Update, and New Endeavors
Nope. Not dead. Not yet anyway.
But I will give an update on things here at the Tarleton Dog Run Ranch, home of the Big Cocks.
For those of you following Penny and her fight with Breast Cancer, everything is fine. She had a complete scan earlier this year, with no indication of new tumors or growth of old. Her cancer markers are monitored on a monthly basis and have shown no signs of increase. Her Oncologist is happy with the treatment she has been on, and is also very excited about new drugs that have had several years of testing and history that show real progress. While she's not ready to shift her treatment plan, she says she has a larger grocery list to choose from than she did 3 years ago. So we're good with where she is right now.
The chickens and Cocks are doing well. As are the goats. And this year we have added a new miniature donkey to the herd. Charlie was born on Jun 22 of this year. He's a funny little guy that keeps testing my fence building skills.
Sometime after Charlie was born, Penny found a wee little creature who lost it's mommy. She heard a little squeak one night right outside the front door. At first she thought it was a baby bird. But soon discovered it was in fact a baby Opossum. I was at work, and told her to get rid of it. But the humanitarian in her decided that every creature deserves a chance. And so, we are now fostering a baby possum. In fact, two of them. And we are in the process of getting licensed by the Missouri Department of Conservation as Opossum Rehabilitaters, Because, apparently there are precious few of them in our area. Both of these babies have been raised on formula first, then soft baby foods, and have now moved to eating mice I catch from my shed. Penny doesn't care to watch that, but I find it kinda neat to watch them crush mice skulls with their jaws.
So that's the update. I'll post more later.
MAGA!
all seems well in Uncle Bruce's world
Glad to hear that Penny is holding her own.
Ditto to both - and you are missed.
Jeepers, we feed our "pet" Possums
bananas and rotten pears, apples, basically anything beyond use except citrus.
They eat what ever feed corn and peanuts the ducks leave behind, lol
the baby possums prefer bananas
and good for Penny, too.
I don't know how you do it with the little critters. I found two small possums on the railing of my front porch once. They were not newborns but small. Didn't like me at all. Hissed at me. They were gone the next day so I don't know what happened to them. Sadly about a month later I found out why they were alone. Found the remains of the mother out back in an old (unused) chicken coop.
Hey Bruce,
First of all, glad to hear about Penny. That is wonderful news.
Love your baby donkey. So cute!
I think it's really cool that you are fostering possums. They keep the environment clean and are N. Americas only marsupials.
Things seem good at the ranch.
I had a pet rat when I was in HS. Great pet. Very smart, very clean and easy to train, (yes, really). I named him Rommel.
Good to see ya Bruce, glad all is well. My wifes name is Penny. And Possums? Well, possum joke then.
How many possums does it take to have sex?
Three.
Two to do it and one to watch for cars.
So glad to hear your bride Penny is well, Uncle Bruce. For all your usual bluster it sounds like you're a softy with the animals, lol.
1. Happy that all is well on your end, especially regarding Penny's health.
2. Charlie is way too cute.
3. You know I love you more than my vast collection of CFM pumps (each pair with color-coordinated nipple tassels), but feel free to stick that hat where the sun don't shine.
Good news is always welcome. Glad you're back. Have you named the Opossums? "Pogo" seems to me to be a fitting name for one of them. LOL
I'm thinking crimson and clover.
Always glad when old friends return from an absence.
There you are!! Welcome back! And with good news about Penny. So very glad to hear that she is now cancer free, and there is a new drug that she can add to her grocery list to also help if/when needed going forward.
Your little Charlie is adorable. Makes me want to hug him up. And now Penny has an Opossum to raise? How wonderful. Bless her for wanting to give the babies a chance at life. I used to raise little rats, and they are adorable as well. They are really strong too! They are quick learners and very affectionate. It looks like the little Opossums have made themselves quite at home, and do their part to help with the mice control. (grin)
It's always good to have you back with us when time allows. Good Friends are always welcome. (smile)
