ABC’s "The View" co-host Whoopi Goldberg declared the   Holocaust   was "not about race" despite the systematic killing of an estimated six million Jews, leading to sharp criticism of the outspoken liberal.

The daytime gabfest was in the midst of a conversation about a Tennessee school district voting to remove a Pulitzer Prize winning graphic novel about  the Holocaust  from its curriculum due to "inappropriate language" and an illustration of a nude woman. "Maus" by Art Spiegelman tells the story of his Jewish parents living in 1940s Poland and depicts him interviewing his father about his experiences as a Holocaust survivor.

Ana Navarro mentioned a Florida bill that could prevent any conversation in schools that makes students feel uncomfortable race or gender, prompting Sunny Hostin to ponder if teaching students about topics like the Holocaust could eventually be prohibited.

"The Holocaust isn’t about race," Goldberg said as her co-hosts appeared stunned.

"No, it’s not about race," Goldberg continued.

Joy Behar said, "Well, they considered Jews a different race."

"It’s not about race," Goldberg reiterated.

"What is it about?" Behar asked.

"It’s about man’s inhumanity to man, that’s what it’s about," Goldberg said.

"But it’s about a White supremacist going after Jews and Gypsies," Navarro said as Goldberg attempted to speak over her.

"But these are two White groups of people," Goldberg said as her colleagues disagreed.

She was told Nazis didn’t consider Jewish people to be "White" but continued with her point nonetheless.

"You’re missing the point," Goldberg insisted. "The minute you turn it into race, it goes down this alley. Let’s talk about it for what it is. It’s how people treat each other. It’s a problem. It doesn’t matter if you’re Black, or White, cause Black ,White, Jews, Italians, everybody eats each other."

Goldberg was pilloried online for her take, as Nazi Germany leader Adolf Hitler believed in a "master race" and attempted the complete elimination of the Jewish race in Europe.

One writer said Goldberg's statement perfectly captured "the absolute ignorance of the non-Jewish world, encouraged by the mainstream media, when it comes to understanding the Holocaust," adding Goldberg should "open a god---n book."

Per the new rules, every left wing  person and politician who doesn't denounce Whoopi Goldberg endorses her position.

What part of “Master Race” is confusing?

I guess some people assume that race isn’t a thing unless one person is obviously white and the other obviously black. But the reality of human history is that we have made people into “the other” based on the flimsiest of differences. For example, just look at the way German, Irish, or Italian immigrants were viewed in this country. Hell, just look at English versus Scottish.

Meanwhile, black people discriminate against other black people because they are perceived to be “light skinned” or “dark skinned. Surely, she must know this.

Well, if you hold your head like this, raise your left arm over your head, put your right hand behind your back and lean as far forward as you can without falling, I can sort of see what she might have been trying to say....         maybe.

If she was trying to make the point that race is just the excuse people use to be bad to each other, she could have done a lot better job of it. If she meant something like that, then yeah, I'd like to know if she applies it to herself as well, when the parties are obviously white and black.

Yeah if the victim is black, I very much doubt she’d be giving the oppressor the benefit of the doubt and just dismiss it as man’s typical inhumanity to man.

Imagine giving MF Nazis the benefit of the doubt.

Whoopi Goldberg is just flat out DUMB as a box of rocks.

I know many progressives have championed her and the other airheads on The View, but as Biden says, "C'mon, man!".

It sounds like Whoopi's mind wandered.  There is no doubt that Hitler believed Jews were an inferior race. In fact neo-Nazis believe that to this day.

Whoopi Goldberg is just a more widely known version of a radio talk show host. Misinformation comes out of their mouths fairly often.

Wandered? Joy Behar reminded of her that fact and Whoopi still rejected it. She was given a chance to reconsider, but instead, she doubled down.

Her mind wandered and didnt return.

Happy now?

I dont know that anyone on earth sees Whoopi Goldberg as an arbiter of historic facts or what is or isnt race based. She is an entertainer.

That is rather funny, seeing as how many liberals seem to get their "news" from late-night comedians.

Maybe it's just because Whoopi is on daytime tv?

I see nothing entertaining about this.

"Race" has been defined narrowly by traditional Anthropology to identify persons by physical differences, which is what Whoopi Goldberg appears to have done, but the definition of "race" has become less restrictive, as described in Wikipedia:

Race

Human Categorization
.
A race is a categorization of humans based on shared physical or social qualities into groups generally viewed as distinct within a given society. The term was first used to refer to speakers of a common language and then to denote national affiliations. By the 17th century, the term began to refer to physical traits. Modern science regards race as a social construct, an identity which is assigned based on rules made by society. While partially based on physical similarities within groups, race does not have an inherent physical or biological meaning.
When I took a course in Anthropology in university in the 1950s I was taught that there were only three actual races: Caucasian, Mongolian and Negroid, determined by physical characteristics such as skin colour (white, yellow, black) and other physiological differences, and any others would be a mix of those. But obviously the defining factors of "race" have been greatly expanded in many ways.  "Race" is more commonly and recently defined by The Free Dictionary:
.

race 1

(rās)
n.
1. A group of people identified as distinct from other groups because of supposed physical or genetic traits shared by the group. Most biologists and anthropologists do not recognize race as a biologically valid classification, in part because there is more genetic variation within groups than between them.
2. A group of people united or classified together on the basis of common history, nationality, or geographic distribution: the Celtic race.
3. A genealogical line; a lineage.
4. Humans considered as a group.
5. Biology
a. A usually geographically isolated population of organisms that differs from other populations of the same species in certain heritable traits: an island race of birds.
b. A breed or strain, as of domestic animals.
6. A distinguishing or characteristic quality, such as the flavor of a wine.
As I see it, Whoopi is being crucified for defining "race" in its most restrictive meaning.

Whoopi is either deliberately or ignorantly rejecting a known truth about the Nazis. It’s bizarre. The Nazis loudly and proudly told the world that race was their motivation. Hitler compared Jews to rodents and disease. Nazi propaganda used the term untermensch, meaning “subhuman” to describe Jews. They did this also for Slavs, Russians, and other white groups, and of course blacks and LGBT people. Hitler Youth were taught in Biology classes that Jews were of an inferior race.

I find the whole thing so strange. Many people get accused of racism and deny it, but the accusations come anyway. The Nazis are proud of being racist and Whoopi insists they’re not. Whoopi might not see race, but the Nazis sure as hell did.

Which also rebuts Ana Navarro’s claim that hitler was a white supremacist.

No it doesn’t. Again: The Nazis saw race. You may not see it. Whoopi may not see it. But the Nazis did see it and that’s what matters.

I have no idea what you are talking about. Of course the Nazis saw race.  But to call someone a "white supremacist" who thought white people (slavs) were subhuman makes no sense.  Not to mention the high regard he held the Han Chinese and Japanese, the "Aryans of the East"

azis didn't see Slavs as white.

While Slaves and Poles are white, that's not how Hitler saw the world. Thus Japanese were equals to Aryans but Poles were subhuman. Or the upper English class could be Aryan while the lower English class were of inferior racial stock.  Hitler had insane racist theories, but it wasn't "white supremacy", it was "Aryan Supremacy", and those weren't interchangeable terms to Hitler.

What it comes down to is this: Whoopi says the holocaust is just a simple example of humans being mean to other humans. That’s 100% wrong and grossly understates what was going on.

As I said, again and AGAIN and AGAIN and AGAIN, that Whoopi Goldberg used the most restrictive interpretation of the word "race", and tried to explain what I meant by using the example of the FACT that both Adolph Hitler and Albert Einstein were CAUCASIANS, which does NOT mean that I AGREED that Whoopi Goldberg was CORRECT in describing the manner in which the Nazis used the word "race".

I wish those who have probably never studied anthropology would go read a book on the subject and get the fuck off my back.
