Half a Movie Quiz

PLEASE DO NOT POST YOUR ANSWERS IN A COMMENT, OR YOU WILL RUIN THE QUIZ FOR EVERYONE ELSE.  POST THEM IN A PRIVATE NOTE TO ME, BUZZ OF THE ORIENT, AND I WILL REPLY WITH YOUR SCORE AND THE CORRECT ANSWERS.

This is just half a quiz (only 10 questions) so maybe it will be a little easier.  The questions are a mix of true/false, multiple choice and regular questions.

Please remember that I am on the other side of the world (of most of you) so I could be asleep when you send your answers, so be patient - I will get to your PN as soon as I can.

There are some easy questions and some not so easy, and all of the questions are drawn from movies released during the last 30 years.  These are supposed to be a test of your memory of the movies, so using an internet site to find your answers is cheating, and no test of your movie knowledge.  I've posted questions that are not easily answered by searching the internet anyway.  Please number your answers with the same numbers as the questions.  Now, give it a try....

.

1.   At the end of the movie Pretty Woman (1990), what two things did Edward Lewis (Richard Gere) hold up in his hands while standing up in the limousine as it was approaching the apartment of Vivian Ward (Julia Roberts)?  (answer requires both)

2.   At the end of the movie The Devil's Own (1997) what did Rory Devaney / Frankie McGuire (Brad Pitt) try to escape in?     (choose one):   (a) airplane,    (b) train,     (c) car,    (d) boat.

3.   In the movie Fly Away Home (1996) Amy Alden (Anna Paquin) named the Canada Goose that was the passenger in her "Flying Goose" on the way south "Igor".  True or False?

4.   In the movie A Knight's Tale (2001), what did William Thatcher, as Sir Ulrich von Lichtenstein, (Heath Ledger) do that caused a priest to shout at him that what he was doing was desecrating the church?

5.   What is the McGuffin in the 2012 movie Gambit, starring Colin Firth, Cameron Diaz, Alan Rickman, Tom Courtenay and Stanley Tucci?

6.   In the 1995 movie Crimson Tide, Captain Ramsey (Gene Hackman) brings a dog on board his submarine.  True or False?

7.   In the Bollywood movie Bride and Prejudice (2004) Balraj (a takeoff of Mr. Bingley in the original Jane Austen novel) is a..(choose one):  (a) businessman,   (b) accountant,   (c) doctor,   (d) attorney.

8.   In the movie Save The Last Dance (2001) Sara (Julia Stiles) tries but fails to get into Julliard.  True or False?

9.   The colour of the cat that belonged to Mia (Anne Hathaway) in the 2001 movie The Princess Diaries was....(choose one):  (a) black   (b) tabby   (c) white   (d) black and white.

10.  In the 1990 movie Flashback, what does Huey Walker (Dennis Hopper) tell John Buckner (Kiefer Sutherland) that he will tempt Maggie (Carol Kane) with?

So far you're the leader with 8 right out of 10.  You are definitely a movie maven.

I've only seen part of 1 of these movies. without comedy, gratuitous sex or violence, what's the point?

I have seen Pretty Woman and the bird one, I think. If it is the one where the young girl flies with the geese to get them to migrate.

A member who had only seen four of them still answered the questions because they thought it was fun.  I bet if you post your answers for the two you saw you could feel good if you got them right, and most members who answer tell me it was fun even if they didn't do well.

LOL.  Sorry, but I don't have access to porn movies, and I turn off most movies when I see they're extremely violent, but I have posted questions about comedies previously - some of the B or C class movies they show here are so bad they're comedic.

So post your answers for those two movies on a Private Note to me.   The "bird one" is Fly Away Home.  They just showed that movie here again and I always feel good when I see it.  When they start out on their journey with the geese, before they cross the lake, you can see a city with a tower in the misty distance - it's Toronto, where I spent almost half a century of my life, and left to come to China.

They've become hard to do, Trout.  I have to first read through movie web sites like IMBd that post lists of quotations and other facts and for the more recent movies a very complete synopsis, to make sure the answers to my questions are not easily available.  I can't use quotations or screen shots because those are easily googled.  That's why I only did 10 questions this time instead of 20, and many of the movies I can watch here are so bad they're probably not even shown in the USA.  As well, although I was a classic movie fan, few people are so that's why I stuck with movies that were released within the past 30 years.

But pretty well everyone who gives it a shot enjoys doing it whether or not they do well on them, so I will keep on posting them.

I think I did actually OK for a change. 60 maybe 70% right... I could be wrong though. I did see most of these movies.

You got 70%.  If you didn't see the other 3 movies, you were perfect.

I really do like the Fly Away Home movie. It was really a wonderful movie showed big hearted people who were willing to help animals find their own reality in migrating to their traditional winter home. I watched it several times and learned something new each time. It is one of my very favorite movies.

Pretty Woman is also one of my very favorite movies, and goes beyond just a love story. It is still one favorite for me.

Some of the movies I did not see, or only watched part of them as I did not find them all that interesting.

So I am sure my score will not be that great. But, I enjoyed the challenge of the Quiz. jrSmiley_79_smiley_image.gif

The score achieved is no big deal - it's the challenge and everyone, even if their scores are low, have told me they enjoy doing them so I'll keep on posting them.  Fly Away Home is a heartwarming movie, and I have another reason for liking it as I explained to Trout above.

I knew that I would likely not get many right, as I am not really that big a movie fan, and the ones I did see were so long ago that I forgot much about them.

But, getting only two right is better than none. The others were fun challengers, and I had fun guessing.  jrSmiley_13_smiley_image.gif

NOTICE TO QUIZ LOVERS

I am really quite pleased that 7 members of NT tried, and had fun doing this quiz whether they were successful or not.  I don't expect the members of NT whose brains are locked with politics and/or religion to show that they have any other interests so I know that the audience for cultural matters is limited.  Perhaps I should change the name of this group to "SOME PEOPLE Love Movies - Classic to Current".  The biggest problem is that many have not seen a lot of the movies referred to, so I would like to hear from everyone, to post here as a comment on this article a list of ten of their favourite movies but not including those released within the past 3 years, because I will not have seen those.

I went to a first-run movie theatre here only once (they do show English language movies with Chinese subtitles) and that was as least 8 or 9 years ago because I wanted to try a 4D movie experience, but I don't intend to go again, and although I get to see many movies on cable TV here, Hollywood and international, but they are for copyright purposes at least 3 years old.  Yes, contrary to popular belief, China DOES respect those rights.

Then I can do my best to think up questions for the next quiz, ones that give you more of a chance of knowing the answer.  It is not that easy to create the questions, because I can use neither quotations nor screen shots as they can be identified on google, and I have to first read through the movie web sites like IMDb as they provide lists of quotations, story line, and for the more recent movies a very complete synopsis that has prevented me from using many of the questions I would have asked.  As well, although I am familiar with many classic movies (I originally created a movie group on NV and then here called "Classic Cinema"), not many are, so I can't go too far back.

So please all send me your lists - 10 of your favourite movies that you probably have watched more than once and are familiar with, but at least 3 years old.  I will do my best to create questions from those that I have seen myself.
