McCarthyism revives in a new disguise: China Daily editorial

In the speech he delivered on winning the House Speaker election, US Congress majority leader Kevin McCarthy promised to establish a select committee to tackle the alleged "multifaceted threats" of China to the United States.
On Tuesday, the US House of Representatives voted 365 to 65 to establish the House Select Committee on the Strategic Competition between the US and the Chinese Communist Party. All the Republicans in the House and 146 Democrats supported the move, a rare meeting of minds, considering the deep split between the two parties that disagree with each other on almost everything else.
But it is symptomatic of the anti-China consensus that prevails in Washington. Among the anti-China chorus on Capitol Hill, the new House Speaker has been one of the most prominent voices. On Aug 3, one day after his predecessor in the role, Nancy Pelosi provocatively visited Taiwan, McCarthy said he "would have gone with her had she asked".
China-bashing politicians such as McCarthy are attempting to portray China as an enemy and have no qualms about reviving the ism of his namesake. Their anti-China rhetoric harkens back to the 1950s, when Senator Joseph McCarthy launched a witch hunt against anyone who could be accused of being a communist or communist sympathizer. Film stars, government staff members, politicians, even scientists such as Albert Einstein, came under scrutiny. Today, the same thing is being done to silence any voices with a more rational and objective view of China.
On Jan 16, 2022, New York-based media Daily Freeman published a letter to the editor that compared Kevin McCarthy to Joseph McCarthy. It said that the difference between the two is that "Senator Joseph McCarthy was stopped by some of his own party because they recognized his dangerous conduct".
Seven decades have passed and such dangerous conduct is not only being condoned but encouraged by both parties.
Of course, given the public humiliation he suffered in securing the role of speaker and the concessions he had to make to even harder-liners in his party, McCarthy had his own personal motivation for so quickly bringing the House together in its unwarranted animosity toward China. He needed to create the impression that he is not in the hole to the uber-conservative members of his own party who have effectively hijacked the interests of the US people with their unwillingness to compromise on any issue.
But with the country's many economic and social problems certain to continue to fester as a result of their intransigence, it can be expected that the noise about China will be amplified to create the illusion that something is being done. That in turn will likely pull US foreign policy by the nose along an ill-considered path.

Even though America is the bastion of Free Speech, do we really want Joe McCarthyism on the Front (Home) Page of The Newstalkers?
No, we don't, and we won't, because McCarthyism and what's currently going on are not the same thing. China really is a threat to us and everyone around them, as proven by their actions. Their actions and claimed goals, Buzz, is what makes them dangerous. The fact they lie through their teeth right in front of the whole world and expect people to just swallow it because they're China proves it. The fact they spout 'international law" when it suits them and in ways they interpret it or simply ignoring international consensus when those laws don't go China's way proves it. The fact they steal all the intellectual and industrial secrets from every country, university or company they can proves it. The list goes on.
The only people who are going to equate reaction to what China has done, is doing and intends to do, with McCarthyism are propagandists and people too lazy to think critically about the charge.
And your proof of all that is....? I suppose if it were true other nations would have nothing to do with China, but that's not what's happening as America can see, and that's what's causing Americans to make such accusations out of fear of being surpassed.
As I've posted many times, every nation has its warts, and I've posted some things about China that I did not like, but I don't think of China as the monster you make of it. These days, I wouldn't be so proud of what Trump is making of America, and I think there are a lot of Americans who feel that way as well.
... commonly found in daily news reports, watchdog organizations and such. Not going to bother with providing evidence you're not going to read or dismiss even if you do.
That's because the average citizen, regardless of country, has little to do with this. Countries tolerate what China is doing because the Wall Streets of the world, that is, the rich who actually run the world, make money there and that's what matters most to them.
True, but this isn't warts. This is an agenda being pursued by the CCP for dominance. An agenda where they will do whatever is necessary to achieve, regardless of laws, interests of other countries, or even the desire of its own people.
Again, this isn't McCarthyism. No one is being put on trial concerning their attitude or beliefs concerning China. It's quite obvious there is no fear in the US among the msm or anyone else of objecting to the government's policies toward the CCP and its practices and goals. Your assertion is just propaganda.
Then you're unaware of just WHO the victim was meant by an NT poster of a blatantly anti-China article was meant by the poster to be.
And your assertions are very "CHRISTIAN", aren't they. I'm really happy in China, and I'm not a Communist. I feel really safe here, and VERY comfortable on a pension that MIGHT afford me a rooming house room with shared bathroom and kitchen and lots of rice meals in a small town in Canada or America. Are you really happy these days? I won't bother with "whataboutisms" notwithstanding there is a list of them, but I'm sure you're aware of them. But thanks for helping to keep my article on the Front (Home) Page. Please reply and keep it up front.
Actually, I'm unaware as to what you're trying to say here. Could you please reword it?
I don't understand the question. What do you think my comments have to do with Christianity?
My complaint or point is not against you. It is against the CCP. I'm pleased you're having a nice life, though.
You're welcome and it's not a problem, as I am interested in the subject as well. I'm glad to help out.
Since you're interested in the subject, I suggest that you read this article, which I consider to be one of the best articles I have ever posted on NT, because it does help to understand how McCarthyism IS being brought up to date, especially by the lawmakers and the media.

Okay. I read about half of it and skimmed the rest. The reason I didn't read it all was that there was no effort to connect what happened then with what is happening now. Without that, you're just saying that because x happened then, x is therefore the explanation for now, as well. That's obviously unsupportable.
For instance, taking just one example, the CCP claiming nearly the entirety of the South China Sea and is aggressively intimidating all its neighbors concerning the subject. Claiming that the CCP is an existential expansionist threat to the region and the world is hardly McCarthyism. It's simply true.
It's not McCarthyism to recognize that the CCP is sending out its fishing fleets to decimate fishing populations, often in another country's exclusive economic zones, simply because they see it as a practical solution.
It isn't McCarthyism to recognize that the CCP is running secret police stations in other countries for the purpose of keeping its citizens under their thumb.
The CCP has a dream and they don't give a crap what they have to do to realize its accomplishment. The CCP doesn't even care how much their own people have to suffer to achieve it.
You've mssed the main point I made before. It's not what was posted as an article on NT, it was who it was aimed to embarrass. THAT is what I consider to be McCarthyism. There's more history to this than you're aware of.
As well, there are two sides to every story. China deems ancient maps that show lthe islands surrounding the South China Sea belonging as part of China to be the important factor.
I didn't understand the main point you apparently made before because the sentence didn't make any sense.
I'm not trying to be rude or funny. This sentence makes no sense to me. I cannot extract any meaning from it. I asked you to reword it so I can understand. You haven't, so it isn't really a case of me missing the point.
Then perhaps this conversation could advance if you could provide some clue as to what you are talking about. I've re-read the conversation and the seed and I seriously have not a single clue as to what you are talking about. Until then, the only thing you leave me to do is discuss this according to what I see. If you have some information you think relevant, share it.
Why? Germany was bigger than it is now, according to maps. Should they be claiming their land back? Ancient maps are an excuse, not a reason and, even then, would be more suited as an argument for the kingdoms of China's past as political entities for such claims, not the CCP. May as well say Iraq can claim most of the Middle East because it was once Persia.
I'm going to end this dialogue by telling you that I posted the three articles about "Good Night and Good Luck" as a response to the posting of an article by a person who has a hard-on about China and when he has an opportunity to do so he will direct his postings at me to taunt me. He makes me his victim as McCarthy made many, including NON-Communists his victims. He often gets his comments deleted for doing so and even went as far as posting a Metafied article to say that he was being wronged and I was being protected. That is it and if you can't understand it I'm sorry but I'm finished with this dialogue.
