'Authorities' panic over COVID protests, dissent – here's why
When historians review how our nation dealt with this pandemic, our political leaders will be excused for mistakes made. In responding to a fast-moving once-in-a-lifetime virus that threatened wholesale death, our mayors and governors – and two presidents – made quick decisions based on inadequate information but recommended by health experts who did the best they could. 'Authorities' panic over COVID protests, dissent – here's why

Challenges to lockdowns and mask mandates have been viewed as undermining society

NEW You can now listen to Fox News articles!

What are the "authorities" so afraid of?

Why are Canadian truckers protesting vaccine mandates considered a threat? The Freedom Convoy has garnered enormous popular support but is condemned by the liberal media and dismissed by Canada’s unpopular Prime Minister Justin Trudeau as a "small fringe minority."

Prodded by Canadian authorities, GoFundMe moved to confiscate and redistribute $10 million raised to support the drivers, prompting such outrage that they pivoted to returning the money to the original donors. A like-minded U.S. group, "Convoy to DC 2022," attracted 130,000 members to its Facebook page before it was taken down by the social media giant.

JOE ROGAN-NEIL YOUNG SPOTIFY FEUD – WHO'S ROCKIN' IN THE FREE WORLD NOW?

Meanwhile, Joe Rogan has come under blistering attack for hosting on his podcast a cardiologist and infectious disease expert who questions the efficacy and safety of the COVID vaccines. Rogan is viewed as such a threat that the White House – in effect, the president of the United States – is trying to shut him down.

You have to wonder, why is the establishment in full panic mode every time someone challenges their COVID orthodoxy?

When historians review how our nation dealt with this pandemic, our political leaders will be excused for mistakes made. In responding to a fast-moving once-in-a-lifetime virus that threatened wholesale death, our mayors and governors – and two presidents – made quick decisions based on inadequate information but recommended by health experts who did the best they could. Those will be forgiven.

What is not forgivable and should never be excused is that those same political leaders and medical authorities brooked no dissent, allowed no debate, and by pretending they had unassailable "truths" on their side, undoubtedly caused the deaths of many Americans.

Joe Biden’s White House was reluctant to acknowledge the vaccines’ shortcomings and slow to admit that their efficacy declined rapidly over time

Discussions about possible therapies and treatments have been forbidden, even though creditable doctors have attested to the value of drugs like ivermectin and hydroxychloroquine, based on their own experience.

When Dr. Simone Gold and her colleagues attested to the success they had treating COVID patients with hydroxychloroquine, she was banned from every major social media site and smeared by the press. But a team at Henry Ford Health System in southeast Michigan announced in July 2020 that a study of 2,541 hospitalized patients found that those given hydroxychloroquine were much less likely to die.

When a Pennsylvania doctor prescribed ivermectin for a patient she was fired. Just recently, clinical trials in Japan suggest the drug inspires an anti-viral reaction and could be a useful remedy for COVID patients.

Similarly, challenges to lockdowns and mask mandates have been viewed as undermining society and those voicing dissent viewed as heretics.

It is not as though the "authorities" have gotten it right. Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis has been pilloried by the intelligentsia for refusing to impose lockdowns or mask or vaccine mandates, but his state has witnessed fewer deaths per capita from the latest omicron surge than New York, which has required all those supposed preventatives.

A recent Johns Hopkins study concluded that locking down our economy only reduced the COVID death toll by 0.2%, while inflicting grave injury on our country; the authors said the approach should be "rejected out of hand as a pandemic policy instrument."

Joe Rogan’s great offense was to interview Dr. Robert Malone, who challenged the efficacy of the vaccines, points he reiterated in a recent speech in D.C.

"Regarding the genetic COVID vaccines, the science is settled, they are not working."

The Washington Post, reviewing his remarks, thundered that Malone was promulgating "falsehoods" and "misinformation." The Post writers noted that the doctor’s comments came on the heels of a CDC study showing that the vaccines protect against hospitalization from omicron.

That seems true, and incredibly valuable, but it is also true that the vaccines failed to meet their original promise, which was to prevent infection from and transmission of COVID-19. The surge in delta and then omicron cases grew to record numbers in the U.S. even as a growing number of people were vaccinated.

Joe Biden’s White House was reluctant to acknowledge the vaccines’ shortcomings and slow to admit that their efficacy declined rapidly over time. Skepticism over the shots grew; confusion led to the U.S. falling way behind in booster shots, costing many lives.

In issuing an apology about his podcast, Rogan pointed out that "Eight months ago, if you said if you get vaccinated you can still catch COVID and you can still spread COVID – you will be removed from social media … Now, that’s accepted as fact." He is right.

One of the most popular articles at The Hill recently described the CDC’s "finally recognizing ‘natural immunity,"" something that the health agency had previously refused to do. A report from the CDC concluded, based on a review of people in California and New York, that being vaccinated prevented the worst effects of COVID-19, but so did surviving the disease. In fact, the researchers note that "after delta became prevalent, natural immunity was more protective against infection than vaccination."

The Hill author notes that, "Many European countries recognize that immunity due to prior infection is equal to vaccination" and summarizes that, "Not exempting those with prior infection was always unfair; now it is unscientific as well."

Hundreds of thousands of workers have protested the vaccine mandates ordered by Biden; many have argued that because they have already survived the virus, they have natural immunities and need no further protection. The authorities refused to consider their argument, just as they have refused to admit that masks provide minimal benefits to children and in fact could be harmful.

Biden campaigned on the promise that he had a plan to "shut down the virus." The United States now has a higher per capita death rate than any other developed country, which was not the case when Biden took office. Clearly his administration is doing something wrong. But heaven forbid you ask what that is.

That’s actually a fair point, especially if you have some medical reason to avoid a vaccine (although very few people fall into that category). Even so, the current scientific understanding is that natural immunity is still enhanced with vaccines. Additionally, you can get Covid again. I know a few people who have had it twice, so natural immunity is no guarantee either.

A piece of good news I heard this morning is that people who are getting it for the second time seem to be handling it better the second time around.

But heaven forbid you ask what that is.

Go ahead and ask. I have been plenty critical of the Biden administration. I don’t think it advances the conversation on the pandemic to whine only about pushback on debate. I think it’s far more productive to say the thing you want to say rather than put all your energy into complaining that someone else doesn’t want you to say it. I see that a lot, lately.

I hope the picture of the maskless Stacy Abrams sitting in a classroom with masked kids ends this stupidity.  The mandated masks for kids (who generally don't need them), but not elected Democrats should once and for all end this hygiene theatre that only serves to hurt kids.

They demand we take instruction from them then lets.  Stacy Abrams and many other Democrats don't feel the need to wear a mask then it's time we all put up the masks and get back to normal.  No more fear mongering from the left since we would be following their examples.

In a nut shell, anybody who speaks out, or acts against the blundering fools in the government and the left are facing scrutiny, up to and including death threats across the board.  But don't dare criticize THEM.  They'll brand you a "domestic terrorist" and cry, and scream, go at you on social media like a child.

I'm pretty sure the vast majority of those who are railing against Rogan have NEVER heard any of the podcasts they are so upset about.  Like many of the things the left gets upset about, they are running off of something a friend told a friend who told a friend.

I think one of the main issues is a lack of goal therefore there is no end in sight.  The goal has been everywhere from two weeks to flatten the curve to no one can get sick (or die) from Covid and all points in between.  The goal is different depending on who you talk to or how someone wants to spin the science du jour.  There is not a good way to determine how many in the hospital are there due to covid or just with covid so there is no way to actually tell how we are doing with regards to hospitalization. Everything is a game of one mask, two mask, red mask, blue mask. They are lumping in kids with adults with regards to results data and mandates even though Covid does not see them as equals in terms of sickness or death.  What is the acceptable rate of death?  What is the acceptable hospital rate or the rate of transmission?  What is an goal vaccination rate?  What is the goal for herd immunity?  With no good answers or consensus on anything it is no wonder more and more people are just raising there hands and saying "That's it, I am out of your game".

undoubtedly caused the deaths of many Americans.

How many, roughly? I’m not asking for an exact number. Just ballpark it. I mean, if it’s “undoubtedly” they should be able to give us a number on the deaths and also some genuine cause-and-effect evidence for how these deaths were caused. I don’t think that’s asking too much. I also don’t think there’s an answer forthcoming.

You have to wonder, why is the establishment in full panic mode every time someone challenges their COVID orthodoxy?

Because they’re trying to save lives. Duh. Isn’t that worth a strong reaction?

What is not forgivable and should never be excused is that those same political leaders and medical authorities brooked no dissent, allowed no debate

I’m all for dissent and debate. I do not support censorship. However, if you are going to say irrational shit that endangers public health, expect to be challenged on it.

But a team at Henry Ford Health System in southeast Michigan announced in July 2020 that a study of 2,541 hospitalized patients found that those given hydroxychloroquine were much less likely to die.

Unfortunately, that study had some critical flaws. Specifically, there was no control (placebo) in the study and the patients were also taking a corticosteroid, which has been shown to be of some benefit to Covid patients. Without these flaws, other researchers have been unable to reproduce the Ford findings - and several have tried. Believe me, if I thought there was a pill I could take to keep Covid from killing me, I’d take it.

Similarly, challenges to lockdowns and mask mandates have been viewed as undermining society and those voicing dissent viewed as heretics.

Heretics? Undermining society? That’s not quite true - at least not on any large scale that I have seen. Lockdowns (such as they are) and mask mandates are not about religious orthodoxy or morality. They’re about protecting public health. There’s nothing more to it than that.

Now, have people been characterized as being a danger to that public health? Absolutely. But that goes both ways. The people who whine about the negative characterizations have no problem at all accusing those who disagree with them of being fascists.

That seems true, and incredibly valuable, but it is also true that the vaccines failed to meet their original promise, which was to prevent infection from and transmission of COVID-19.

What promise? This is a straw man. No one - not even the manufacturers themselves - have ever said the vaccines would function at 100% efficacy to prevent infection and transmission. They were announced at being 94-95% effective against the original virus, but also that they might function less well against variants. This has always been how the vaccines were represented.

But even this straw man misses the point. Whether it’s 95% or 5%, that’s still better than 0%.

None of these measures (vaccines, lockdowns, masks, social distancing) were supposed to end the pandemic by themselves. It’s supposed to be all of these factors working together that do it. But even then, the initial goals were never to end the virus (though that would be wonderful), but rather to limit infections so as to allow our healthcare systems to respond effectively to sick people without being overwhelmed, and to give medical science more time to pursue even more effective treatments.

A recent Johns Hopkins study concluded that locking down our economy

We have not locked down our economy. We have done many things to inhibit the spread of disease by limiting some activities, but the economy was never locked down. Some people might call it a “lockdown” but that don’t make it so.

Biden campaigned on the promise that he had a plan to "shut down the virus."

Yeah, well, he was full of shit on that point. Biden made Covid a political football as much as anyone else.

In many places where the Ds control, the mandates and restrictions from the first year or so were rescinded when the numbers went down around June of 2021. So, I would say the answer to your question is “yes.”

or will they crack down on us hard enough to basically end the republic to maintain control

That’s a pretty incredible coincidence. OR it says something pretty significant about Trump that if more people have a chance to vote, he loses the election. Not really something to be proud of.

So how do you explain Georgia? Arizona? States with Republican governors that went for Trump. How can it be some kind of Democratic conspiracy when they aren’t even in charge?

Please don’t answer. The question is rhetorical. You know your conspiracy theory is nonsense.
