Court backs convictions of 3 men who killed teacher after breaking into wrong apartment
The killing of Jonelle Melton was a case of a mistaken apartment. The three men were looking for her neighbor, and the thousands of dollars of cash they believed he kept in his freezer.
Nearly a decade after Red Bank middle school social studies teacher Jonelle Melton was brutally murdered in her own home, her killers were found guilty of all charges in her death Tuesday by a Monmouth County jury after a lengthy trial.
For years, Melton’s 2009 killing went unsolved.
But in 2015, Monmouth County Prosecutor Christopher Gramiccioni said Melton, 33, was gunned down by three men who were trying to burglarize a specific apartment at Brighton Arms in Neptune City. They broke into Melton’s apartment by mistake, bound her and shot her in the head when they realized she was not their intended target
Investigators identified Ebenezer Byrd, 30, Gregory Jean-Baptiste, 39 and Jerry J. Spraulding, 41, as her killers. A fourth man, James Fair, 30, pleaded guilty in 2017 to conspiring to commit burglary, but insisted he had nothing to do with the killing.
Fair is serving an 82-year prison term for his role, and 79 other crimes he was convicted of as a part of “ Operation Dead End, ” an investigation targeting gang members in Monmouth County

Is anyone really safe from being shot and killed in America?
I assume Fair must have snitched on the others. I wonder what his deal was, because I think he will have to get the benefit of the Witness Protection Act if he ever gets released, but that doesn't mean that prisoners don't get killed in prison anyway.
If Fair did snitch in order to get a reduced sentence from prosecutors he and his attorneys were terrible deal negotiators, he got 82 years.
Well, maybe he can get paroled when he's 93.
Just yet another case of "WAS" (murder by "Wrong Apt Syndrome").
Just yet another case of "WAS" (murder by "Wrong Apt Syndrome").
IIRC, lately there also seems to have been an increasing number of murders by "WDS" as well as "WHS"!
"WDS" = Wrong Driveway Syndrome
"WHS" = Wrong Home Syndrome".
(There's a lot of confused people out there...!!! )
I know you're into investments. Maybe besides investing in wire hanger manufacturers you should be investing in body armour manufacturers and retailers.
