Graham Blasts Ocasio-Cortez for Her Holocaust-Migrants Comparison
“I recommend she take a tour of the Holocaust Museum in D.C. Might help her better understand the differences between the Holocaust and the caravan in Tijuana,”

The young Democrat's ill-advised analogy to those who fled Germany decades ago is not going over well

Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) lambasted congresswoman-elect Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) on Monday for her comparison of the migrants trekking toward the U.S. in the latest Central American caravan to the Jews who fled Germany during the Holocaust and other targets of genocide.

Thousands of migrants from Central American have crossed into Mexico with the intention of crossing the border into the U.S. Most of them are young single men.

Approximately 6,000 U.S. troops have been helping to bolster border security efforts in anticipation of the migrants’ arrival — and Secretary of Defense Jim Mattis revealed last Wednesday that President Donald Trump had given him the authority to use lethal force, if necessary, to guard the safety and well-being of U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) personnel.

The CBP revealed that some migrants “attempted to illegally enter the U.S.,” noting that “those persons were stopped and turned back to Mexico.”

Some migrants also threw what appeared to be rocks at officials.

Ocasio-Cortez (pictured above left) responded to a tweet from NBC News over the weekend with a picture depicting “a migrant family, part of a caravan of thousands traveling from Central America en route to the United States, [that] runs away from tear gas in front of the U.S.-Mexico border wall in Tijuana, Mexico.”

“Asking to be considered a refugee & applying for status isn’t a crime,” Ocasio-Cortez tweeted Sunday evening.

“It wasn’t for Jewish families fleeing Germany. It wasn’t for targeted families fleeing Rwanda. It wasn’t for communities fleeing war-torn Syria.”

“And it isn’t for those fleeing violence in Central America,” she wrote. But Graham (above right) would not and could not tolerate that kind of comparison from Ocasio-Cortez.

“I recommend she take a tour of the Holocaust Museum in D.C. Might help her better understand the differences between the Holocaust and the caravan in Tijuana,” Graham replied to Ocasio-Cortez on Twitter.

Others also piled on Ocasio-Cortez after she made the comparison, calling it ill-advised and inappropriate.  Yossi Gestetner, a Jewish public relations specialist, reacted on Twitter: “My grandparents lost their parents & siblings in the Holocaust. One of them also lost their spouse and both children. Despite this horror (that no one in the caravan suffered), their journey did not include rushing a border/throwing rocks. They came legally into the U.S. in [the] 1950s.”

New York State Assembly Member Dov Hikind, a Democrat, tweeted, “Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez gets the ignorance award. Someone should educate her about precisely what the Holocaust was all about.”

Arthur Schwartz, a public relations adviser, wrote, “Hey @Ocasio2018. Next time you want to compare Holocaust victims to the illegal immigrant caravan members, just don’t.”

“Lying about your circumstances is a crime. And for the thousandth time, stop comparing the political stunt of the day to the Holocaust. It’s offensive,” Schwartz insisted.

Conservative lawyer Josh Hammer pleaded, “Can we please, please all agree to leave Jews fleeing the Holocaust out of our tendentious political talking points for completely unrelated topics?”

Actor and aspiring politician Antonio Sabàto Jr. wrote, “So insulting to my family and especially my grandmother who survived the Holocaust.”

There is more at the seed, but I'm having problems with my network this morning......

Dear God, she takes stupid to a new level.  Glad to see Lindsay Graham finally standing up for his beliefs.  Took the stupidity of the Kavanaugh hearings, but at least he has recovered his voice.

SO, NYC types, what in God's name have you done, electing this moron to Congress?

No, I don't think she scares anyone, they, just like everyone else with a little intelligence and common sense can see this train wreck a mile away.  She is a fool, makes stupid statements, and generally acts like a tool all the time.  Call out idiocy in the election of this young lady has nothing to do with being scared, it's just recognizing the obvious.

Even those so slanted to the left must be able to see the stupidity brimming out of this cup, though I'm sure they won't say anything, they'd rather keep the deck chairs in the right place on the Titanic than worry about the cold water coming up their legs.

You left out all of the Democrats that spoke out against what she said.  Seems they didn't appreciate her remarks either.

She must scare the heck out of them as well.

No, what is scary is that this clueless hateful socialist witch ever got elected to begin with! Speaks volumes about her constituent base.

I do not think this is necessarily partisanship or ideology at play.    Ocasio-Cortez has made some very naive statements that call into question her readiness to serve in Congress.   I equate her comments to those of the sitting PotUS - at times they are communicated before fully baked.

Being critical of what a politician communicates does not necessarily mean that the observer is against the politician’s party or ideology or even against the politician.   Sometimes people comment based simply on the facts regardless of ideology or partisan interests.

But I do agree partisans will be all over her because she has made herself an easy target.   Same with Trump.

I'll join Spikegary in wondering why the Democrats would want a person so ignorant to be their representative, and they called Trump supporters "deplorable" - how ironic is that?

An alternative to that could be: "When I was a kid I went to the Saturday afternoon matinees to watch the one about Captain Midnight."

Dammit Gary, I was just going to post that one jrSmiley_10_smiley_image.gif

She is definitely in her prime time.  Sadly, at the age of 29, she doesn't fit in the age groups in the House nor the Senate - The average age of Members of the House at the beginning of the 114th Congress was 57.0 years; of Senators, 61.0 years. The overwhelming majority of Members of Congress have a college education.

She has a lot of maturing to do and, from the looks of it, she has 30 years to gain that experience.

Will she be qualified, by age, then?  Doubt it.
