Day 1, Apache Trail
Either landscapes are really hard to photograph... or I'm a lousy photographer... or both... In any case, I don't do very well, and as a result am kinda apprehensive every time I try.
The " Apache Trail " is... gorgeous. Lots of gorges. Ha ha...
We also climbed up (and up and up and up... ) to the ancient pueblo at Tonto National Monument. It's very cool... but not very photogenic. Don't worry; there are others to come.
It's hard to apprehend the scale, here.
The little green vertical line near the bottom on the left side is a saguaro cactus about fifteen feet high.
Everything seemed to be painted in a bright light green.
It had rained a couple days earlier, so the lichens were euphoric.
The mountains themselves were bright green!
There are crazy people who hike in this country!
Strata, large and small, in many colors...
Great photos...The defination of ''wild west''....
BTW is the road still unpaved. It's been many years since I was there.
Oh, YES! With itsy-bitsy switchbacks and no guard-rails... Maximum speed ten or fifteen miles per hour.
Still the same then...Makes for a very interesting trip. ''Death Grip'' steering.
Very nice shots Bob. Deserts can be very difficult, but you did it well.
Kav, I don't think that you'd want to put big green up there.
Big Green would eat it up like a dish of ice cream TTGA...LOL
Never having had the opportunity to see those areas of the USA, I'm quite taken and very impressed by such scenery. Thanks for posting these travelogue photos.
Don't worry about your pics Bob, they're great. Also, there's people like myself who don't hike that terrain who would never see it except for hiking pics such as yours. I like hiking, but I like my areas to hike to be a bit more hospitable than that. Like vegetation without spines and running water within a minimum of 20 miles. Shade.
Sissy comforts like that.
So feel free to keep them a-coming.
Nicely done.
Really good photography, so I disagree with your assessment of yourself.
I like your last shot. You can see the heaving that the ground has done, evidence of seismic activity in the area that created what we see today.
Very cool
