The Department of Government Efficiency
“I look forward to Elon and Vivek making changes to the Federal Bureaucracy with an eye on efficiency and, at the same time, making life better for all Americans,” Trump wrote. “Importantly, we will drive out the massive waste and fraud which exists throughout our annual $6.5 Trillion Dollars of Government Spending.”

Link to quote: Donald Trump Taps Elon Musk And Vivek Ramaswamy To Lead “Department Of Government Efficiency”

It is not yet clear if the President-elect will actually create a department to make government more efficient or simply assigning a commission to find waste and hopefully bias within the federal government. There is no question that there is a considerable amount of government waste. Whatever task that Trump assigns to Musk and Ramaswamy, he said that their work will conclude “no later than July 4, 2026,” which is the 250th anniversary of American Independence.

"Together, these two wonderful Americans will pave the way for my Administration to dismantle the Government Bureaucracy, slash excess regulations, cut wasteful expenditures, and restructure Federal Agencies - Essential to the 'Save America' Movement," Trump said in a statement Tuesday. Trump added, in Trumpian terms: The office would "provide advice and guidance from outside of Government and will partner with the White House and Office of Management & Budget to drive large scale structural reform and create an entrepreneurial approach to Government never seen before."

I'm sure that much can be done to reduce the size of government. Getting rid of all those IRS hires that Biden made would be a starting point. On the other hand, there is the thing that Paul Ryan was so right about - the growth of entitlements, which consumes about half the budget, while the nation's defense is down to about 13%. At least Trump is making an effort. Let us hope that Musk & Ramaswamy can cut, restructure and dismantle large parts of the federal government.

In the news:

A CIA official has been charged with leaking highly classified documents about Israel’s potential plan to strike back against Iran over a missile attack.

Israeli troops have returned to northern Gaza over the past year, in order to prevent Hamas from regrouping there.

At last year’s climate summit, countries promised to move away from coal, oil and natural gas. Research shows they (China in particular) are burning more coal than ever. If you want to do something about climate change, start with convincing China to stop polluting.

In a win for the oil industry, a Dutch court overturned a major ruling that had required Shell to reduce carbon emissions by 45 percent by 2030.

Jack Teixeira, a 22-year-old Air National Guardsman who shared classified government records online, was sentenced to 15 years in prison.

Masked men waving Nazi flags outside a theater performance of “The Diary of Anne Frank” in Michigan, CNN reports. Local officials never bothered to unmask them or find out exactly who they were.

Trump chose Pete Hegseth to be defense secretary. Hegseth is a veteran who seeks to restore the capability & image of the US military.

John Ratcliffe is expected to lead the C.I.A. He is a former Texas congressman who was director of national intelligence during Trump’s first term and will likely clean out the woke leadership at the agency.

Mike Huckabee is the nominee to be the US Ambassador to Isreal. Huckabee, a former Republican governor of Arkansas who twice ran for president, has been a vocal supporter of Israel.

Trump has selected two Republican House members to join his administration, narrowing what is likely to be a slim majority there.

The partisan judge overseeing President-elect Donald Trump's trial agreed to grant a stay on all deadlines associated with the felony conviction proceedings against Trump in the final months before he takes office, a closely watched decision that keeps Trump from launching an appeal to the ludicrous case and keeps the issue hanging over the President-elect a bit longer.

President Biden will host Trump at the White House today.

Good morning.

conspiracy-obstruct-official-proceeding-16604653.jpg?w=1024

Special counsel Jack Smith reportedly plans to retire before President-elect Donald Trump takes office in January, denying the incoming president a chance to fire him. He was illegally given the job and now he runs scared.

Like the banana, he came in green, turned yellow and died rotten.

That is a very interesting department.

It was created under Carter, and I do recall, though I doubt I'd ever find it, one of the proponents blurting out we need it to change the culture.

With that in mind, it is noteworthy how far American education has declined since its creation.

There already has been an assessment:

Are American college students today learning more than those living in the 1970’s? Colleges, in the knowledge business, know remarkably little about how much their students learn. The sparse intertemporal evidence, however, suggests that learning has probably
declined  somewhat —somewhat dated information suggests literacy among college students has fallen, fact-based student knowledge of American civic institutions is appallingly low, etc. Labor Department data shows students study embarrassingly little (and sharply less than in the era before the Education Department), and the rise in grade inflation has continued strongly on the Department’’s watch. How can learning increase with students spending less time studying but getting ever higher grades? Moreover, the Department does not  even try  very hard  to measure learning for college students: the last major literacy assessment of college students that I know about occurred 17 years ago.

Interestingly, although Democrats overwhelmingly controlled Congress and Jimmy Carter was president, they were fiercely divided on whether to create the Education Department. It cleared the House Education Committee on a 20 to 19 vote with seven Democrats joining Republicans in opposing it. Opponents included such liberal icons as Senator Daniel Patrick Moynihan, the  New York Times, Washington Post  and even the American Federation of Teachers. Carter had promised the larger teachers union, the National Education Association, he would get the department created and he delivered.

The worst fears of both conservatives and staunch civil libertarians came in 2011 with the “dear colleague” letter that had zero constitutional basis in law decreeing that colleges must adopt standards in sexual assault cases totally inconsistent with American traditions of criminal justice — the right to confront accusers, be represented by legal counsel, etc. It mandated a very low standard of proof completely unacceptable in criminal proceedings in America. This has spurred a mountain of litigation and contention.

In the past few years under Secretary Betsy DeVos (one of several secretaries, beginning with Bill Bennett, that I actually got to know and admire), the Department has done some positive things. It recently issued, after reviewing 124,000 (!!!) comments, new regulations reversing the worst of the damage created by the dear colleague letter.

Moreover, the Department has started doing the one task it really makes sense for it to do: providing Americans useful information about colleges and universities. The College Scorecard, started in the Obama years, now provides potential students with useful information about colleges, including earnings data by major. It is still highly imperfect, but an “F” job of providing consumer information now rises to a “C” grade from me —progress, but a good way to go. Still, if I were a member of Congress and voting on a bill to eliminate the Department of Education, I would vote “yes” based on its generally abysmal contribution to higher education.

After 40 Bad Years, The Department Of Education Redeems Itself A Bit

how do you believe claims from one side, without hearing claims from the other...

when there is total bias rampant, All sides need to be considered, then with context, one can make a more knowledgeable conclusion as to what ACTUALLY happened.

Two toddler brothers are playing in the other room, as the mother is cooking in the kitchen. Suddenly she hears a loud Smack, and rushes in to see the one child face down balling, with the other ass hauling, to get away from moms' hand, while in his hand a large slingshot style rubber band...

So in your case, and 'mind', you would only find, what the child who was running away had to say, because the child balling, was from the milkman who had cum calling, and you did not wish to keep abreast,of one not from the true nest, as was he you see, and knowing the full story, no matter how gory, would then incriminate your actual by marriage son, as opposed to the love child of the fling that in the oven flung an out of wedlock bun.

No need to actual listen to or read something you knew might bring to light, the actual true origin of this undisputed, not 'right', fight between TWO SIDES, because it would make 'your' preferred side look very bad, and not just because he had a black daddy, and was your golf caddie!

Just because you don't wish to know the actual truth, does not change the actual truth, but keep your head buried in the sand under that rock, and you'll continue to sound so smart about something you know not even half the story about, because you cannot handle the truth about what is SO DAMN OBVIOUS, that you were TOLD to not observe the other sides argument...

Yes, that makes total sense to come to the conclusion that one child was guilty and wrong, while you prefer his dance and a song, over the other not heard from, just because of where he did come

from the other side of the aisle,   cause in Egypt and Egypt   De Nile and a view, to no where and of nothing on the other side banked, but boy that one kid sure could sing a version,

but

you don't find any truth, from such a perversion, cause of how  you  have tanked

Right off the bat, your hypothesis is all wrong.

A congressional committee is not supposed to represent "one side." It is supposed to be made up of members from both sides of the aisle. The Jan 6th Committee was completely comprised of Trump hating members, who were all selected by Nancy Pelosi.

They also used special producers to create a prime-time drama, they cherry picked parts of taped interviews of those who were required to give testimony and, in the end, when Republicans were about to take over congress, they destroyed evidence that was supposed to be preserved.

I'm sure a few of our far-left members watched every moment like the three peasant children at Fatima, but it was nothing more than confirmation bias as far as I was concerned.

Remember underneath this this talk about shrinking the goverment are people's jobs. For example - Kenedy said he's fire 600 health workers. This will have repercussion on the economy. Add that to the promised tax cuts and tarrifs and it has an exponential effect. I smell a recession before the mid-terms.

Al Gore didn't care.  Neither did Bill Clinton.  Clinton's 'Reinventing Government' initiative removed and eliminated 250,000 Federal jobs.  Democrats expressing concerns about the Federal workforce and impacts on the economy are beyond phony.  Clinton's pursuit of government efficiency only served Democrats' political interests.  Don't kiss Clinton's ass and then bad mouth Trump for doing exactly the same thing.

It looks like Musk and Ramaswamy will be removing the Resistance from government.  That's the only thing Democrats care about.  Democrats aren't happy until no one is happy.  Democrats don't care about government efficiency, the economy, or actually accomplishing anything.  The only thing Democrats care about is using the taxpayers to buy votes and keeping their political jobs.
