Canada’s leader OUTSMARTS Trump in surprise move

Canada has satisfied Trump's demands by implementing a plan that they had in place in December of last year.

Yes, making a big theatrical deal and harming relationships was pointless.

Trump imposes tariffs and ruffles world feathers to get what was essentially going to happen anyway.

Trump doesn't wait for "going to happen anyway". It takes longer than he wants so, he gives them a little push. And it works. And since it was "going to happen", why not get it out of the way? So in December, they supposedly instituted a plan. Have you seen any progress reports to that end?

Oh just perfect Jim.   So instead of talking with them privately to give them a little push, Trump publicly threatens them with an across-the-board 25% tariff if they do not submit to his demands.   On top of that he trolls them with this 51st state crap.   This guy is an obnoxious 5th grader given the powers of a king.

Instead of treating a long-standing trade partner with respect and working with them in a constructive manner, Trump turns the USA into a bully and damages our long-term relationship.   And not only with Canada, with the rest of the world.

A public, outrageous threat is not a 'little push'.

When will you stop trying to defend this tyrant?

Who said anything about changing minds of Trump supporters?

My point is that your defense of Trump is absurd.  You try to downplay Trump's outrageous tariffs as merely 'a little push'.   That is beyond ridiculous at its face.

My posts do not assume that any Trump supporter can be reasoned with.   My posts offer criticism of irrational positions.

Looks like you have no defense for your position.

What the hell else do you attribute your daily rantings and bandwidth consumption to?

My posts offer criticism of irrational positions.

And those "irrational positions" and your continual commentary, are also opinions of their respective members the majority of which fall on deaf ears in your case..

Essentially, you have no rebuttal.

Let me make the super clear.   I have no expectation that anything anyone says will change the position of Trump supporters.   Thus not only do I not care that you stubbornly defend Trump no matter what, but I fully expect it.   I would be genuinely surprised if I saw a Trump supporter even admit that Trump has done something wrong.

So you can whine about Trump supporters not caring what I write until you are blue in the face.   Irrelevant.   I will continue to criticize Trump where appropriate.   I will also praise him when appropriate (e.g. I do support his AI initiative as this point and I am in full agreement in principle of the USA Sovereign Wealth Fund).

So if you have something of substance to offer regarding the topics we discuss, then make your case.   This endless whining about me is pointless and just illustrates that you have no real argument to offer.

I don't think you get it. What does bullying get anybody in the long run? Very few allies, that's what. And then one day a bigger bully comes along

What is wrong with being respectful and polite when dealing with your neighbors? I bet you don't bully your neighbors

WHEN DID MANNERS BECOME PASSE???????????????????

One step at a time......

Trump has done a lot of shit wrong. Comes with the territory. show me someone who doesn't fuck up and I'll show you someone who is doing nothing!

Watch it......  that may be construed as support.

Already done. Perhaps you missed some of my commentary.

This endless whining about me is pointless and just illustrates that you have no real argument to offer.

It's not about you, contrary to your belief, but rather your opinions............that you expect everyone else to have. No other explanation can be gleaned.

2015 and what do manners have to do with it? It isn't a tea party with crumpets by any means. And I am not so sure that others won't fall in line with this precedent.

Don't try to unless provoked. I, unfortunately, am the president of our HOA and sometimes, you have to rattle cages. No one cares for it but there are times it is necessary to get them to abide by the rules of the hood.

If you want a member to do something, do you make a public announcement threatening that member or do you have a private chat with them?

Personally, both. However, in a community of 133 homes, neighbors report violations to the board all the time due to their property values being affected, so it isn't like no one else knows.

Right off the bat, Jim?

Let's say that a member has overgrown weeds on their property.   You want the member to clean this up.   As your first act, do you publicly threaten the member with a fine unless he cleans up his lawn or do you privately contact the member and respectfully ask them to take care of this problem?

If you publicly humiliate members rather than first engage them privately then you should be fired as president of the HOA.    So I truly doubt that you act as Trump has done.

So, we have gone from Trump's tariffs will destroy everything to there was no concession.

Here is the FACT:

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said Canada would commit more resources to battling the spread of fentanyl.

It wasn't a trade war with Canada, was it? No, it was part of the war on drugs and Canada has finally acted like an ally.

The fact is that tariffs do indeed raise prices.    The fact is that Trump's obnoxious, arrogant, public threat of an outrageous across-the-board 25% tariff was beyond overkill.    The fact is that most rational leaders would privately engage their closest trade partners and attempt to negotiate.   Especially when, as we can see, it would not take much for Trump to get what he wanted since Canada was already moving in that direction.

see @1.1.1

Trump is irresponsible and should never have the power of the presidency.   You helped vote in a loose-cannon tyrant who within two weeks has already convinced the planet that the USA is not to be trusted and that dependence on the USA is unwise.   Well done Trump supporters.

The world will deal with Trump in ways his sycophants don't yet understand. The US was once a world leader - now it's a punchline of a sad joke. There are estimates of $640B or more in import costs from Trump policies that will be passed on to the American consumer. Grocery prices are on the rise again too. Keep making excuses for his dumbassery MAGA sycophants. You're not fooling anyone but yourselves.

Do those who continue to defend Trump no matter what actually understand what is going on?   I would like to think so and blame this on blind partisanship, but it is (honestly) hard to tell.

I would think it obvious that tariffs will raise domestic prices.   That public threats of outrageous tariffs should not precede private, civil, constructive negotiations with our closest trade partners.   That relationships are harmed by lack of trust ... and by animosity pointless engendered by a tyrant.

We are living in strange times and Trump supporters are a true enigma.

No. Those that continue to defend Trump no matter what, will continue to blame Obama & Biden for things that happen tomorrow. They are stuck on stupid and until it's bad enough for the propaganda bubbles to turn on Trump they will continue their screeching about transgender liberal marxist socialists blah, blah, blah...

My co-worker was just trying to tell me how her YouTube Trump propaganda videos were more credible than 'mainstream news'.

That relationships are harmed by lack of trust...

After the elections the UK created a special 'mini cabinet' just to work on ways they might deal with whatever shit Trump throws at the wall. Panama, a natural choke point for South America immigration and once a good American ally has threatened to just let immigrants through. Onterio has canceled a $68M contract with Musk's Starlink. Markets have dipped this morning on news that China will retaliate in a trade war. I'm sure if I dug past these surface reports I'd find a lot more.

Yet again, this just looks like a cult.   I just do not see the attraction to Trump.   What causes people to believe this guy?   To think that he has some sort of super power?    To ignore the endless negatives in demeanor, morality, ethics, and actions?

This level of irrationality is indeed cultish.   I never would have believed this possible in the USA.

I'm certain it's a culture war thing. I could go back before Obergefell v. Hodges and map out the rise of right wing populism. In response to Trump we have a rise of left wing populism that's just as stupid. Eventually that pendulum will slow to the median and moderates will once again move the country along, but until then we're in for a bumpy ride.

It does when you does when you understand the psychology behind it. There isn't any logic behind it other than the blind hatred of anything deemed 'liberal' and their loss of societal superiority.

Everything from Hegseth to trying to remove Jus Soli to blanket buy-outs to firing inspector generals to these idiotic tariff threats ...

Everything Trump is doing now is directly out of The Heritage Foundation's Project 2025.
