A 64 percent majority of US respondents think political violence in the country will increase over the next few years, compared to 57 percent in December 2021, according to a CBS News poll.

54 percent said the US will be "less of a democracy" for the next generation than it is now. 86 percent believe using force and violence is "always unacceptable" as a method to achieve political goals.

80 percent believe the US is more divided today than it was during their parents' generation and 67 percent are pessimistic that Americans with different political beliefs can still come together and work out their differences.

The poll was conducted from Aug 29 to Aug 31 among 2,085 US adults.

Similarly, there were other polls showing how political violence could be on the rise.

One in five adults in the US would be willing to condone acts of political violence, a survey commissioned by public health experts found.

The online survey of more than 8,600 US adults was conducted from mid-May to early June by the research firm Ipsos on behalf of the Violence Prevention Research Program at the University of California, Davis.

In the poll, 20.5 percent of respondents believed political violence was at least "sometimes justified."

The CBS News poll also found most voters believe there will be issues with the next election that could harm democracy, with a 67 percent majority believing it's at least somewhat likely some state or county officials will refuse to certify election results.

It's just getting worse and worse.  What will be the breaking point?

What will be the breaking point?

We have gone through periods like this before. There are reasons for it.

The real problem is right wing extremism. The right knows they have nothing to fear from women marching in pink knitted hats and nothing to fear from the dreaded "libtards" who advocate for better gun policies. There aren't Democrats marching with guns and Trump flags. The very real threat is from right wing extremists who do carry guns along with Trump flags and refuse to face the realities of elections where they lose.

None of these Republican voters who have voted for the "R" candidate regardless of policies care about reality. They have been programmed by the likes of McConnell and right wing think tanks to accept any behavior or Republican corruption then flip the script to accuse Democrats of the negative things that actual Republicans are doing.

They have gone from defending "trickle down" falsehoods from the Reagan era, to defending Bush and crew until they could no longer do so as it became obvious how horrible that era was, Then they transitioned at the command of right wing fake grassroots funders to create the fake "Tea Party", only to abandon it since it accomplished changing the subject of how wrong they were with Bush. Then they embraced the next great white hope with Trump the fake business man who never served his country, never held elected office, was a Democrat who admitted he would run as a Republican since he knew they were foolish enough to vote for him and they still double down, threaten violence to the point of attacking our country at the capitol with extreme violence because they refuse to admit that their votes have been wrong for the wrong people.

Somehow I get the impression that you're not particularly happy with the right wing.

How many cities have been burned and looted during MAGA riots?

MAGA political violence attacks government.  Liberal political violence attacks the civil population.  MAGA blames government.  Liberals blame the electorate.  MAGA tries to disrupt government.  Liberals try to disrupt daily life in cities.  MAGA political violence means government officials are not safe.  Liberal political violence means people on the street are not safe.

Liberals turn daily activities within the civil population into political crimes and attempts to punish the civil population for engaging in those daily activities.  MAGA doesn't do that.

Now explain why MAGA is the bigger threat to civil society and democracy.

It's okay, there can always be a Kyle Rittenhouse around to make sure the liberals behave themselves.

What an odd way to make a backhanded point.  It's true that Rittenhouse wasn't associated with the rioters in Kenosha.  Rittenhouse wasn't there to riot, burn, destroy, and threaten the city of Kenosha.  It's true that Rittenhouse was not the attacker.  Rittenhouse wasn't associated with the government, either.

But somehow Rittenhouse is the bigger threat to democracy?  Rittenhouse is the poster child for political violence?
