Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez claimed on Sunday that "almost 10" people died from the Jan. 6 Capitol riot, an inflated estimate that apparently includes those not killed directly during the mayhem.

The New York Democrat said the "terror attack" left 138 injured and "almost 10 dead" despite the fact that only one death was directly caused by the insurrection.

"Any member of Congress who helped plot a terrorist attack on our nation's capitol must be expelled," she tweeted. "This was a terror attack. 138 injured, almost 10 dead. Those responsible remain a danger to our democracy, our country, and human life in the vicinity of our Capitol and beyond."

The only death directly caused by the Capitol riot was that of Ashli Babbitt, who was shot by an officer inside the Capitol. Babbitt, 35, was a former Air Force veteran who visited the Capitol to support former President Donald Trump. Ocasio-Cortez's estimate likely referred to the deaths of Trump supporters Kevin Greeson, 55, and Benjamin Phillips, 50, both of whom died of heart problems, or "hypertensive atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease," and their deaths were deemed "natural."
Ocasio-Cortez was also likely including the deaths of Rosanne Boyland, 34, whose "accidental" death was precipitated by "acute amphetamine intoxication," or drug use, and Capitol Police Officer Brian Sicknick, whose "cause of death" on Jan. 7 was "acute brainstem and cerebellar infarcts due to acute basilar artery thrombosis," or a stroke, and "manner of death" was "natural," according to the chief medical examiner for Washington, D.C.

On Monday, a handful of GOP politicians lashed out at a report accusing them of involvement in planning the details of rallies and electoral certification objection on Jan. 6 ahead of the riot at the Capitol building, either personally or through staff. Democrats have accused their Republican counterparts of culpability, with Ocasio-Cortez alleging that Sen. Ted Cruz "almost had me murdered" by supporting the objection to the certification of President Joe Biden's victory.
The left-wing politician previously said she was "in therapy" due to the "trauma" of the Jan. 6 riot.

Well, does that mean that AOC is "almost" intelligent? Nah, probably not...
There was no insurrection or terrorist attack that day. Nothing to apologize for. It is the deep state and the federal law enforcement informants and under cover ops that instigated it into what the planned peaceful protest turned into.
Who even says “almost 10?” If it was some bigger number, I could see. You might not say 987, for example. You’d maybe say “almost 1000.” But almost 10? Just say the number, whatever it is.
And for “almost” to be valid, I think you need to get more than halfway (or preferably 80 or 90%) there. Like 8 or 9 is “almost 10.” 1 is not “almost 10.”
Five died the day of 01/06,
Four Capital police involved that day committed suicide and their families, at least, blame that days events.
Nine is almost ten.
But it is the Examiner, which contends only one person was actually killed in the mayhem,

That statement said autopsies concluded that Kevin Greeson, 55, of Athens, Ala., and Benjamin Philips, 50, of Ringtown, Pa., died of natural causes due to cardiovascular disease "The medical examiner ruled that Rosanne Boyland, 34, of Kennesaw, Ga., died of accidental acute amphetamine intoxication."
Not to quibble, but she was found at the bottom of this scrum and I understand that there is actually video of the event
Intoxicated or not, she is dead.
Funny that someone who aspired to be a sobriety counselor would die of an overdose.

To stay on topic, AOC's comment of almost ten, is still as reasonable as the Examiner only listing one fatality.

“Almost 10” remains a stupid way to put it.
She says it that way because she wants you to feel like it’s even worse than it actually was. The truth is never sufficient. We must exaggerate to ensure the appropriate level of outrage.
She has a history of this kind of hyperbole. She has previously talked about how she was afraid for her life even though she was nowhere near this mob and that several members of Congress were “nearly assassinated.” She has a penchant for melodrama.
What I dont understand is why anyone thinks AOC said something objectionable. If x number of people died at the Capitol on Jan 6, anyone who wants to can ascribe those deaths to the events of the day. If a MAGA had a grabber because he got too excited about seeing the crowd storm the building, then it is a riot related death.
This whole thread teeters on pointlessness.

If the death is not directly related to the protest (you like Ashli Babbitt) then IT'S NOT RELATED. For all we know the "protest related suicide" inducted act brought on by family / financial problems.
And this is the "best and brightest" the Democrats have? She should have stuck to serving drinks.
So which is it dip shit? Are you calling the protest a "terror attack" or an "insurrection"? Maybe her credibility wouldn't be as shitty if she wouldn't contradict herself in a single sentence. Having correct information would help as well.
