Texas National Guard soldier still missing after saving drowning migrant women at US-Mexico border

Authorities have released the name of a Texas National Guard member who remains missing after going into the river along the U.S.-Mexico border to help two migrant women who appeared to be drowning.
The Texas Military Department on Sunday identified the missing Guard member as Specialist Bishop E. Evans, from Arlington. The 22-year-old Evans went missing on Friday as he jumped into the Rio Grande near Eagle Pass along the U.S.-Mexico border.
"Apparently one of the females of that group started to go down. Looked like she was drowning. So one of the National Guardsman jumped in the river for the rescue," said Maverick County Sheriff Tom Schmerber.
The Texas Military Department says in a statement that Evans is assigned to A Battery, 4-133 Field Artillery Regiment in New Braunfels.
Dive teams had stopped their operations Saturday evening due to the river's strong current. Three airboats from the Texas Department of Public Safety helped with the search on Sunday.
Sunday, Texas Governor Greg Abbott tweeted a photo of Evans and issued a short statement.
"Texas National Guard Specialist Bishop Evans is a hero who risked his life in service to Texas & America. Law enforcement & rescue teams continue a relentless search for him. Join us in prayer for a successful recovery."
Evans, a field artilleryman, joined the Texas Army National Guard in May 2019. He returned in the fall of 2020 from mobilization to Operation Spartan Shield in Kuwait.
During this mobilization, his dedication, talents, and tactical prowess led his leadership to regularly assign him to operations in Iraq in support of Special Operations Forces for short periods of time, while then rotating back into Kuwait, officials said.

I haven't seen anything about what happened to them. Hopefully arrested for drug smuggling.
Other reports that I've seen on this identified the people SPC Evans tried to save were drug smugglers.

The two drug smugglers he saved; the cartel that used them as mules; and POS in the White House and his backers that have caused the border crisis are what is worst about this country.

And of course his fellow right wingers are jumping to his defense, for a statement that has no defense. That guardsman saw a human being in danger and unselfishly tried to help, without 1st asking their nationality, immigration status, or political affiliation.

What you call a political statement is the Root Cause of this whole situation. But since this administration failed to secure the border this is all on the Biden Administration.
And that is a lie, unless you are claiming there was no illegal immigration issue during every other administration as well.

You got it backwards. Trump exacerbated the problem by building up a stoppage at the border. without dealing with the issue. Well it finally overflowed, and what you see is the result of Trump shutting down the border to LEGAL asylum seekers, and pretending it didn't exist. His usual go to.
Exactly what you posted is how he dealt with the issue of illegal immigration. He stopped most of them from coming in by keeping them on their side of the border.

Never claimed it wasn't happening under other administrations. But THIS administration stopped actions that were in place to secure the border. Or did you forget that?

Only 1 made actual progress on it. Then this administration took over and ended it and about to end Title 42 that reinforced securing the border.
