honest person would not lie to the media, just to garner attention for his cause. . . and most definitely an honest person would NEVER endanger vulnerable people over an UNVETTED lie! J. D. Vance is not fit to lead a great nation such as this!
Stop spreading disinformation, J. D.! Indeed, we would not accept any disinformation (deliberate lying) from children. . . Vance is not a good role model for kids! He is a man full of deceitfulness!
Canada has criminal laws against hate speech and speech that can or does cause harm to people.
That's better than I suspected, but IMO still not good enough.
"If I have to create stories so that the American media actually pays attention to the suffering of the American people then that's what I'm going to do," - JD Vance
That doesn't sound at all like he's saying he's "amplifying" stories or giving them a wider audience, he is admitting to creating stories.
create: verb - bring (something) into existence.
You can make excuses for him all day long, but the fact remains he admitted to making shit up.
The man is admitting to gaslighting his 'public' and his constituents and still some gloss over the admission! Crooked Donald and J. D. are a 'disaster'!
Lol. If you watched the video of the interview and not just an edited clip, and that's your takeaway, there's really nothing more that needs to be said.[✘]
No. He didn't. How can you claim that with the video publicly available? Very dishonest.
Gaslighting is not a good thing to allow to happen. This hails back to 2016 and Donald's wording; "Many people say. . . ." That is, create (make stuff up out of 'whole cloth') a narrative in one's head, go out in the public and recite the 'created' narrative - including spoon-feeding it to Fox News and et al 'affiliates' of the RNC, and then pass it off as: "Many people say. . . ."
Gaslighting is gaslighting. It's most dishonest to create a 'circular ' narrative and attempt to pass it off as valid. It is a logical error!
"Very dishonest" describes Trump and Vance using neo-Nazi originated lies that Haitian people in Springfield, OH, are eating people's pets. Disgusting.
It's truly dishonest. (Sigh!) Looks like our country is being asked to choose:
1. Rule of Law. Truth and Integrity.
2. Robber barons. Dividers, liars, 'cut-throats,' and schemers of how to trick others into doing what is wrong for their general welfare.
He also doesn't realize that unless a person is descended from Indians ("Native Americans")-- they are all descendents of immigrants.
(Well technically speaking I guess the slaves were not immigrants-- but the point is they didn't originate in North America either)
There is a theory (I don't know whether its finally been proven or disproven) that Indians ancestors were originally from Asia-- and crossed over to what is now Alaska-- and eventually their descendents migrated all the way down to Tierra del Fuego (the Southernmost part of South America).
If true, it could be said that even "Native Americans" are descended from immigrants!
Indeed, I read that too in this book:
I read about those theories long ago-- I assume by now its been proven?
We should ask #Kavika he should know.
The book is circa 2023. I very much doubt they proved anything, but the evidence is extremely persuasive (and logical).
Where else would Native Americans have come from other than Asia.
Most theories place the origins in Asia with different routes. There are however theories of ice bridges from Europe and other various theories.
But theories are different from proof. There is no absolute proof of anything. And importantly, there is no single theory that has wiped out all alternatives.
I am very confident that NA and Eskimos came from Asia via the Bering Land Bridge. This is the most popular theory and makes the most sense (to me).
I'll have to disagree with some of your conclusions, TiG.
My keyboard is a mss and I try to post my reply using by phon.
On my phone, it is my opinion if your ancestors didn’t look like mine you are an immigrant, period.
next the Bering strait theory is, IMO partially accurate especially since the discovery of an unknown civilization in NE Siberian with strong dna links to SOME na’s a few years ago. It is my opinion that there were more than one migration and from more than one source. Polynesia and SE Asia are strong contenders. A few years ago the oldest dna was discovered in a Blackfoot Indian in Montana. 17,000 years they traced it back to so cal with Polynesian blood as part of his dna. It is also difficult to explain away in some of the people of Easter island. I could go on my that is enough for now. Yes, I have read the book, interesting but in reality unproven theories.
l’ll stick with my great grand parents born around 1830 they said we have always been here and and spoken to their great grand parents into the early 1700s who can follow our/my dna into the late 1500 early 1600.
I have to add that I did enjoy the book and the author's approach to the subject matter.
per the Code Talkers movie, aren't there a handful of Japanese words that are the same or similar meaning
in many NA languages?
non that I'm aware of SP.
But-- how did they get to Asia in the first place?
Interstellar Shuttles.
ocean going canoes...
J. D. Vance is too young to be 'old-fogey.' I can't prove this, having never met the man, but I. . . he probably has a mothball. . .or several mothballs in his wearable suit jacket at any given moment.
I don't know what it is, but as the sayin' goes:
There's something not right about that boy.
Is there no end to the outrageous lying? When will people wake up and realize that both Trump and Vance are entirely full of shit?
The national population of illegals was 11 million in 2022 and has been generally steady since Bush's second term.
If Vance were correct, our nation has more than tripled the number of illegal immigrants during the Biden administration ... that would mean our current illegal population is 36+ million. Not even close.
Well, there's an olde sayin':
Its easier to fool people than it is to convince them that they've be fooled
--Attributed to Mark Twain
And while we're on the subject:
A lie gets halfway around the world before the truth has a chance to get its pants on.
--Winston Churchill
Is there no end to the outrageous lying? When will people wake up and realize that both Trump and Vance are entirely full of shit?
My guess is that many of Trump's supporters will never wake up. Intelligence worldwide is mostly distributed on a bell curve-- there are many people-- at one end-- that are just plain stupid. Most will never wake up.
(And these are the people that Trump-- as well as other con artists-- love!)
What Donald and J. D. are doing is playing on the suckers (low-information voters) in the country (no matter who they are or what they look like on the outside) with intent to take whatever number of those folks they can.
As he is ranting, the numbers just go up and up and up - 10, 15, 20 million immigrants flooding the border
Didn't most Americans descend from immigrants?
All Americans descended from immigrants. We all originated in Africa.
Which does beg the question. . . that there is so much historical 'disrespect' for the continent and its people majorly from some conservatives, namely Donald Trump. But, that is a larger discussion for another day!
Can't answer, I've made a point not to talk to that man. BTW, he isn't a conservative but more of a progressive populist wanting to grows the power of central government in all aspects of our life.
More of a populist-authoritarian - 'Wannabe' (with the help of enough trumpists). J.D. Vance is a populist-Authoritarian "wannabe -in waiting."
Is Trump a Populist Authoritarian?
Both the progressive and an authoritarian agenda requires centralizing power at the federal level.
Good. I go with Donald: The populist-authoritarian ("Wannabe 2025").
Once a believer, always a believer.
That partial quote is misleading!
So is Trump!
One of the main characteristics of real (traditional) Conservatives is that they've always advocated smaller government. less government interference in our lives.
Trump (and the MAGA crowd) want "Big Government"--- much more interference in every aspect of our lives.
Trumpists have come to a conclusion they have need of Crooked Donald as their authoritarian to take and keep control of the country. To make non-Trumpists mind Trumpists. (It won't happen, nevertheless.)
I've heard that theory as well.
I wonder how much real proof there is for some of these theories?
(Possibly no one knows for sure where the first humans originated? Another possibility is that variants of the first humans originated at about the szame time in more than one place on the planet?)
that isn't where the garden of eden was...
Funny how right wingers here like to say that the left is always bringing race into the conversation. Race is the centerpiece of todays Republican Party.
How was Harris chosen as VP again?
What was the two main criteria Biden gave for someone to be his VPpick?
There you go again. Race race race.
Well you are close.
Harris was chosen because of her gender and , yes, her race.
I see you were torn between race and gender on that one. Identity politics has got you all wound up.
What qualifications does Harris have to be VP other than her gender and her race?
Gee, according to some here she was not qualified at all and had to use sexual favors as the only way to advance.
not torn at all. I was very specific when I said Biden chose her race AND her gender to pick her.
Don’t put words in my mouth that were not said just so you will have something to argue.
I specifically said her race and gender were the reasons why he chose her. He obviously did not cate about any other qualifications.
Gee, what were the circumstances again how she got her start in SF pokitics?
My entire post was a single question:
How do you imagine someone 'puts words in your mouth' by asking a question about your post? How is that possible?
Yeah I read your post. I did not ask about Biden's reasons, I asked your opinion:
What qualifications does Harris have to be VP other than her gender and her race?
[✘]
you're hitting from the wrong tee box ...
Assuming you meant politics...
Willie Brown claims credit for promoting the careers of Nancy Pelosi (1987), Barbara Boxer, Gavin Newsom (1997), Diane Feinstein and Kamala Harris 1990. He will likewise never talk about Maxine Waters. He is currently laying the groundwork for the great things expected of the Governor of Maryland, Wes Moore.
Harris graduated law school,
passed the BAR
and worked as a deputy district attorney eventually getting elected DA.
After winning that first DA election Harris distanced herself from Brown
while becoming the State AG
and eventually US Senator from CA, the state with the largest population.
That's her qualifications, her constituents have elected her over and over again to higher and higher offices.
81 million people voted for her on the Biden / Harris ticket.
She has had no other employer than our citizens for 34 years, maybe that was an additional attraction for Biden who is in his 49th year of elected public service.
Gee, I hope that helps you out.
'Do better'
Some should heed their own advice...

Weak sauce for somebody desperate to say she isn't qualified.
Yes you have been arguing her qualifications for weeks now.
Welcome to LIFE 101.
The fact is she DID meet Willie Brown - none of us can change that
and her job performance in California and many reelections prove your opinion from Florida is incorrect.
Bill Clinton had friends in high places as did the Bush family and the Kennedy clan.
If JD Vance never met Peter Theilen no one would have heard of him and he would not be a Senator or a VP candidate.
No one was more connected by fate than Ike D Eisenhower, another general with zero political experience.
Everyone is connected somehow to some defining moment or relationship in their past.
Get over it.
Well, that 'very good chance' did not fail to happen. It is what it is. Unless,. . . some conservatives have a 'way back time machine.' Besides, Ms. Harris does not owe some conservatives any explanation for whom she blesses with her freedom and choices of spent quality time. It's hypocritical to ask her to accept judgement from some conservatives who do not adequately judge their own.
Gov't experience during years of being Vice President?
In what way was she not qualified?
Also lying about Tim Walz's honorable service.
While that might be true, its might be a bit misleading.
Why? because what they want is variety-- diversity. What politicians do in picking a VP candidate is not only someone who's qualified-- but someone who will help the ticket win.
One thing that's been a political truth for a long long time: pick a VP candidate who appeals to a slightly different group than the Pres. candidate. If the Pres. candidate is from The South, you pick a VP candidate from another area-- not the South. If the pres candidate is from New England, the you pick a candidate from the South-- or the Midwest-- of the Left Coast.
JFK (from new England) is the perfect example-- the Dems picked LBJ (a Southerner) as his running mate! (In fact you could argue that a Texan might "qualify' as both a Southerner and a "Westerner").
(What politicians often called a "balanced ticket").
A "balanced ticket" could also mean the Pres candidate if "White" should have a Veep from a "non-White race"-- and vice versa.
But that's relatively new.
Why?
Because in modern times, up until Obama was elected, most people felt "America wasn't ready for a 'Black' president. So race wan't a factor in aiming for "diversity"-- but geography was.
In terms of who's qualified to pick as a Veep candidate-- that's not as much of an issue as many people think. Why? Because picking a VP candidate there a lot of possibilities-- given all the people of a specific party in The House, The Senate, Governors, Mayors-- even state legislators-- there are quite a few who are qualified.
So traditionally one of the main factors in picking a VP candiate is diversity.
(And sometimes the belief that one stae where is close should have one of its politicians considered as they might help "carry the state"?)
For starters, she's been a Vice president for a while-- so its reasonable to assume she's beenarounf the White House-- and a President-- for a while. So she's knoes about how that office (president) works.
And, there is this. . . .
Article II, Section 1, Clause 5:
No Person except a natural born Citizen, or a Citizen of the United States , at the time of the Adoption of this Constitution, shall be eligible to the Office of President; neither shall any Person be eligible to that Office who shall not have attained to the Age of thirty five Years , and been fourteen Years a Resident within the United States .
I was asking Bugsy to state the qualifications Harris had to be V.P. (not PotUS) because he claims she was selected merely because she was a black female.
Obviously (and predictably) he is not going to respond because he knows she has plenty of qualifications to be selected V.P. but an honest non-partisan admission that she is more than simply a black female is too high a bar.

the reliable divisive rwnj go-to for 60 years...
They used to have some degree of plausible deniability. Now their standard bearer openly doubles down on black people having black jobs.
Donald Trump is completely out of control now. He is opening lying about nearly everything - everyday (the proverbial "kitchen sink" of lying) and the replacement GOP continues to murmur and shiver in their collective shoes and boots under their 'strongman.' We can not respect this GOP - at all. Effing liars - nearly all of them that are left in their so-called "party"!
black jobs, I don't know what that means, so you need to tell me what your "black jobs" were. just generally speaking, with no names or places that some people might use for any nefarious purposes, like in ohio...
I think Crooked Donald means field work. Because every other 'black job' I have had in life. . .non-blacks have held too! And no, I have never worked in the fields. Though, I do remember one summer job doing 'brick-salvaging' from scrape 'left over' masonry.
In any case, Donald only brings up 'black jobs' and 'hispanic jobs' as a ploy to detract, feign interest, and pit people of color communities against immigrants (he does not wish to see in the country).
I voted twice for a black man for president.
Something I would never do for a man of low morals such as Trump.
I voted
for a black man once. [✘] does that make me less of a ‘far right wing fascist’ to you?
I think you already know how I feel about you.
Awesome

the proverbial "kitchen sink" of lying
And worse yet-- a proverbial "kitchen sink" ...filled with a proverbial "word salad".
The world would be a better place if politicians eat more salads... (instead of other stuff)
If the migrants were 90% white we wouldnt be hearing jack shit about the "invasion". Everyone knows that.
Immigration from 'shithole' countries eats away at the "fabric" of the nation, white, European, "western civilization" (which is a code for ethnically pure Judeo-Christian. )
And to that end, we really don't read or hear any complain about whites entering the country. . . from the fake GOP, and Donald's trumpists. They have the gall to actually LIE about legal immigrants from Haiti . . . in order to steal an election on exploitation of unfounded fear.
I don't think we're going to make the aryan bloodline cut ...
'and brings down America'
I dunno JR, I distinctly remember the racism/nationalism and prejudices of the 50s and 60s in Philadelphia; Blacks, Irish, Italians and Germans had clear neighborhood delineations which didn't begin to break down until the 70's when the boomers insisted on marrying who they pleased with or without family approval and living where they pleased.
My great, great grandparents on mom's side immigrated from Ireland and were looked down on.
My father's parents immigrated from Germany running from Hitler and were looked down on.
I only look down on bigots, racists and the willfully ignorant who hate the "other".
But-- how can you determine "racisl purity" (if that's what's important to you?)
Emphatically. I look down on bigots, racists, and "otherizers."
I was surpised to learn that initially Irish immigrants were looked donw upon-- and discriminated agaigaint. There were signs of business and stores look for new employees:
NO IRISH NEED APPLY
Many have come a long way-- not many of the wealthy CEOs of large corporations are not only WASPs-- but many are Irish!
And in the tech sector-- many CEOs are from India.
(Many ofwhich are often considered to be "non-White")
Exactly, just like those progressive Western European and Scandinavian countries that we used to think represented a racial utopia..
Well they were-- sort of.
Over time the formerly leftist Scandinavian countries have changed-- now strongly limited immigration.
(In fact I believe i've read that some of them are paying sigificant sums of money to leave and return to the countries they came from) !!!
.
It is the nature of a pendulum to swing back and forth - you know, adjustments as needed.
Full Stop. "Baseless conspiracy" spreading is a disqualifier for an executive of the U.S. government. As a nation, are we really considering allowing conspiracy theorists to run unchecked in-charge of this nation and by extrapolation leading the world?
Lol can't speak about the overall immigration situation, but I know US sports would not be as high calibre without immigrants. Hockey would be high school level at best, baseball would be rec league, basketball would be lesser than it is and football would probably be about the same
It is important to note that we would not have had Einstein (born in Germany) or Oppenheimer (born to German immigrants to New York) without immigration. J. D. Vance is full of lies and stupidity, but he is a partisan and for his purposes that is what counts!
Some how conservatives think it is their privilege to pick and choose who can be a citizen in this country. What a croc!
Chances are an American Citizen could have developed those ideas.
[✘]
Well, 'they' didn't. Immigrant/children (foreign and domestic born) did it. Facts are what they are and should be treated with proper respect.
No.
but they didn't
What sports did Einstein and Oppenheimer play
Their games-- and challenges-- were competition on an intellectual (and predominantly "non phyical") level...
Lol so not sports
And perhaps ironically-- many of the largest corporations in the tech sector have Indiaian CEOs (one reason being that many American kids don't want to go into tech-- so we need to give special visa to Indians (Desis) who do.
