(The Center Square)- Haitians arenot justarriving in Springfield, Ohio, but alsoin small rural towns nationwideas a result ofseveral Biden-Harris administration policies.

Since fiscal 2021, more than 485,000 Haitian illegal border crossers, a record, have been reportedby U.S. Customs and Border Protection. The overwhelming majority were reported this fiscal year, nearly 216,000, compared to 48,727 in fiscal 2021.

Since fiscal 2021 through August, the majority have been apprehended at the southwest border of nearly 262,000, followed bynearly221,000 nationwide andnearly2,300 at the northern border, according to the data.

Additionally, since July, 205,000 Haitians have been released through the CHNV parole program, according to CBP data.Of the more than 765,000 illegal foreign nationals released into the country through the CBP One app, the top nationality is Haitian.Through these programs, U.S. Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas also extendedTemporary Permanent Status to themand grantedworkauthorization.

All of these programs are illegal, state attorneys general who've sued to stop them,argue.U.S. House Republicans also cited them as among the manyillegalactions Mayorkas caused them to impeach him. Mayorkas has since only expanded the programs andextended TPS.

When respondingto the Haitian influx, local officials claim Haitians are there to work andare contributingto society despiteclaims byresidents to the contrary.

The city of Springfieldclaimsa "surge in our population over the last several years, primarily due to an influx of legal immigrants," suggesting that Springfield "is an appealing place for many reasons including lower cost of living and available work."

Springfield Mayor Bob Rue hassaid"myhands are tied in many ways" about the influx of Haitians, pointing to a designation theywere givenby the Biden-Harris administration. The TPS program "came from the White House and is a Homeland Security policy," he said at a recent city commissionmeeting.

Springfield residents have argued the overwhelming majority of Haitians are enrolling in welfare and notworking;have caused increased crimeandtherearen't enough police to deal with it; andresidents are being killed by Haitian drivers.Rue has expressed concerns about the dangerous driving conditions, saying, "I have almostbeen hitmyself."

In the last three years, Springfield's 50,000population has swelled by roughly 20,000.City officials claim they are there "legally" through TPS through Feb. 3, 2026.

In Sylacauga, Alabama, residents have been demanding answers about busloads of Haitiansbeing droppedinto their community. At a Sept. 5 city council meeting, City Council President Tiffany Nix shut down a meeting and made the issue about race. "We have no reason to treat people differently because of how they look," she said. "There's no reason for us to discuss this any further." She also said, "I'm going to welcome anybody to Sylacauga that wants to come to Sylacauga," 1819 Newsreported.

Sylacauga resident David Phillipssaid, "thereis no way the State Department can vet these people," adding that they were coming from a failed state and potentially dangerous.

Residents continue to speak out. At a Sept. 17 meeting, NixsaidHaitians were there on 18-month visas. A meeting has alsobeen scheduledwith state and federal lawmakers.

In Coffee County, one resident claimed, "30,000 illegal aliensare scheduledto arrive in the first week of October, 1,000 of them in Baldwin County," and that human trafficking was involved, 1819 Newsreported.Enterprise City Councilman Greg Padgettposted a statementon Facebook saying, "Enterprise is not a sanctuary city; No elected officials have received bribes to allow Haitians into our city; No one informed the elected officials of our city about this program, how many are here, and for what purpose - so there has been nothing covered up." He also said they are "doing our best to obtain factual answers."

In Charleroi, Penn., the immigrant population has grown "by over 2,000% in just the last two years," primarily due to a Haitian influx, 11 Newsreported.Despite this creating a strain for the local school district, Charleroi Council Borough Manager Joe ManningtoldKDKA News, Haitians aren't "a drain on our resources, they don't cause problems."Charleroi Council President Kristin Hopkins-Calek said their community is "steeped in a rich history of immigration,"and Haitians were making a positive contribution, the Pittsburgh Post Gazettereported.

Under current law, the majority of Haitiansbeing releasedinto the U.S. are inadmissible but havebeen orderedto be released by the Biden-Harris administration and given "notice to appear"documents for an immigration court hearing years into the future. The NTA states they are inadmissible, CBP officials have explained to The Center Square. Several U.S. House Committee on Homeland Security reports acknowledge their NTA inadmissible status and state their release, not removal, violates federal law established by Congress. Iffederal law were followed, House Republicans argue the large majority would be prohibited entry.

Many inadmissible Haitians became citizens of Mexico, Chileandother countries, living and working there for yearsprior toclaiming asylum in the U.S., The Center Square has previously reported. Border Patrol and local Texas officials first realized this when what became 30,000 Haitians descended on Del Rio, Texas, in September 2021. Many left their passports and identifying documents - which show their citizenship was not Haitian - in Mexico, claiming they had none. The majoritywere releasedinto communities nationwide, The Center Squarereported.

That's a lot of imported poverty..................

That's definitely a lot of bias and opinion.

TPS covered migrants flown into the USA pay for their own airfare and must have the financial means to reach their declared destinations presumably to find work. They receive no benefits.

To be   considered for advance authorization   to travel to the U.S., beneficiaries must have a U.S. sponsor who initiates the application process and is willing and able to assume financial responsibility for them once they are in the country. U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services then requires the person seeking parole, and any immediate family members they wish to bring with them, to provide biographic information and attest to their eligibility, including being up to date on public health requirements, such as vaccinations.

Individuals provide that information, and a photo, through a USCIS website and the   CBP One app , which was launched in October 2020 and is used for other programs and services managed by CBP. Applicants must have a valid passport for travel and pay for their own commercial airfare.

Once they arrive at a U.S. port of entry, they are interviewed by CBP, which does additional screening and biometric vetting, including fingerprinting, and makes a determination. If approved, the parole program allows the migrants to live in the U.S. for up to two years and apply for employment authorization.

There are 30,000 slots for parolees available per month.

DHS   has said   that nationals of those four countries who do not follow this process, and try to cross into the U.S. without authorization or a legal basis to do so, will be removed or returned to Mexico, which has agreed to take in as many as 30,000 people monthly.

Not a Secret

Bensman, of the CIS,   has described   the parole program as “secretive” because CBP does not report all details about the program, such as the airports the authorized migrants are flying to and from.

The notion that there are enough "sponsors" to assume responsibility for all those ~300,000 + Haitians who can pay their own way here are and receive no benefits is ludicrous. Are their sponsors the US taxpayers?

Why is it ludicrous to you? Out of the 337 million Americans, 1.2 million are of Hattian heritage.

Are their sponsors the US taxpayers?

Anyone can apply to Homeland Security to be approved as a certified sponsor. So presumably many are US taxpayers.

In a recent CBS story, DHS says it receives 12,000 sponsorship applications a day and it cannot deal with the backlog.

1.5 million apply for U.S. migrant sponsorship program with 30,000 monthly cap - CBS News

It's not uncommon for whole church congregations to apply for sponsorships for people they are related too.

Are their sponsors the US taxpayers?

But no, not in the sense your question implied, the US taxpayers, as in Uncle Sam, are not footing the bills.

I don't why some folks don't get that these Haitian LEGAL immigrants were sought to fill jobs here and are on TPS.

It's dumbfounding and mindboggling but I guess when your hero tells you that he's going to deport these legal Haitian immigrants for no reason whatsoever......well, it's dumbfounding and mindboggling.

Bringing in foreign populations, planting them in condensed areas and giving them benefits not available to native citizens is what foreign conquerors usually do. It's called colonialism.

Many of the 'threats' came from overseas.

Kind of doubt Trump had a damn thing to do with them.

Refugee benefits

Do you understand that legal benefits exist for refugees? Legal benefits exist for many specific groups of people, and people who are not in that group are not eligible for the benefit. It’s hard to imagine that a grown-up is unaware of this.

In the last three years, Springfield's 50,000population has swelled by roughly 20,000

Good. Because it had been declining for decades. In 1970, the population was over 80,000. 70,000 would only bring the town up to 1990 levels. But all of that is assuming the numbers in the article are even legit. There is no link supporting the number, and everywhere I look on the internet - including the US Census Bureau - puts Springfield’s population for 2024 around 58,000.

Through these programs, U.S. Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas also extendedTemporary Permanent Status to themand grantedworkauthorization. All of these programs are illegal

It’s Temporary Protected Status, not “permanent.” Nice “journalism.” And it’s 100% legal because it was created via an act of Congress (and signed by a Republican president) in 1990.

In Charleroi, Penn., the immigrant population has grown "by over 2,000% in just the last two years,"

That’s not helpful. If you start with 1 immigrant and then bring in 20 more, you’ve increased the immigrant population by 2000%. And by the way, Haitians have been immigrating to this town for four years . This started when Trump was president. Many of them came to work in the local meat-packing plant.

These things can always be done better, but I’m not hearing constructive criticism from MAGA. I’m seeing a lot of racism and paranoia. All the talk is about replacement theory, culture, and assimilation - the usual Tucker Carlson talking points. We see absurd accusations of immigrants’ behavior, false accusations of them not working, and leeching off the local economy. This talk is not grounded in facts; it rises from bigotry.

Presidents and vice presidents are not sitting around figuring out where they can plant large numbers of immigrants. We have a bureaucracy that has been in place for decades handling this.
