China bans men it sees as not masculine enough from TV

BEIJING (AP) — China's government banned effeminate men on TV and told broadcasters Thursday to promote "revolutionary culture," broadening a campaign to tighten control over business and society and enforce official morality.

President Xi Jinping has called for a "national rejuvenation," with tighter Communist Party control of business, education, culture and religion. Companies and the public are under increasing pressure to align with its vision for a more powerful China and healthier society.

The party has reduced children's access to online games and is trying to discourage what it sees as unhealthy attention to celebrities.

Broadcasters must "resolutely put an end to sissy men and other abnormal esthetics," the National Radio and TV Administration said, using an insulting slang term for effeminate men — "niang pao," or literally, "girlie guns."

That reflects official concern that Chinese pop stars, influenced by the sleek, fashionable look of some South Korean and Japanese singers and actors, are failing to encourage China's young men to be masculine enough.

Broadcasters should avoid promoting "vulgar internet celebrities" and admiration of wealth and celebrity, the regulator said. Instead, programs should "vigorously promote excellent Chinese traditional culture, revolutionary culture and advanced socialist culture."

Xi's government also is tightening control over Chinese internet industries.

It has launched anti-monopoly, data security and other enforcement actions at companies including games and social media provider Tencent Holding and e-commerce giant Alibaba Group that the ruling party worries are too big and independent.

Rules that took effect Wednesday limit anyone under 18 to three hours per week of online games and prohibit play on school days.

Game developers already were required to submit new titles for government approval before they could be released. Officials have called on them to add nationalistic themes.

The party also is tightening control over celebrities.

Broadcasters should avoid performers who "violate public order" or have "lost morality," the regulator said. Programs about the children of celebrities also are banned.

On Saturday, microblog platform Weibo Corp. suspended thousands of accounts for fan clubs and entertainment news.

A popular actress, Zhao Wei, has disappeared from streaming platforms without explanation. Her name has been removed from credits of movies and TV programs.

Thursday's order told broadcasters to limit pay for performers and to avoid contract terms that might help them evade taxes.

Another actress, Zheng Shuang, was fined 299 million yuan ($46 million) last week on tax evasion charges in a warning to celebrities to be positive role models.

He has big shoes to fill.  Mao Zedong went to extreme measures to take power. He killed 45 million people between 1958 and 1962 alone. He didn't waste time with changing election laws, stacking the Court or ending the filibuster and most important, he would never replace Chinese citizens with foreigners to win elections. Xi can take solace in the fact that so many American faux intellectuals sympathize with his concern for equality.

Since this is obviously SUCH an important issue, how about if I post a THIRD copy of the exact same article on the Home (Front) Page - at least that way there is less room for yet more hatefully antagonistic American political articles.

You know it's China  banning effeminate men on TV, right?  And right wingers attacking them for it, right?

The reflexive need of the left to defend China and attack Americans in defiance of all logic cannot be exaggerated.

Why not?  It's all part of the need to shift the people's attention away from the problems in and caused by America.  Only 3 separate shootings reported by Bing News this morning, and a fourth wave of the virus happening, mostly in the south east, as examples.

I'm sure the American left would agree. I want to explore that strange bond between the American left and the CCP.

It's now known as the CPC.  They moved the P (party) to the left (that should give you a smile).

But you know that in order to prevent the Republicans from being able to capitalize on calling Biden soft on China, he's being tougher than Trump, but not using Trump's deliberate racist language.  I don't think you'll know what Biden's real intentions are until after the mid-term elections.  In any event I don't think China gives a damn as long as America remains China's number one trading partner.

You won't be able to stop the mass shootings and gun violence in America, it's sort of like a Constitutional right (just ask any Texan - "I've got my guns, gonna wear them on my hip and I'm damn well entitled to use them."), and besides, your prisons are already overflowing due to America having the highest rate of incarceration in the world.

How can Joe be tough on China after his son took all that money from China? It was Trump who finally got us a fair trade deal. BTW you have yet to show me Trump's deliberate racist language. Anytime Buzz!

If he is still functioning as president by then.

Only 3 separate shootings reported by Bing News this morning,

You really should use DuckDuckGo instead of Bing, because it's far more accurate, secure, and diverse. Anyway ... there were more than 3 separate shootings since Friday's start to the holiday weekend. Did those articles you found happen to mention that ALL of the shootings occurred in cities run by Democrat mayors? Chicago alone had over 50 shootings, including a little 4-year-old boy who was shot in the head in his own home. (BTW ... the "weekend" isn't over yet)

and a fourth wave of the virus happening, mostly in the south east, as examples.

Did the articles you read happen to mention that the Biden Administration has relocated tens of thousands of untested and unvaccinated illegal aliens to the Southeast and across the nation? Probably not. It's no surprise that we're seeing spikes, and it's going to get even worse now that Biden has been transporting thousands of unvetted, untested, and unvaccinated Afghans who never helped the USA to our country.

Do you not understand that viruses come from various places? Delta variant and Mu are coming from across the globe? Which is odd that you don't go 'off' of India or Columbia. But, cow patty loves to be pointed and messy. Oh and that bull-headed asinine fool you like to support Donald J. Trump just recently used the "China virus" remark or words to that effect I read in a rally. That could be avoided.  But do you want it avoided? I. Think. Not. You've already issued for it a fresh Trump

'mulligan.'

If yes, why blame immigrants landing from south of the border placement? If not in support of Afghans landing here-then, were would you have our 'helpers' go in their time of need?

I read and watch CTV (Canada Television News), and for diversity I review the conglomeration of sources, right, left, and middle of the road, posted on the MSN Compilations for American and World news. As I've said many times, I sometimes read FOX NEWS for a laugh (are you surprised it's available in China?), AND since, unlike so many on this site, I believe in knowing BOTH sides of stores, I also read the China Daily.

Such freedom of expression in China. Sad to see some Westerners support this oppressive regime.

There seems to be a bond between the brutal regime and the American left. It may have something to do with that gift Jane Fonda talked about.

Oh if only I was a comedian; some of this 'material' is rib-roaring funny! (Jolly Good Time reading you). As to the rest of the article, I don't know what to make of people having to look a certain way as humanity. Our 'beauty' is in our diversity across the board?  What does Xi mean? What needs greater accentuation in the Chinese male-the slant of the eyes? A longer beard? Attire? A distinctive smell 'of old'?

It is a question I have as to why do people as they age need more of what they left behind while in their youth 'climbing' up out of the pit of yesterday? Horrors! Or is Xi concerned that LGBTQ males are about to 'explode' into the communications industries of China?
