Star Trek: Picard – A Look At The Season 2 Premiere
I know there's a crisis going on in the world right now, and this may seem trivial in comparison, but the new season of Picard is set to premiere on Thursday and I'm going to create posts for each new episode again, like I did for season 1.
The new season will run for 10 episodes from March 3rd through May 5th, ending on the same day that Star Trek: Strange New Worlds premieres. I'm really looking forward to that one, and I'll be making posts for it as well when the time comes.
Paramount released a first look video for season 2 today.
In it we learn that Picard has returned to his chateau in France, where we get to see Laris again. Not sure if Zhaban is there or not. Picard is revealed to be the chancellor of Starfleet Academy now, where Raffi is teaching and Elnor is enrolled as a cadet – the first full Romulan to ever attend.
Seven has returned to the Fenris Rangers and is now the captain of La Sirena (the ship from season 1). There's something going on between her and Raffi, but they're not actually together...or something. Agnes Jurati and Soji are travelling around trying to rehabilitate synthetics in people's minds, and Rios is back in Starfleet as...dun dun dun...the captain of the Stargazer (a new version, of course).
There's no mention of Q, but the anomaly that Rios is sent to investigate might have something to do with him. I'm wondering if it might be another rip in the universe like in the TNG finale All Good Things.
As far as I know, all surviving characters from season 1 return except for Narek.
Wikipedia has a page for the new season. Here's the introduction from it:
The second season of the American television series Star Trek: Picard features the character Jean-Luc Picard as he and his companions are trapped in the 21st century when reality is broken by Q as part of the ultimate trial for Picard. They must race against time to save the future of the galaxy. The season is being produced by CBS Studios in association with Secret Hideout and Roddenberry Entertainment, with Akiva Goldsman and Terry Matalas serving as showrunners.
Patrick Stewart stars as Picard, reprising his role from the series Star Trek: The Next Generation as well as other Star Trek media. Alison Pill, Isa Briones, Evan Evagora, Michelle Hurd, Santiago Cabrera, Jeri Ryan, Orla Brady, and Brent Spiner also star. A second season was in development for months before being officially announced in January 2020, with Matalas joining ahead of the planned departure of first season showrunner Michael Chabon, who remained as a writer. The time travel story was conceived by Matalas and connects to Picard's struggles with his own history. Delayed from a planned June 2020 production start by the COVID-19 pandemic, filming began in California in February 2021 and lasted until September, shooting back-to-back with the third season. The second season features special guest stars reprising their roles from The Next Generation, including John de Lancie as Q.
It looks pretty good to me. Hopefully it'll be a nice distraction from the shitty world we're living in at the moment.
Don't miss episode 1 on Thursday. The discussion article for it should be up sometime that morning.
Go ahead and join the Star Trek group, too.
The rest of this thread was removed for off topic.
Phittt!... and here I thought the topic was off world.
OMG, I can't wait!!!
Looking forward to it!
We did binge season one not long ago so we are eagerly awaiting season 2.
