CHINA has fired a hypersonic missile around the globe with the US left reeling by the terrifying display of military strength.
US intelligence and military officials were reportedly left stunned after China launched a rocket in space carrying a hypersonic glide vehicle which circled the globe before before speeding towards its target.

The nuke-capable missile missed its target by about two-dozen miles when it was secretly launched in August, intelligence sources told the Financial Times.
But the chilling test has alarmed US officials and shows how China has made astonishing progress on the development of its hypersonic weapons, sources said.
A hypersonic missile travels five times faster than the speed of sound and can reach distances of up to 1,500 miles, with Russia using the technology to build cutting-edge missiles in recent years.
Asian superpowers have been scrambling to build the powerful weapons in a terrifying arms race.
An Asian national security official and a Chinese security expert close to the People's Liberation Army said the weapon in China was being developed by the country's Academy of Aerospace Aerodynamics.
A number of rocket launches have been publicly announced by the China Academy of Launch Vehicle Technology - but the hypersonic missile test in August was reportedly kept secret.

Is anyone surprised?
MAD worked when the US had the upper hand. Times have changed dramatically. The Chinese century is at hand.
That's because people in the US have become increasingly scientifically illiterate.
I think a lot had to do with the nuclear treaties we made with Russia. China was never a party to them, While we scaled back, China was free to advance.
We only had to scale back the number of nukes. But we still could have advanced the technology.
When did China become so technologically advanced?
There's no single point. They continuously progressed in science and technology while we continuously slowed or even regressed. China does not seem generally hostile towards science like many in the US are.
When they successfully spied on Russia.
Russia has successfully launched their hypersonics from Frigates, submarines and trucks.
They are working on launching them from fighter jets and larger jets.

The current hypersonics are limited to about 600 miles in range due to the limited fuel supply.
Back to your article.
Fravel is wrong when he describes the missiles as maneuverable.
Anything moving 9,000 feet per second is essentially a bullet on a trajectory.
The American hypersonic missile programs began in 2004.
the final test launch in 2013 reached Mach 5.1 and travelled 230 miles in 6 minutes.

Withdrawal from the previous treaties with Russia has allowed the US Army to extend the range
of its PrSMs beyond the old 499km limits.
The Army and Navy are working together on Mach 9 ICBMs. We have prototypes.
We aren't behind the Chinese, maybe alarmed, but not surprised.
MAD is still what keeps the world alive.
It didn't fly off the edge?
As of January 2021 the US has 5550 nuclear warheads China has 350...
We have the numbers but it seems China has the more advanced delivery systems.
Russia has the most nuclear warheads, 6255.
Better technology can overcome superior numbers.
Morning.. and China got all bent out of shape and chucked a wobbly because we are getting nuclear powered subs..
We will have to withdraw our Ambassador over this one and it is certainly not in China's best interests..as they keep telling us.
But China needs to keep their home fires burning first... Russia and Mongolia can't keep up the supply of coal at the moment and appears to be a power shortage and black outs..Our coal which China banned is now going to India and other markets...so could be a very long and cold winter in China...
The same goofy paper also has a hysterical article that China's 4 boomers can threaten our West Coast.
Duh, The USA has 14 plus 55 attack submarines and cruise missile subs in active status.
Most of China is under that nuclear umbrella.
If that little dicktator starts any shit with us, he will never be that unhappy again.
Most dicktators need us to be the foil in order to stay in power and luxury.

great article Hal & Lux !!
The fear mongering on NT has achieved absolute irrationality.
I think the only real difference was that the Chinese wasted a Long March rocket which cost $70Million.
Big deal. It went around the world before releasing its payload, missing the target and spreading more
uncontrolled space debris across China.
It's probably a one off, proved it can be done, but they are unlikely to waste another Long March on it.
Seems to be more fear mongering than anything else.. All the normal powers (including the US) have been developing this technology for decades, even civilian companies are making designs for use in the commercial travel industry
