Fall is right around the corner, and here at Leelanau Pines, we are ready for it! From cooler temperatures to cozy sweaters, the fall season has a little something for everyone. But how can we forget the breathtaking fall foliage that will surround our campground in Northern Michigan?! We've gathered everything you need to know about fall camping this season—including when the colors will be at their peak, recommendations on the best spots to view the foliage, and fall activities & events you won't want to miss at our campground.

Michigan Fall Foliage Prediction Map

In Northern Michigan, particularly around Cedar, moderate to peak fall colors are expected from October 7-26, 2024. This is an ideal time to experience the beauty of autumn in the Leelanau Peninsula, and with our campground closing for the season on October 19, it's the perfect opportunity to book a final camping trip before winter sets in.

The first few weeks of October are particularly magical in this region, with the landscape transforming into a vibrant tapestry of reds, oranges, and yellows. For a more detailed view of the Michigan fall foliage map, you can check out predictions on the Almanac or American Forests websites.

During this period, we still have a variety of luxury cabin rentals and RV campsites available. If you're looking for a cozy getaway, our White Pine Cabin is the perfect choice. It features a full bathroom, kitchen, a porch, and accommodations that sleep up to 8 people (including two private bedrooms!). It's the ideal spot to enjoy the crisp fall air and stunning foliage.

For our RV campers, our Premium Back-In RV Sites offer full hook-ups, a picnic table, fire ring, and charcoal grill — everything you need for a comfortable and memorable fall camping experience. Don't wait too long to book your site, our spots tend to fill up quickly as the season winds down!

Nearby Areas for the Best Fall Foliage

While our campground provides stunning views of the fall foliage, the surrounding areas of Northern Michigan offer even more opportunities to experience the beauty of autumn. Here are a few places we recommend for scenic views of the fall colors:

Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore
Just a short drive from Leelanau Pines, Sleeping Bear Dunes offers some of the most breathtaking views in the state. The towering dunes provide a panoramic view of Lake Michigan, framed by the vibrant colors of autumn. It's a must-see spot for any fall foliage enthusiast.

Pierce Stocking Scenic Drive
This 7.4-mile loop within Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore offers a series of overlooks that showcase the area's natural beauty. The Pierce Stocking Scenic Drive is particularly stunning in the fall, with the forest ablaze in seasonal colors. Be sure to stop at the Lake Michigan Overlook for a view that's second to none.

Leelanau State Park
Located at the tip of the Leelanau Peninsula, Leelanau State Park offers hiking trails that wind through dense forests and open fields, all of which are bursting with fall colors. The view of the Grand Traverse Bay from the park is especially stunning in autumn.

There's a lot to look forward to this fall camping season, and we hope we've supplied everything you need to know about the Northern Michigan fall foliage timeline so you can better prepare for this autumn. If you haven't booked your fall getaway yet, you can do so online or give us a call at (231) 228-5742.

We can't wait to see you this fall!

Fall colors were especially good this year.     Worth a trip to northern Michigan to experience them.      It can be quite hit and miss but this year was awesome if you hit it right.
